    snacks or no snacks

    i think most strict programs say no Snacks, but it's my body and i do what i want--as long as it's food that won't hurt my band. I do, however, notice i lose less when i snack (i'm in a snack mode the last week or two). i bought a few different kinds of 100 cal. packs and i will never...do that again (ok well i'll try not too, hehe). See, i eat them because i like the taste of them..not because i'm hungry. i stayed the same last week because i had 2 snacks a day...these 100 cal things..ugh. i need to cut it out!! so my answer is use your judgement. you know what is right and wrong..and what is overeating and what is not. ya know? some weeks you may need it...others you may not.

  3. i made black bean soup in my slow cooker yesterday and it was yummy. just soaked the beans overnight, threw in 1 chopped jalapeno pepper, 3 cans ff/low sod. chicken broth, a dash of the following: hot sauce, cayenne pepper, cumin, s&p. Cooked on low for 8 hours and blended--topped with a little sour cream/chz/a few croutons. yum. b: venti iced chai tea latte l: (will be) sm. cream of broc soup with bacon crumbles and a few croutons lol s: (if i have one) chz/crackers pack, 100cal d: black bean soup. can't wait.
  4. yesterday: b: leftover black eyed pea cake l: chicken with a few bites of potato (cooked in red sauce) d: cheese and crackers (you know those little packs you can buy--100cals) and a half of a black eyed pea cake today: b: grande iced chai tea latte, chz/cracker pack l: (will be) small cream of broc. soup. i'll probably add some croutons and cheese d: (will be) slow cooker black bean soup (it's cooking now). very low cal.
  5. yesterday: called out of work sick..got a zpack for my cold... b: cereal with skim l: i tried to eat a lean cusine pizza, but after a few bites i could tell it wouldn't be a good choice if i continued. i stopped and a little later had my new passion: kitchentablebakers.com cheese crisps (everything is my fav). i had 3 of them. no carbs:thumbup: d: sheperds pie.
  6. yesterday: b: none. an iced latte from dunkin donuts l: 2 potato pancakes with sour cream (they were small) s: **i have a new passion!! kitchentablebakers makes these cheese crisp things...no carbs, no fillers...just cheese that are crispy like crackers. yuum!! i had 2 of them. d: 1 black bean cake with sour cream

Hi All, i feel normal again--YAY! thanks for your comments. so i have to say i'm really impressed with my doc..he came in just for me..and was 5 minutes late and saying how sorry he was. i was like "no i'm just glad i didn't have to go to the hospital for an unfill." he took out my entire fill from this week (we tested it half way and i still couldn't swallow). Plus .3 was taken out from what i had before this week...i'm just happy i can eat again!!! lol. Tomorrow i'm making black bean cakes..today i did the soup thing. bring on the real food, hehe. Today: b: none l: after unfll--potato soup d: potato soup s: a little of some cheesecake i got from the cheesecake factory..hehe i deserve a treat!! i cut it up into tini pieces. *tons of water
  8. well i've had a bad experience yesterday and today. i think i'm too full..not so much so that anything comes up, but if i sip water or try to eat i get this extreme burning in my chest and throat. at one point i just starting crying. i didn't end up eating anything i posted yesterday...just two bites of a corn cake...and nothing yet today. SO i called my doc last night and he was nice enough to come in to the office today (they are closed) and i think he had surgery today as well--earlier. i'm going to get this week's fill--unfilled and boy am i happy i have a doc that cares enough to come in so i don't have to suffer until monday. i'll be happy to post-hopefully-soup later. wish me luck!
  9. thanks. yeah i really like beans and when made as "cakes" they taste fattening lol. really. i feel like i'm eating fast food and it keeps my head on straight. plus they reheat really well.
  10. My doc wants me around 900-1000 calories and i think that's crap lol. i told him straight out that i don't count..and when i start slowing down on my weight loss i'll start.   11. i posted "black eyed pea cakes" that i make every single week. Just do a search. Love them. I also make black bean cakes every week. The recipe is: Black Bean Cakes Lime Sour Cream: 1/2 cup reduced fat sour cream 2 teaspoons fresh lime juice 1 small fresh jalapeno pepper, minced salt to taste Bean Cakes: 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided 4 green onions, thinly sliced 6 cloves garlic, pressed 2 fresh jalapeno peppers, finely diced 1 tablespoon ground cumin 2 (14.5 ounce) cans black Beans, drained and rinsed salt and black pepper to taste 2 cups grated raw sweet potato (i microwaved these for a minute to ensure they were cooked) 1 egg, lightly beaten 1/2 cup plain dried bread crumbs (i used italian because it's what i had) To prepare lime sour cream, mix the sour cream, lime juice, 1 small minced jalapeno, and salt together in a small bowl. Cover, and refrigerate. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Cook green onions until softened, about 1 minute. Stir in garlic, 2 diced jalapenos, and cumin; cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Transfer contents of skillet to a large bowl. Stir in black beans, and mash with a fork. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix in sweet potatoes, egg, and bread crumbs. Divide into 8 balls, and flatten into patties. In the oven, set cooking rack about 4 inches from heat source. Set oven to broil. Lightly grease baking sheet with 1 tablespoon oil. Place bean patties on baking sheet, and broil 8 to 10 minutes. Turn cakes over, and broil until crispy, about 3 minutes more. Serve with lime sour cream. *I also added a little light cheddar cheese on top (and one time i added light mexican blend cheese). I'm a cheese freak so i liked it better this way.

