    MARCH SLEEVERS?

Yes . Stall for 4 days now. Surgery was on 3/22. I keep calm on move on with the program. Take my protein and try to go the gym on a regular base.
  2. Bad habits die hard. Don't worry about it. We are all experiencing moments where we believe we can go back to our previous lives and eat what we used to... But this is not true anymore. The only thing you will achieve is to hurt yourself as your sleeve won't react well to fat and heavy food. This is a learning curve. I experienced it recently. You need to listen to the signals your body sends to not repeat the same mistakes. You will be fine. Go back to the basics: fluids, Proteins, exercise. Take care.
  3. I am also self paid and this is once I did all of the pre op tests that my surgeon told me how much he would removed. He also had the reputation to do tight bougies to avoid failures. I am not saying it is not important but you should rather focus on the surgeon experience and may be talk to some of his patients ? I did that and it helped me. Good luck with your search.
  4. First of all thank you for your kind words. Yes it is extremely difficult but I have to admit that in some weird way the VSG helps me to focus on myself and my future life that I imagine healthy with my wife and daughter . Without the sleeve and because of the pain I am in, I would have ended up eating all day long and probably drinking too, because you know, I have the perfect excuse for self destruction. I knew it would happen soon or later. The week after our loss, I literally starved myself and lost 14 pounds. I knew it would be temporary. That is why I had to get the surgery. My surgeon was very supportive. My life since then changed so much. I am not hungry but I experienced head hunger. I even tried once to eat something I was not supposed to (a tiny piece of bread with some turkey ham, not something crazy). The bread was NOT a good idea. I ended up throwing up. It calmed me down for a while. I read a lot about head hunger and so far I think I know how to control it. I was not able to repress any binge eating in the past and it depressed me. I am also a black and white person and the sleeve definitely put me on the "right side" of what I need to do.
  5. I agree. Please resist the urge to restrict your food (especially your protein) when you are on a stall. It is counterintuitive, but restricting is the worst thing you can do. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall Thank you so much for that link. I have read it a few times and it really helps. I believe that we are very (too?) focused on our progress and any stall or tiny weight gain can end up in a moral drama . Good news is that I am on a stall but o can fit in trousers I could not close last week. Something is still happening!
  6. I understand the concern, but does that really matter? I mean at the end you will end up with a tube that fills up very fast and that is the idea. I did not see my stomach before and I don't see it now. I am getting used to the quantity I can eat (still not easy to easy to put the right quantity on the plate).
  7. I noticed that water with a high mineral content makes me sick. I drink water with low minerals , usually the one recommended for babies. It is easier on my sleeve. I also need to add a flavor to it (mint, raspberry , lemon etc.). Plain water is just a nightmare .
  8. I guess it really depends from the surgeon and the case. Mine told me he removed 85% of my stomach, not because of my BMI but because He has a standard sleeve size that he applies to his patients. After about 900 sleeves done, I believe he knows what he is doing [emoji4]. Then the percentage will depend on how dilated is your stomach prior to surgery. Mine obviously was way oversized. Hope it helps.
  9. Good on you for walking out. She's a f**king idiot -- uninformed and passing along wrong information to people who need good info. Jeez! Yes. I also forgot to mention that she made me climb on a machine supposed to calculate my muscle mass, fat, water and bones weight. It seems that I have around 90 pounds of muscle. Then I was trying to explain that it is physically not possible for me to have the same Protein intake (the famous 60-70 grams a day) as for a woman of 160 pounds that would have 60 pounds of lean muscle. Any fitness instructor, website or magazine would also customized to protein intake in function of the activity and goals. Giving the same recommendation for everybody is just dumb. Anyway, I am looking for a different NUT, but not easy to find one that is experienced with VSG patients. I've seen another one that wanted to put me on a regular hypo caloric diet...of 1200 Cals a day when I am barely reaching 900 a day. I guess I need to contact other clinics / surgeons that are used to VSG to get names of the NUT they work with. I'd it does not work, I will stick to the program I found on the web (Ottawa hospital) which is very detailed. For anybody can recommend me a website or program, it would be great.
  10. Couple of more days and the stall is still there . I try to walk and be active. I have been eating less proteins and I feel more tired. I also believe this is the reason for the stall. I need to get back on track . I tried some soft food and also some meat (turkey and a few bites ), and it went well.
  11. 3 weeks stall is here! 3 days and I am not losing weight on the scale . More gym, still 800 calories and nothing. I embrace the stall as it was said here many times. I know it is a matter of time before it kicks off again as I am doing the right thing. I need to be careful because I believe that head hunger is coming up. I had a "working lunch" at work with catering and absolutely nothing I could eat. Frustrating. Food looks good and I thought I was hungry when it was not the case. I had to step out to get my shake, hiding so nobody would notice. I can't wait to come back to a "normal" life even if it means eating one mini sandwich and not a dozen like I used to . Anyway it is such a small price to pay for all the benefits the sleeve is bringing me.
  12. So it had to happen. My first mistake. I was doing fine with purée and smoothies. Then I thought that I could try something else. I was cooking a nice sea bass for my daughter and as the texture looks ok I gave it a try. I chewed very well did not drink anything 30 minutes before, etc. it went well as first so I kept eating. 3 or 4 tea spoons. Then it did hit me. Nausea, stomach ache, throwing up. Ok sleeve buddy, i got your point. By the way, I don't know about you, but throwing up post sleeve is a new and VERY painful experience . I used to be able to throw up in the past just by thinking about it . That is not the case anymore and the sleeve contractions are really something else. Bottom line is : stick to the plan. Learned that today!

