    Words of wisdom welcome!

    The sleeve is a tool. Not THE solution. If you are a binge eater you will still be...but you are going to hurt yourself as you won't be able to eat much. I know I needed this tool as hunger and huge quantities of food was my problem. Now I don't think about food that much and I have new hobbies. I'm not saying I am cured from head hunger, but I can control it, which I was not able to do in the past. I did not have counseling but it seems a good idea.     4 Days Post-Op Blues

    Hang in there. You will feel better soon. You just went through a major surgery and your body needs to heal / adjust. Try to get your Water and Proteins daily. This is what you need to focus on. Regarding water, I need to add flavor to it. I can't drink it without. You should try it too. I am almost 2 months out (surgery on March 22) and things get better. Take care.   3. Trip on the scale this morning... 9 lbs lost this month. The weight loss rhythm is definitely slowing down. I guess it is also linked to the fact that I am not that far away from my goal (at least this is a way to look at it ). I am thinking about focusing more on strength/ weight lifting rather than cardio. I also need to change my eating habits.... And be patient, which is hard for me.   4. I have been back to the gym the last few days and killed it. It helps feeling better. I have been watching a bunch of YouTube videos on what people are eating 2-3 months out ...and I know I can't do the same. That does not mean I am doing bad, I just can't eat some of the food and/or quantity. I am wondering if other people are experiencing the same. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. I have a hard time eating anything else than protein shakes and / or Quest bars. I can eat salmon as long as it not over cooked. Yogurt also goes well. Everything else is either leading to acidity or a trip to the bathroom. Cereals for breakfast is also ok. I don't know if this is related to stress as I am under an unbelievable workload lately. I take my vitamins but I feel exhausted al the time. I did not go to the gym at all this week, which means that my weight did not change (or not much). A week to forget.   6. Tomorrow is week 7 post-op and I am doing ok. I decided to let the scale out of my life for a while. I went to visit my sister for a long weekend and I had to be careful about what to eat and not to try. Overall I did good (she knows about my surgery so she bought stuff she knew I would eat, and I REALLY appreciated it). I still tried a couple of things new and except a rice salad that sent me directly to the bathroom, everything else was ok. Did several long walks. Very nice.   7. I am trying my best , which does not mean I am always following the rules . Doing your routine is a major benefit and minimize the impact of the carbs from the biscuits. But you're right, being home is so much easier to stay on top of everything. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. Last night was great. Good friends, great atmosphere , I had a great time. While they started with be, I had a grape juice. I took some tapas (hummus, shrimps and salmon), stayed away from bread. Then some squid And a yogurt with mango sorbet in dessert. Yummy! It is kind of funny how you see people from a differently. I never noticed how much they ate or how they were changing after a few beers and a bottle of wine shared. Nevertheless it made me believe I can have a social life with the Sleeve and I don't have to wait for a year post-op.   9. 6 weeks and a day post op. Solid food is still an issue as I realize I eat too fast...and then I pay the price. I got tired of purée and I almost skipped that phase. I still do protein shake and yogurt for lunch, some time protein bars (Quest). I have tried to join a finger food buffet during a workshop, but my choices were VERY limited, so I won´t do it again. Social time is an issue at work (because of what I can drink or eat), and I have dinner with friends tomorrow in a tapas bar. I already checked what I can eat and drink. I should be fine, but it may be tougher than I think. we´ll see.

    Birthday drinks?

    I am 6 weeks post op and I could not think about having any alcohol. My sleeve is still very sensitive with food and I just guess it would not go well. So when I go for social events I have apple juice or unsweetened ice tea. I also tried a few cocktails without alcohol but they are full of sugar as the fruit juices are not mostly made from concentrated. Now that is my experience . I would check with your surgeon first.     Coffee

    My first drink 3 days post-op was a coffee with milk served in the hospital. I thought that the choice of drink was a bit strange. Neither my surgeon nor NUT ever told me not to have coffee or to limit the quantity. I drink 2 to 3 "real & strong" coffees a day. I never experienced heartburn or acidity. I guess I am lucky.

