  1. @@Amelie2016 What's a proton pump inhibitor? I wasn't given one of those?

A proton pump inhibitor is a medicine that stops your body from producing as much acid, my surgeon put me on a mandatory two month course after surgery, then said if I had any issues with acid after to go to my doctor and get it re-prescribed. Because it reduces the amount you produce (rather than just help with what you have) I haven't had any trouble with acid. (note: that's just me, people react differently. Even with the PPI you may have an issue).

Yeah, I have to take esomeprazole for 6 months. It's to reduce the stomach acids and decrease your chance of getting stomach ulcers.

  2. I have lost 35lbs since surgery... but.. I have issues getting Water down. Liquids down and food down. If I have too much broth or yogurt or whatever it comes back up.

Everything I take in has to go in very very slow including water. Or it huts like it doesn't fit going down.

@@martytx07 I get what you are saying because I have thought... hell. No wonder I'm loosing weight when I try to drink or eat too much it hurts... so I guess I'm greatful for it just the same.

Exactly why I'm a little sad that I don't get sick lol. It's sort of bad that I want that feeling but I do! That way, my mentality sort of becomes, you cant eat that or it will make you sick. Right now it's still in the same mind frame of you can eat anything (except stuff on the list but that's only because I don't want my stomach to rip open and I die!!! Lol jk) . Of course, I love that I'm not really hungry so the surgery does help with that but I'm just more concerned with is this gonna help a lot in the long run. I really hope it does!

  3. What is everyone's results so far? I've only lost 21lbs since surgery :( 37lbs total since the beginning of my pre op diet. I don't know about y'all, but I don't have really any issues eating anything. It's sort of crappy for me because I'm like dang, if I'm able to eat this without any kind of bad feeling, then what's gonna stop me from wanting this later. This is mostly referring to bread. I've seen a few people talk about not being able to eat bread and it goes down like nothing for me. The only thing that I had a problem eating was a boiled egg. It felt like it got stuck going down and was there for a good 15 minutes lol. I don't even eat boiled eggs much so even if I can never have it again (I'm sure I can in the future lol) I wouldn't be sad. Last time I ate one before this was Easter of last year lol. Although I've had bread, I don't crazy on it. I've had a whole croissant one day and it went down like nothing. Idk, I'm just worried I did something and my stomach has stretched. I am able to drink a lot of Water too. I have a 30oz cup and I easily drink 3-4 of those a day and I see people struggling with their water intake and I'm just like dang, why don't I have any issues. Idk, I just might be over thinking it. Weight is still coming off so it's still good. I just want to get to a smaller weight and be able to maintain it.

  4. I find myself obsessing about leaks, is it just me? I mean I can't wait to get further enough along to where I won't worry so much.

Lol you're not the only one. I think about it too...what if I'm leaking on the inside and I'm just dying away and I don't know it!?! Lol but from what I've read, it's pretty noticeable symptoms. Chest pain, shortness of breath, fever, etc. That's what keeps my mind off of it. I just tell myself, "You don't have those symptoms! You're not leaking!" lol it seems to help!

  5. Has anyone returned to work yet? Just curious, I've been back since Friday and tonight is my last night until next weekend. But I feel like going back to work soon was helpful for my recovery. I never told my job about the surgery, neither did I tell my doctor about my plans to return. I feel great now, I felt like the bed and recliner was keeping me "in pain"...

I'm back to work now. I took 8 days off. I told everyone at work why I was taking time off. They were all supportive. A group of coworkers were even gonna do the pre-op diet with me. 4 of the girls I worked with said they would do it with me but in the end, only 1 stuck it out with me lol. But yes I am back to work and for the most part feel fine. Every now and then I feel a slight little pain but really isn't that bad. I sit down for like 70% of my day here at work though so that makes it easier of course.

