    October Surgery Buddies

I'm one week out and I still can't lay on my side. I am not getting good sleep at all. I cannot wait until I can sleep like normal again!

    Feeling scared

@FloC I had my RNY on October 18 so we're at the same place. My surgery went really well and I was discharged on Friday the 21st. I've been so worried about becoming dehydrated that I have forced myself to sip, sip, sip constantly and I always have something in my hand to sip. I've managed to take in roughly 68 oz a day. You are so close to your 2 liters! Just keep sipping along. Maybe add Crystal Lite or something like that? Not easy at first but quickly has become second nature to keep sipping. I got to start pureed foods today which I was so excited and ready for but it's kinds of thrown me off my drinking schedule :-( For breakfast I had a scrambled egg and it was delicious! I had 6 bites (using a "sample" spoon) and I stopped when I thought it was time. In a short time I knew I had eaten too much or too fast. food just sat there in my chest. It took about an hour before I started feeling better. I've decided that at least in the beginning I'm going to stick to Protein shakes for breakfast and maybe lunch, too, and then pureed food for supper and drinking my liquids in between. I'm trying to get all my Vitamins and supplements scheduled in to my day as well. It kind of feels overwhelming but I think if I write things down it'll start to fall into place. As for foods to eat? Mayo Clinic Rochester Nutritional Guidelines recommends: Scrambled eggs, Soups (some may need to be strained or pureed), mashed potatoes, yogurt, refried Beans, pureed lean meats, pureed soft vegetables, cottage cheese, pureed lean meat, fish, poultry, lite/light frozen yogurt and ice cream, no-sugar-added/sugar-free pudding and custard. Good luck!
  3. @CindyI114 Are you getting things pulled together for your big day (27th)?
  4. I asked my surgeon (Mayo-Rochester) why he didn't require the 2 week liquid pre-op diet to shrink the liver. He said it wasn't necessary. I said "Oh, because Mayo has really good liver lifters?!" He actually smiled and said "Sure!"
  5. @marieac2 I've had head hunger which started yesterday (not constant, though) but no real hunger at all. Amazing since I haven't had anything solid to eat since October 17. Since you are having your surgery at Mayo - Jacksonville ... do they require you to do the 2 week liquid diet? Mayo - Rochester doesn't require it.
  6. Hi! My surgery went very well on Tuesday, October 18. The day was very surreal. My surgeon and his team were outstanding and my day time nurse was The Best! Wasn't sure what to expect for pain but the best way I can explain it now is it felt like I did a 1,000 sit-ups. So while it was a nuisance feeling it wasn't severe sharp pain - for me at least. I was supposed to be released on Thursday but because of hadn't drank 100 ml within 24 hours my surgeon wanted me to stay and one more night. Had I known that beforehand I would have worked harder on that. I was ok with having to stay though. I wanted to start out on the right foot. I've been doing OK with getting my liquids in now at home so far. Yesterday I got in 68 oz! I'm on track today to do about the same. I get kind of tired ease so I mainly walk around the house. I did go with my husband to the grocery store this morning and got a pretty good walk in there. Tuesday, the 25th I start puréed and I'm looking forward to that! I'm happy to be done with the surgery and the n to the next stage of losing weight! ????
  7. . Also I asked the surgeon why they didn't require liquid diet. He said they didn't see a lot of improvement plus the have heavy duty liver lifters. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. I didn't have to do pre-liquid diet or do anything different the day before. I had my surgery yesterday and surgeon said everything went great!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  11. I sure will! I have a stuffy nose so I called my surgeon's office this afternoon. His nurse said as long as I don't have a fever the surgery should go on. I sure hope so! I'm ready to do this tomorrow! ????
  12. @@Mrs Elizondo Good luck tomorrow! I have my RNY Tuesday, October 18th!
  13. Yes, I'm going through Mayo. ????
  14. @CindyI114 Hi! Congratulations on your surgery date! I'm scheduled for RNY on October 18th in Rochester, MN. Where will you have your surgery?
  15. Hi everyone! I'm 52 years old and my RNY is scheduled for October 18th at Mayo Clinic - Rochester MN!
  16. I just told a friend today that it doesn't seem real yet to me. I started this journey officially back in March 2016 and while I've been doing what I need to do, it's never felt real. My surgery is scheduled on October 18th. I'll meet my surgeon for the first time on October 11th. Once he says, "See you on the 18th!" then I'll finally feel it's real and it's going to happen. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that feels that way! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    October Surgery Buddies

@@KristenLe, we're "October 18th Surgery Day Buddies"!! I don't have a 2 week liquid diet to adhere to but I'll have to do liquids only the day before surgery. On October 11 I have two appointments: the first is a Surgical Appointment and I will meet my surgeon for the first time. My second appointment is called "Pre Bariatric Dietitian Group. I don't know if will truly be a group meeting or if it will just me. I'm having my surgery at Mayo Clinic - Rochester so there may be others. I feel like all of this isn't real yet. I officially started this journey in March of this year. I've done all the tests, met with the psychologist and attended the 12 week behavioral classes and 3 months with dietitian. Once my October 11th appointments are over and the surgeon says, "See you on the 18th!" Then I'll feel like it's real. I'm ready to get this all rolling! Where will you have your surgery? It would be nice if we could keep in touch and help each other as October 18th approaches :-)

  20. @Thea1965 I started this journey one year ago and my day is now officially on the calendar. I'm 52 and I'm ready for this. I haven't met my surgeon yet but I've heard good things about him. I'll meet with him Oct 11 during my pre-op visit. No 2 week liquid diet for me. Just liquids the day before surgery. Do you have to do a 2 week liquid diet? Good luck to you!

    Really struggling

This is exactly what I'm going through right now! My insurance requires 6 months of dietitian appointments and my last one is August 18. My insurance does not say I have to lose weight but just show that I've had unsuccessful attempts at weight loss. I have gained weight, too, since my initial appointment and am worried I'll be denied. Have you been approved by your insurance yet? I'm glad I'm not the only one that has gained a bit. It seems like everyone else has no trouble losing weight during the 3- or 6-month period before their surgery. I'm envious! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Anyone from Minnesota?

Hi! I'm from Rochester and I know that Olmsted Medical Center has a support group that meets once a month (free of charge). I hope to have surgery in September at Mayo and plan to participate in OMCs support group after surgery.

    Minnesota?

@alicia54: Did you have yours done at Mayo or OMC? I'm going through Mayo.