    Working out and your stages

Yes. You are burning a lot of calories as your body is "starving" mode. I think it will get better when you return to normal food. I noticed that I am not sweating as much as I used too and my hands are always cold which never happened to me. The more fat we will lose the more sensitive to cold we will be. That's still a small price to pay to be healthy in my opinion.

  15. It is! Not quite the season yet but we were able to get some from south of Spain that were actually ok.
  16. Is that not amazing how things are getting easier when we lose the extra weight? I have been able to complete a "boot camp hiking" program on my elliptical bike and burnt over 1000 calories, on top of my walk today (intense as I went shopping in a huge outdoor outlet with my wife who is skinny and walks very very fast [emoji4]. Tried the blender for juice today and everything went well. Smoothies are just easy on the sleeve. I tried very red tomatoes and later on watermelon. Delicious!
  17. Lovely day in Barcelona today. After a 30 minutes elliptical bike session, I went to the natural history museum with my daughter followed by a long walk on the seaside and reached my 10000 steps. I tried some hummus at lunch and a cream of zucchini, asparagus and potatoes tonight. Lovely. No pressure on the sleeve. I notice that my weight loss is slowing down a bit and vary now every two days, and I am comfortable with it. I still lose some size even the days the weight remains the same. Everything is great within this sleeve journey!

My surgeon also recommended me to swim. Less aggressive on the body. I wait for the weather to be a bit warmer (I am cold all the time now!) before I give it a try.

40 minutes is pretty good. You listen to your body and that is important. No need to tickle the stitches [emoji4]

Walking is a great start. Do what you can. Don't push it. You will do just fine.

    Working out and your stages

Hi. I am two weeks out and I can do an hour of elliptical bike per day (mostly fat burn program, no hill challenges or things similar. I keep my BPM around 120 -130 top. No weight lifting yet. I also try to walk my 10.000 steps per day.
  22. I would like to share a couple of pics after on month total and 35 lbs down. 2 weeks diet and 2 weeks on the sleeve. Not to goal (still a long road) but definitely an improvement, at least in my mind. Have a great day!!!

  24. I just come back from my appointment with my so called nutritionist. We had a huge argument. At first she confused me by telling me to stay on liquid 2 weeks more when I am already 2 weeks doing it. Then she said I was taking too much proteins per day (90-100 g) to which I answer that first of all, I do sport and I don't want to lose muscle. Proteins give me the energy I need and I don't feel tired. I also told her I drink 2 liters of water a day, so plenty to not expose my kidneys. Then she was not coherent on the kind of purées and soups I could drink. Very frustrating. She recommended to drink plenty of fresh tropical fruits juice (yeah, I can take the blender with me at work). I asked her about the high sugar content and she admitted it was a downside but plenty of vitamins.... To which I answer I take vitamins and minerals everyday.... Painful and waste of time. I believe I will follow other recommendations I found from hospitals and doctors on the Internet. I left the room when she suggested to replace cardio with yoga.
  25. Don't get me wrong. I embrace this change with all I have. That is the best thing I've done for me. It is just that I know I could lose weight on my own. I never knew how to keep it off though.