  6. Have you guys seen these? They have 40g of Protein in them! Yikes!!

From what my doctor has told me, it's not a good idea to get a drink a Protein Shake with more than 30g of protein because our bodies can only absorb about 20-30g of protein at a time. During my pre-op diet I had found these Protein Drinks that had 42g of protein. They told me to go ahead and drink them during the pre-op but told me after surgery, only 30g shakes.< /p>

  7. I've been doing pretty good but what i dont understand is that I'm hungry!! I'm able to get all my fluids in a day but i dont understand the hunger.

I'm on day 11 today and even now I'm not sure if I've actually felt hungry hungry. For me, I think it's more cravings that I yearn for. I miss the texture of food. I can't wait to be able to actually bite into something again. I was excited when I got the ok to have thick Protein Shakes again and got the ok to have creamy Soup. Its so much better than just broth! If I may ask, how did you do on the pre-op diet? Was it a big struggle to make and were you always hungry then too? I really found that drinking those Protein shakes, Water, and my one can of soup actually made it bearable. In all honesty, it made me question the need for surgery since it was sort of simple for me to do. In those two weeks alone, I lost like 16lbs. I think this was the first time I had dieted with protein shakes with such high protein (Premier 30g protein). I decided to get the surgery since I had already put all this time and effort and figured it would make the weight loss more long term than doing without the surgery. So now that I have the surgery, it seems like they ask me to consume too much. I'm supposed to be at 60g of protein again but I just find it sort of hard to do all that. They want me to have two shakes and then one soup a day which is what I had prior to surgery. To me, it seems like a lot because even before surgery, that was enough. So now I find myself drinking one shake a day and on soup a day. I just add Protein Powder to my soup so I don't have to drink another shake later. Right now, I'm sort of curious to what it's gonna feel like when I start feeling really hungry again.

  8. Hello group! Well I just had the surgery performed on 1/28/16 and figured I was close enough to the 1st. My stats are male, 5'10 and my starting weight when starting the pre op diet was 306. On the day of surgery I weighed 288. It has now been over a week since surgery (day 11 today) and I now weigh 280. I was hoping to have lost more during this first week but I know I need to be patient. 8lbs is good I know but still lol. Ok, so about my experience so far. It's actually been a lot easier than I expected. I expected the pain to be horrible but it really wasn't that bad. Only one of the incisions ever really hurt and that was the one on my right abdomen. Of course, I figured it was because that's where they pulled the remainder of the stomach out. The max I would say my pain has been throughout this entire thing would be like a 4-5 and that was immediately coming out of surgery. After that, it was pretty easy sailing. I haven't had any issues keeping anything down. I know when I drink fluids to slow down if I feel like it isn't going down as smoothly as possible. Sometimes I can feel like it's going slowly when it gets to my chest area and then it goes down but this feeling lasts for literally 3 seconds at the most. I have gone to the gym once since coming out of surgery and that was like day 4. Figured I could use the extra walking since I was sort of scared of getting blood clots and walking around the house back and forth seemed odd lol. I walked for 45 minutes on the treadmill so not too shabby. So anyways, I went back to work yesterday. Pretty stationary type job with not that much walking. At this point my pain is probably at a 0. Well last night I'm watching TV while on the couch and I start laughing, which makes me start coughing and then my freaking incinsion (right abdomen of course) begins to hurt again. It seriously went from a 0 to the past 4 days or so, back to like a 3-4 when moving certain ways, getting out of bed, etc. I thought I was home free in the pain department when it came to the incisions but a stupid loud laugh/cough ruined it :( lol. I feel like I'm back to like day 2 or 3 following surgery. Once I felt the pain I was like what the heck. Then I got up and I knew that the pain was back. It's weird. So now I'm like dreading to sit out of bed, get up from the couch, etc because of it again. Oh well, I know the pain will pass soon enough and I wouldn't say it's strong enough to take the pain pills because it petty much goes away once I'm in a comfortable position. Idk, has anyone else had this issue where the pain just came back out of no where? Aside from that everything is going good. Wish everyone on here the best of luck :)