    I cried lastnight...

    i felt the same way in the beginning. see the thing is--at least for me--food is still my comfort. when i'm celebrating i go out to eat. when i'm sad--i'll have a snack that evening. i still eat what i love--crab cakes, potatoes and soups (yes even cream based ones). i just do all this in small portions. so the difference is..when i have a crappy day and feel the urge to binge..as most of us have...i stop myself...i say "ok i can treat myself today one time" and i stick to it. a typical day for me (like today) is: breakfast: cereal (Just a half a cup) lunch: 1 small crab cake & 4 bites of potatoes (quite a bit of dipping sauce) dinner: potato soup with a few croutons See, i eat what i want...and i enjoy it too. After you get past the first 6-8 weeks--it will get easier. Just don't cheat...trust that this will work for you..and i promise you..when you lose some weight and people come up to you saying "damn girl" you will not want to binge. just take my word for it.     How many fat grams per day?

    i don't track it..then again i don't really track my calories either. i eat food with fat...i just make sure i stay in my portion size range so that i can still enjoy the things i love--reasonably. i just avoid bread (not crackers/crountons though) and pasta and rice. other than that i just try to eat as healthy as possible, but if i want a crab cake--i eat one. keeps me sane...but that's just me.
  15. today: FILL Day, yay lol b: grande chai tea latte. An hour later: cereal/skim l: leftover crab cake (smaller one) and a tablespoon of mashed potatoes (about) FILL @ 4:30pm d: soup

  17. Hi! i've been banded since April and i've experienced both: today i had to make myself stop (i ordered a small soup, but could have had more). Other days it's more than enough or too much. When i go out to eat (once a week at least) i just order whatever...and i eat until the first sign of being full. I doubt i eat more than 8oz/1cup... My issue is snacking..i'm always..ALWAYS tempted to snack. During the day i fight like hell (excuse my language) and drink water in its place...i do this so that every single night (almost) lol i can have a snack with my tv shows. So i guess my answer is...if i look like i could eat more than what i'm supposed to...i stop myself. I started letting myself have "treats" like today i had the deli put croutons on my soup...so even though i wanted more (and still do lol) the taste filled my "head craving." Good Luck!!
  18. i snack too. usually i have "head hunger" at night and like to have something sweet while i watch tv. yesterday: b: cereal/skim milk l: potato pancakes lol (oops) s: sf/ff choc. pudding that has peanut butter in it d: falafal (spelling?) with sour cream s: chai bella blood orange sherbert (about 2 scoops). YUM. Today: b: low carb slim fast with 1tblespn peanut butter l: split pea soup, 1 cup d: leftover falafal. might add some cheese this time with sour cream. s: probably some pudding if i get the urge to have something. i used skim plus milk in it so it has lots of protein.

    a snack i really like is the cook n serve sf choc. pudding..made with skim and while it's hot add peanut butter. i love it.
  21. I'm SO happy today because i've been working out this week and lost 3.8lbs!! YAY. feel like my hard work was worth it. today: b: venti skim chai tea latte l: soup--crab/corn chowder (cream in it..but i'll get a small) and some oyster crackers d: going out. likely to get fish and a side of potatoes (which are not low cal). I always splurge a little on my friday night dinners :-)
  22. I got this from Rachael Ray and it was really good. Very moist and easy to eat. food network doesn't have the recipe posted so i had to wing it based on what i saw on the show... Time: 15 minutes 1lb ground chicken (lean) shredded carrots, big handful celery, finely chopped (handful) 1 onion, finely chopped 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped blue cheese crumbles, a sprinkle buns (i didn't eat it on a bun, but my husband did) olive oil, 2 tablespoons or so s & p to taste tomato paste, 2 squirts from the tube (or if from a can 2 tablespoons) hot sauce, 1/3 cup whistershire sauce, 1 tablespoon 8 oz tomato sauce brown sugar, 2 tablespoon chicken stock, 3 tablespoons or so heat pan with olive oil and brown chicken. once brown add onions and garlic. Once tender (about 3 minutes) add celery and carrots. season with s & p. meanwhile, combine last 5 ingredients in a bowl and stir until mixed. when celery and carrots are tender add sauce and stir. add tomato paste and stir. let cook for about 5 minutes or so. i ate this with just some blue cheese on top, but if using buns build the sandwhiches and top with cheese.
