  1. Yes this is so true. I love the fact of not being afraid of a scale, blood pressure /test or any medical exam when the conclusions were always: "you need to lose weight, here is a diet plan". Don't get me wrong. I am still obese according to my BMI, and I have a long way to go, but I am working on it and now I can make it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. So today is 11 weeks since surgery. I thought it was a good idea to see my doc to review the blood test results I did last week. The meeting was just surrealistic. First she did not recognize me in the waiting room. I could clearly noticed that she did not know who I was. We don't have a long history of Doctor patient relationship but still. It was confirmed when she looked at her computer and told me it was a mistake as it stated morbidly obese . I thought she pulled my leg, but no. It was pretty late (6h30 pm) and it looked like she had a bad day. I reminded her nicely that I was the guy that went for the sleeve... No reaction. Ok. We look at the blood test results. All good as a young and healthy guy. And then the comment that was the cherry on the cake: "you are doing good, keep up with the diet". "Doc, I had 85% of my stomach removed. Diet has nothing to do with my weight loss". "Right, but keep doing what you do. It seems to be working for you". "Thanks." "Let's check your blood in 6 months and we will review your vitamins levels too" "Ok, thanks. Bye " So she was a bit off. I like her and she has personal issues that explain that she is not always paying attention. I really don't mind. Bottom line is that all my levels are good, which did not happen in a very long time. Another benefit from the sleeve! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. In 26 months I would have paid my sleeve with the food & drinks savings I am doing since I am sleeved ;-)

    Stomach stretching

I hate my browser sometimes... What I wanted to say: 57 pounds in 2 months, wow, that is not bad at all! I am curious to hear about the weight class too once you get to onederland. If you keep your muscle mass, you will end up having a serious advantage with the other guys. I had to increase my calories as I was feeling tired and I noticed I was losing muscle. Now I keep losing but in a slower way and I start to see the benefits of working out. good luck to you too!

    Stomach stretching

I'm eating about 600-800 calories a day. Some days it's about 80-85g of protien and few carbs and other days it's 65-70g of protien with 40-60 carbs. I've lost 57 pounds in the last 2 months. I will have to see what weight class I will be wrestling in once all of this settles. Good luck to you! Best, Sanju

    European Sleevers Where Are You?

Hi, I am French living in Spain (Barcelona). There are a few other Europeans (UK, Belgium) posting on this site. Take care, Mico.

    Stomach stretching

So... if I may ask... @Sanju, how many calories are you taking in every day? I am 11 weeks out now (today!) and I take about 1200-1300 cals daily with an average of 120 g of carbs, from which very little are coming from bread or potatoes (rice and Pasta are not my friend). I eat about 130- 140 g of Proteins. I am not a wrestler (I have done many years of Judo though) but I work out 5-6 days a week for 1 h 30, cardio and weight lifting. I could eat the sandwich you ate. The difference is that I would have stopped at the first full signal and kept the other part for dinner or lunch next day. You don´t have to finish your meal / sandwich. This is not going to stretch your sleeve, but it is just again its purpose.

    Trying to be patient

You already lost 30 pounds, which is a huge achievement! Your surgeon wants you to fully recover before doing the sleeve and he is right. You need a stomach without any complication. I can't imagine how painful could be irritation or ulcers post-op. I know that waiting is annoying, but time flies and mi July is not that far away. Keep your carbs low, take your Protein and liquids. This will prepare you for the recovery time. You are doing great!

    I'm thirsty

Here is a pretty good explanation of why we should not eat and drink at the same time (or at least it makes sense to me!)
  10. Hi Chris, I am not sure about that yet, but I am getting there. It is gym treadmill for me but it is ok . I will enjoy the weekend as I am going to Toulouse to watch a rugby game with a good friend of mine. Stay away of the bad carbs and enjoy your weekend too! 11. Ladies...Our sleeved bodies are going through a major surgery and need to heal. It does not happen overnight (unfortunately). I know that it painful and that it is an emotional roller coaster , but it is worth it. Everyday you will feel a bit better and with the weight going off, you will have more energy. Think also about all the NSV (non scale victories) to come! Check the forum for them. Take it easy, ensure Protein and Water intakes, rest. We all went through this. Take care. Real resources for people our age?

