Okay so I have to share... I'm on full liquids/soft foods and I have enjoyed some refired bean awesomeness, some well blended lentil Soup and oodles of cottage cheese BUT I came aross this idea from The World According to Eggface of High Protein ICE CREAM. Okay... I haven't really had much ice cream over the last 14 years because after my original RNY in 2002 I became very intolerant. Well I've found a couple of lactose free milks I can finally manage so I wanted to give this a shot. My incredible wife dug out her 1990's ice cream maker and went out just for rock salt while I tossed together a PB2/Butterscotch vanilla mix. Well I just had about 1/3c and #1 I'm feeling pretty darned full & #2 it tasted freaking amazing. My recipe ended up being 13g Protein, 4g sugar, 10g total carbs, 3g fat & 115 calories so about the same as 1/2c of cottage cheese!
We almost killed the ice cream maker so I think I have a date with Amazon to order a newer/stronger one!!

I'm stuffed!!!! How is this possible. Here i am sitting with my two year old having refried Beans and salsa and I am full as a tick. I hsd maybe three bites! My plate of beans is screaming EAT ME!!! And tummy says no. Tummy wins!!!!!
This feels almost magical.

I just had my revision the ninth and started my period today. It's 9 days early but it will be interesting to track it for a bit.
-
If you were asking me sgc324 -Right now I'm still on soft foods and it takes me about 20 minutes to get down between 1/3-1/2 cup of mushPlease forgive me for asking but are you now able to eat fast? That's always a big problem for me
Before the revision I was never really able to eat fast. If i tried I'd get the "idiot pain" (that's what i call it) which is a very tight feeling in my chest almost always followed by vomiting.
...and please fell free to ask anything at all I'm happy to share. ????

The Water is sooooo hard at first for all WLS surgeries for sure. You might consider getting some Isopure Protein Water (usually stocked in a cooler at GNC) it's a zero carb crazy high Protein clear water that I absolutely swear by. I figured if all I could do is tiny sips I may as well get in some kind of protein too . Oh and a 20oz bottle has 40g protein do even if it takes a couple days to get through that's ok. I wish they had stuff like this when I had my original RNY in 2002!!
Ask your medical team if it's okay if course. Good luck and happy trails!

I remember taking a PFT back in 2001 before my original surgery. My surgeon at the time said it was to make sure I could handle the anesthesia without being intubated because intubation makes things more complicated.
The revision I just had didn't require much pre-op tests just the barium swallow, endoscopy, CBC work up & an EKG.
Best of luck on your journey it's so worth it and it works if you work it

Protein water!!! GNC carries cold bottles of Isopure in several flavors and there's 40g of protein in a 29oz bottle. Has an odd aftertaste but my pouch handles it better. Good luck!I can't tolerate Protein Shake it's so heavy feeling nauseous, when eating Protein shake, now the Water is good but anybody nows other way to substitute protein shake in a early stage of the sleeve. I'm 3 days post op!

Dr Snow & Dr Van Wagner no longer share a practice as of Feb 1st. I will call Dr Van Wagner's office though and see if their nutritionist takes outside patients. Thanks so much!!!Hey MxKitty! I think Dr. Snow is a partner with my Doctor, Dr. Van Wagner. His office is right across from St. Anthony's in South County, and they do have a dietician on staff. I know it's not right by TGS, but it's closer than Festus! Hope that helps!

Ughh me too drives me nuts!

Hey St. Louis peeps - had my follow up visit today with Dr. Snow and he's really happy with my healing/progress. I asked if I should be seeing a bariatric nutritionist and he said absolutely and that he was fine with me finding someone closer to me (he's in Festus) so with all that being said do any of you have a suggestion for a bariatric nutritionist in our area?
Thanks!

Good morning everyone!
@ My scale has moved a bit each day up to 1/2 a pound loss until today when it said I was 2 pounds down from yesterday - perfect day for my followup visit

On 2/9/16 I had a revision/repair of my RNY originally performed in March 2002. Much like janice above, my original surgery had no real follow up care but this time i do! I've got my first follow up appointment tomorrow & in down 16.6 pounds - feel free to ask my anything

I had my Roux-en-y in March 2002 and I'd do it all over again (even with my current repair surgery 2/9/16). I did lose some hair but it grew back and I wasn't perfect with my Vitamins but I have no bone/teeth issues. My PCP ran my blood work twice annually for all my vitamin levels and occasionally prescribed very large once a month doses of Vitamin D but that's it. Best of luck with your surgery!I would like to hear some feedback from any RNY-ers who are 10+ years post-op. Can you tell me how you are feeling, specifically with regards to Malabsorption given the Vitamin regiment? Despite taking all the required supplements have you experienced any loss of teeth? Bone density issues? Other issues? I am planning on an RNY in the next two months, and would like a realistic picture of long term experiences one may have, even with adhering to the Vitamin regiment. I get that transfusions may be required based on low absorption of Iron, which I hear is common. I am curious to know though over time, what does the overall big picture look like /feel like and do you regret the decision you have made to have this surgery in the first place due to this?
Thank you in advance for your time!

I'm also in St. Louis in the Tower Grove/Bevo south city area I didn't have the sleeve though... instead I had a Roux-en-Y revision for a stoma (hole leading out of my pouch) repair via Endoscopic soft tissue re-approximation by Dr Snow out at Jefferson Mercy Hospital in Festus on Feb 9th.

I understand the hunger but bacon & potato Soup (while i believe you chewed it to death) wasn't a great choice. Your Dr & seems like your BF just want you to succeed...
I'd like to suggest some Tomato Soup with fat free refried Beans mixed in until thick as pudding. I find the Protein from the beans really sticks with me.
If you take the same logic and mix things into the plain Greek yogurt maybe you can work with that? I've taken peeled, seeded cucumber with a bunch of fresh dill and black pepper - tossed it all in my nutrabullet and it was extremely smooth, filling & tasty.
Wishing you the best!