  14. Back home on Thursday evening after a painful travel experience. I tried some tuna with edamame in the plane and despite the fact that I chewed the hell out of it, my sleeve said no. I discovered that all kind of nuts are on the opposite very well tolerated (I have to be very careful with those!). So after 5 days where I had a lot of fresh juices and not always healthy food (curry) I actually lost 4 pounds... So. I stall home, but when I am traveling and eating more calories (1200-1300) I actually lose weight. I guess I need to change my habits on a regular base. It is working so far...   15. I think I will actually start punching the ones that are referring to the VSG as "easy way out" too! This is driving me crazy. You should have your husband browsing the forum and his own and read the stories of the people that are sharing here. He may change his mind about the surgery, obesity and the risks that are linked to it. If your stomach is indeed an healthy organ, the rest of the body may have some comorbidities that need attention. And if he still refuses to listen, bring him with you next time you see your surgeon so he can explain him that you are taking this path for a better, healthier and longer life. Take care.
  16. Thank you for your comments. You are so right with the very little warning we get with the sleeve. I experienced it a few times and it was really unpleasant. So I am more careful these days. I also have to admit that I don't really find things I can't eat. I tried chicken, a tiny piece of lamb, some rice, even some mild spicy soup and everything is going well. I just have to eat it slowly, chew the hell out of it and wait to settle to see if I should / could have another bite. It is so embarrassing to have to run to the toilet right after lunch or dinner (or in the middle of it) that I am extra careful when eating out. I just noticed that you are 5 pounds away from your goal, and I have to admit I envy you. I may be on the right path but you almost completed your goal in 10 months if the dates are correct. This is IMPRESSIVE. Well done sir.
  17. Thanks Chris. I start to find my way regarding the breakfast for instance. This is what I had for breakfast: egg white omelette with some red and green peppers and some porridge. pretty good for the sleeve.

    *MALE ONLY* Calisthenics Post-Op?

    I had surgery on 3/22 and I started lifting lightly last week. So far I am doing great and yesterday I had a pretty intense back / shoulders /arm session and did not feel any pain. I make sure to take a good protein intake before and after the session so I don't feel completely exhausted, especially since I always end up with a 45 minutes cardio session (elliptical or trade mill). It depends on how you feel. try to start progressively and don't over do it and stop at any sign of pain or fatigue. I was also lifting quite a lot before the surgery so it is not if I was starting from scratch. Let us know how it goes!
  22. So... I am now in India. The bland menu on the plane was actually a joke. Bread, butter, Rice with vegetable, cold cod fish with Mayo....and so on. I did not eat much, as you can imagine.. Good that I had my protein bars with me. The only thing I had was an omelet on the second flight. Overall I depressed the flight attendants by returning full trays with the same question every time: do you want something else? Nope. I don't need anything. Since I did not sleep much on the plane and yesterday was rest day in the hotel, including a good workout session in their gym, which is actually very nice. I skipped lunch (sleeping), made a shake before sport and I ordered smoked salmon and tofu for dinner. that was the only thing on the menu without spices. Traveling is more challenging that what I was expecting and requires full attention and creativity ( I need to get tips and tricks so it gets easier. Within Europe or US it is not that hard, but in some other locations it could be very challenging.
  23. Thank you Chris. I really freaked out when it happened. Lesson learned. Great news is that the flight company has special dishes with bland food for people that have digestive issues. I already booked mine. I will share here what it looks like [emoji4].
  24. Thank you Kaitlyn. I think I will follow your advice and bring what o need. I have to start traveling again, and that is a concern for me. I used to deal very well with spicy food but that was before . Regarding rice, I read enough bad experiences stories on this forum for not trying it yet.
  25. So tomorrow is my one month anniversary and I have the feeling it is getting worse. I had to go on a business trip yesterday and today. I took my regular breakfast and went to the airport. Once I arrived my colleagues insisted to go to the corporate canteen with me. I could not refuse since I have not seen some of the guys for a few months . Then there was the dilemma on what to eat. Choice was either lamb in a gravy sauce or some fish in a white sauce. Side dishes were steamed carrots and quinoa. I went for the fish, few carrots and the quinoa. I eat very little , was extremely careful with chewing, no drinking and so on. After a few bites of the fish I had a couple of carrots and one bite of quinoa. Then I started to have a hiccup that did hurt me a lot. I had to discreetly go to the bathroom where I threw up the entire lunch. I notice I had a lot of saliva with the food, evens kind of foam. That was weird. Sorry for the gross details but that worried me. As soon as the sleeve got empty all the discomfort was gone. Then in the evening I had to join them for drinks. And we went to a pub...with a nice selection of craft beers. They all tried different ones when I had an apple juice. After a few rounds (for them) they decided to go to a burger place ...And I went back to the hotel and bought a yogurt and some turkey ham (another bad idea) on the way. Same thing happened, plus a heartburn. I had to take my PPI to calm down. Today I had a yogurt, a protein drink I took with me, so unsweetened ice tea and a protein bar for lunch. No issues. I guess I can't go to restaurant yet. I am wondering what I am going to do next week as I am going on a business trip to India. I better bring everything I need. I am wondering how long it will be before I can have some kind of social life again.