true I didn't necessarily mean like a heres how you lose weight book i mean there are plenty of those out there i just thought it'd be cool if there were maybe books about peoples journey that I could relate to or like a here was my experience the funny moments or the do's and don't i learned I don't know I guess I am a bit of an over prep type of person and as for the youtube i just generally enjoy youtube videos maybe its because i am a youtuber myself I don't know its fun to watch videos sometimes and see how people although they are going through the same thing may live totally differently and it'd be nice to see more people my age doing it I have seen plenty of books or youtube channels on the vsg and peoples experiences and I have only seen like a handful of peoples in 20's do it was more so making an observation You can always read "because I was fat" from Andy Butler. It is on Amazon for Kindle app. This is his journey towards the surgery and after. After reading it, I knew the sleeve was for me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. If you don't work out anymore, try to reduce snacking, especially the Protein bars. They won't do any good as they are extra calories if your muscles are not recovering. Regarding traveling, I also move quite a lot and pack my bars that I use as dinner most of the time. You can always find good protein on salad buffet. I skip main course, because I am not hungry after salad, especially if I add tuna, boiled eggs or salmon. You can always get low fat dressing on the side. No dessert while traveling. You never know what is in there. If you can find a supermarket in the area, even better. Also, if you spend some nights out on trips, take the opportunity to use the hotel gym. Most of the chains have fitness rooms. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  15. You are very welcome! Miami, what a great city. I used to fly there a few times a year when my former company had its head quarters in West Palm Beach. I spent some great weekends over there!! When you refer to pies, I assume you want to say Key lime pie, right? . Premier vanilla protein shake sounds a solid option. I remember I found a light version of key lime pie recipe on the Internet that was very good. I will let you know if I find it back. Sharing is the purpose of this community, so no need to thank me . I am just sharing what I do, and that makes me happy to know it can help. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. I try to eat very slowly, so I have the impression to eat more. And...I focus on other things than food. I go to the gym, walk outside, spend time with my daughter, try to keep active. You will see that once you start losing a decent amount of weight, you will see things differently. The energy boost everybody talks about happened for me when I was a month out. 2 weeks is rough. I was miserable, no energy, only liquids, could not move much. It will get better. Hang in there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. I knew it was right for me when I found out I would not be starving anymore, and it is working for me! I did not want to do a bypass because I was concerned with the consequences (dumping, Vitamins to take everyday, etc). My problem was with food quantity. I was a big eater. Food was my way to release stress. Comfort food all my life since childhood. I knew I could follow a diet, as I did it many times before successfully , but I needed a tool to help me not to starve and put the way back. I found it .
  18. 10 weeks out. Surgery was on March 22. What about you? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. Yep. Can't drink regular water. I need to add a flavor to it. Any kind, but plain water is extremely difficult for me, or I have to drink it very slowly.
  20. Thank you for your nice comments. I do what I can, and it is not working too bad for now. For the smoothie, I take some watermelon I put in the blender, some ice (a few cubes) I add light cranberry juice and voila! I also do it with unsweetened peach ice tea. I like the combined flavors. Sometime I add a full peach in it. I try to avoid high sugar content fruits such as cherries or grapes. Mango juice was not a good idea as the flavor overtakes the watermelon completely. I tried to mix pineapple and light coconut milk. That makes an awesome alcohol free cocktail. Something else I do in the morning: I put an espresso shot in my chocolate shake with skimmed milk. Awesome Cappuccino !
  21. I heard that at one year out you can eat about a cup of food. Regarding the steak meal, it seems a bit extreme....unless he stays at the table for 1 hour, wash it down drinking, etc. Having said that...I believe that the quantity of food we can eat increase after a year or so. But I know that I won't be eating again a 10 oz steak with baked potato and veg, even if I could. That is against of the purpose of my surgery. But that is my vision of things. I would be curious to hear from more senior sleevers on that.

    people not educating themselves

Same thing for me. My surgeon was great and I knew everything I needed to know about the surgery...but that was it. Being self paid, no pre op diet, I did all the tests needed though. Once I left the hospital I had 2 pages about liquid diet and purée phase. My nut is a no go. I posted on that. I also believe I have a decent education, but that has nothing to do with getting the right information. I have to admit I don't know what I would have done without this place. Most of the comments / advices I read here make so much sense and work. This is how I moved out of the purée phase and today I don't think I need a Nut . My regular doctor visits for blood tests reviews and control visits with the surgeon is all I need. The rest I find it here . Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. Whats your food look like each day?that is a good question.I usually wake up at 6 AM, I take a protein shake or a bar (Quest). Then I go to the gym from 6h45 to 8h15. 15 minutes elliptical to warm up, a 30 minutes weight lifting with 80% of max weight and high rep until failure of the muscle group. I usually do 3 x 10-12 reps of different exercises, then 30 seconds rest and another set of 3. 30 minutes running to finish. Once I get to work I have another bar / shake. At lunch I usually take a salad (2 boiled eggs, some chickpeas or beans, couple of cherry tomatoes, green. No dressing) and a fat free yogurt for later. no snack in the afternoon. If I am hungry, I go for another yogurt. in the evening I usually go for scrambled eggs (2), or sea food (shrimps, squids, smoked salmon) and a smoothie (Watermelon, light cranberry juice is my favorite). no late snacks. During weekend I usually take lest protein shakes / bars and eat poultry, fish, etc. I don't have any cravings or things I want to eat. I select food I know will work for my sleeve, but I don't miss anything...yet. it may change later. I don't know. I don't enjoy eating as I used to (which is a good thing because that is the reason why I am obese), even if I still cook for my family during the weekends. This is a good thing as I want to move on with my life and have other objectives. Hope it helps. Awesome post. I love it when members detail what they eat and their activity level- it's very helpful and I always get some good ideas. Can you share how you make the watermelon smoothie? I'm convinced I'm part fruit monkey- can't get enough. Btw way to go!!! You are on fire!!! Love your attitude. Thank you for your nice comments. 25. Hi Chris, yes they have! I started to run this week too. 30 minutes every morning in the gym. I hated it at first but I am getting used to and I think I could end up liking it . Thank you for the compliment. Coming from someone that lost almost 100 pounds, it means a lot.