@@Positive44 - I have to ask when can you remember "only" losing 12 pounds in 8 days? Come on honey you are doing fan-freaking-tastic!!!! I have learned (the hard way over and over and OVER) that if that scale stops moving its usually because I've let my Protein drop (again). How much have you been getting?
@@It's Time - if you can tolerate the Tomato Soup well and really want to freak your taste buds out try this: In a pot mix 1 can Tomato Soup, refill can with beef broth & dump that in there add 1t Worcestershire Sauce, 1 t lemon juice then 13/4c Water - bring it to a simmer for a few minutes. SO GOOD!! If you have unflavored whey Protein you can mix in (while its all still cold) that would be even better
I seem to remember someone having an avocado craving and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. It was driving me coocoo so.... I invented an Avocado Protein shake for Breakfast this morning and it really help me with the craving! 1 scoop unflavored whey protein (or maybe vanilla?) 1c lactose free skim milk, 1/2c Water, 1 whole ripe avocado and some black pepper and salt (I used a salt sub called Nu-salt) - blended the heck out of it in my Nutrabullet and didn't even have anything to strain out -- I added some ice to my travel tumbler and some extra salt & pepper and YUM! I think text time I'm adding a little mild salsa verde!
I know I've only had a revision (from bypass) so your mileage may vary on these recipes but with the acid reducer my surgeon has me on I'm starting to enjoy food, even in liquid form. I have my post-op appointment tomorrow afternoon & I'm really looking forward to it.

Hey awesome 2/9 team Happy Monday! How's everyone fairing with the fluids and Protein?
I got 70g in on Saturday and 72g on Sunday!!!! I was so excited and told my wife all about my Protein intake last night and she looks at me like "Ummm, okay... let me guess you pooped today too?" LMFAO - guess its doesn't seem like much to get excited about when you don't have to try eh?
Protein! -so I know I utterly failed at adding Protein powder to anything hot while on Clear liquids but I realllllllllly wanted something like hot chocolate yesterday and I refused to just make hot chocolate unless I could get some nutrition out of it.... so before I started getting too crazy in the kitchen (I made my wifey and kiddo heart shaped cheesecakes!) I checked email and I was saved by an email from http://www.bariatricfoodie.com/ . I must have signed up for emails last week during my drug inducted web browsing and I have to thank drugged up me for being awesome because this particular email had a easy tutorial on how to make hot Protein drinks . The site seems to switch back to the home page really quick but I was able to get the basic directions copied into a word document (attached). The lady who writes this blog has a great sense of humor which I think we all need to break up the frustration I know at least I feel occasionally. I ended up making a hot chocolate Peanut Butter protein mug that really hit the spot using a scoop of chocolate Protein Powder, 2T PB2 powder & 1t splenda with just a little unsweetened almond milk and Water since my body seems to still hate regular milk... It was so yummy I sipped on it for about an hour and totally forgot to take a picture.
Yeah so I'm going to go make another mug now!

Hey team. Quick update as weekends around here are a little crazy & everyone else is still in bed.Since I was only a RNY Revision I don't have the swelling it sounds like everyone here is experiencing. I'm so sorry! Instead I have an extremely raw throat which is bad and good. Nearly constant sipping warm tea makes it feel so much better to that's really helping with Fluid intake.
The gas definitely stinks *snort* no seriously that was kinda rough but I've had 2 solid BMs and the gas has really subsided. I think I'm lucky because I'm really able to get in all my Fluid & plenty of Protein. I got 70g in yesterday and was very proud of my BM this morning LOL...
Speaking of Protein if you can tolerate them Slim fast has a high protein (20g) version ready to drink with only 1g sugar and I was able to tolerate it very well. It was very "low bubbles". The Isopure protein Water tastes weird but it's totally worth it to help things move through my system.
I'm really playing around with the Protein shakes & puddings today so I'll catch up with all of you later!
Guess what?!?! I drank the SlimFast and feel like a new person!!!! Amazing what the protein can do for healing and energy!!
Wow really, I actually said I was drinking an approved shake tomorrow because this Isopure is killing me ???????????? so glad to know that it worked.
I'm actually trying to figure out what cream Soups I can eat on Tuesday, does anyone have any ideas? I figured Tomato but can figure out what else ????
I strained French onion. I've also blended the hell out of a can of beef & barley Soup with 1c chicken broth today then strained it. OMG heavenly. Also, if you have access to some fresh herbs (I got an awesome herb garden for Xmas) I've found simmering any Soup on low for a while with different herbs really improves taste. Don't be shy about using some spices then just strain & enjoy!!

@It's Time -the ricotta bake is fantastic also - I did half "Italian style" like the recipe was written and then half with taco seasoning, salsa verde instead of marina and subbed out Mexican style shredded cheese - so fun 'PLAY with you food' is my motto. Since I can only have 1/3-1/2 cup its going to be darned tasty As for the ice cream when I tossed the mix in the blender on high for a while it got very thick and nearly doubled in size so you might just be able to freeze that in a bowl and scoop it out.... hmmm I think I shall try it this morning (and you know I'll report back !)
@@Positive44 - honey PLEASE call your Dr ASAP they might need to give you at least some IV fluids so you can stay hydrated. Please let us know how they respond.
@TxJP - have you tried different Protein supplements? I know it took me a bit to find some I could manage. The Isopure Water does have a funky after taste but I look at it as something I just gotta get down to be successful. I hope your first day back to work goes well!
