my family is DEADSET against lapbanding....
Your family is most probably scared of the surgery. Most parents don't want to have their children (even adults) hospitalized, they love you and are afraid. As for your husband, he will become more supportive as time goes on and he sees that your happy and when you lose the weight he will be proud of you. Good luck, I am lucky all my family and friends are happy for me, and one of my oldest friends is starting her Lap Band journey now. We will be supportive of each other. Just remember your doing it for you and your health and well being. Good luck Pati

pain under ribs on left side
My liquid diet is two weeks, progrssing from jello and broth to soups and yogurt and sugar free pudding, Starting tomorrow, my 3rd week and can have the yogurt, and low fat ricotta and cottage cheese and pureed fruits. That for 2 more weeks then on to mushy soft foods. No real food till week 6. But I am getting used to it. Belly is still a bit extended. My port is feeling much better, by the day.

What to try????
Well I sent back the unjury shake mixes I had sent for, they made me sick after surgery, ened up being intolerent to whey Protein, I am now using soy protein and feeling much better. Advantage Edge chocolate is good with an extra squirt of Hersey's no surgar chocolate syrup. I have also a soy protein with 25 grams per scoop plain no flavor and put that in my Soups now that I am on the Soup stage. In my third week tomorrow and going to eat pureed fruits and cottage and ricotta skim milk no fat cheese. Yummy LOL No real desire to eat anything, just healing and waiting for my first fill in September. Good luck everyone. Pati

Experiment with them, I liked and tolerated the unjury shakes until after surgery then well I became "allergic" to them, the doctor said it's not uncommon, so he changed me from whey Protein, to soy and now I am fine, I have unflavored unsweetened Protein powder from GNC at 25 grams of protein per scoop, I put that in my soups and it's pretty good. I also have EAS Advantage chocolate, and add ice and skim milk and a shot of Hersey's sugar free Chocolate syrup and it's very good. Wish Wal-Mart had more flavors. Try different ones before surgery. Good luck- Let's Get This Party Started!
Welcome, it is a bit harder than I thought, the pain and gas. But by week 3 (I am in that) you should feel a lot better. I finally do, no pain and the port area is not very sore now, it was for a while, every time I moved it hurt. All the other incisions were fine from day 1. No pain at all and the scabs are falling off in the shower. I gained back all the pre-op weight after surgery and then lost them finally. I figure also it's healing time and the real weight loss is after my first fill in September. Good luck, it's an interesting journey. But good that we are all doing it together and with support comes success. I love this board. Pati- Two weeks out from surgery and I'm struggling
I do understand, I am starting to get hungry, I am even making dinner for the family, the smells are soooo tempting, but for some strange reason I don't want to eat it. Maybe 5 weeks of mostly fluids did that. But I am going into my 3rd week and can't' wait for the applesauce (sugar free with other pureed fruit by Mott's) and cottage cheese phase. Hand in there it will get better.- Nausea & Dry Heaves
The medication anesthesia can make you sick and nauseas for a few days after surgery. I was also allergic to the whey shakes and switched to protein shakes with soy and am entering my third week and am finally feeling really good. Gas X is great for the gas pains. Take care it will get better very soon.- Who's Getting Banded in August???
Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since I was banded. It's the first day today I had no real pain. My port even felt better no pulling sensation. Still on liquids, progressing to cottage cheese and skim milk ricotta and pureed fruit tomorrow. Still on protein drink....getting sick of that. The first week is the hardest for me. I felt terrible. But it's worth it. I am able to walk better and sleep better, and feel really good about this now.- Two weeks out from surgery and I'm struggling
I was also banded on the 7th of August, tomorrow I progress to pureeed fruit and cottage cheese and low fat ricotta. I was allergic to the whey power drinks I am now on soy I like the advantage soy chocolate drink and add some Hersey's sugar free syrup to make it nice and rich. I also got soy non-flavored protein powder and mix it with my soups in a blender then heat, It makes them nice and rich and thick with no weird taste. Try that I take tomato soup and add Italian seasonings and a tsp. of Parm cheese and the whey power and blend and heat, tastes like spagetti sauce. I also have put the powder in my other soups too. I am not eating any real "food" for another 3 weeks. Week 5 and 6 I progress to soft foods like eggs and stuff. I am getting a bit hungry now that I am back cooking for the family. Got them on a nice low fat diet too. LOL we will all be healthier good luck- I had Open Surgery
I didn't have open sugery and at the end of my second week, and finally feeling good enough to do stuff like cook dinner for the family go out shopping and walk more. I can't wait till I can ride my new adult trike. LOL Just do what the doctors say and you will feel better soon, most surgeries take 6 weeks to heal. Even the laprocopic ones.- I need help
Been banded two weeks, I ended up weighting 224 when was done with the banding, the first few days, I was a bit upset, because I weighted myself on Monday before Thursdays' surgery at 211. I am now down to 205.5 So I am happy, keeping on the diet schedule. First fill will be in September. Not doing anything except walking till they tell me I can ride my bike again. Getting plenty or rest and Water. Feeling good for the first time today. take care It will come off everyone is different. Best of luck Pati- HELP? Should I travel a week after surgery?
Hey Moe how are you doing? I am doing so much better, but I doubt if I could have flown anywhere the past few weeks. I developed an allergy to whey Protein and was sick as a dog for a week, much better today and this week. Can't wait for the real work to start, and back to my exercise and my new tricycle LOL. I can get into my siz 18 jeans, just an inch and I can button them LOL the legs fit great, stomach still a bit swollen. I hope to wear them to the Lap band support group meeting the last Tues. of August at Lahey Clinic. LOL Take care Pati- Hiya All
I am waiting for that banding, there are recipes online in this forum. I suggest checking them out. I know that I love meat and am looking for good tasty recipes for chicken and beef and port all lean. Can't wait for the mushies I can have them in week 4 and 5- Can you tell me about Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA?
Hi I was just banded on August 7th and MA BCBS couldn't have been faster and better. No questions they went by what my doctors wrote about me. No problems at all. Where are you going for your band? I was done at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, which was great. They took care of everything. If you have any co-morbidites you will not have a problem if your BMI is under 40. And if you are over 100 lbs. with BMI of 40 or over, you shouldn't have any problems with them. They are very good with follow ups also, they have a nurse call you once a month to go over what your doing at home. They are very nice. So good luck. Pati- feeling sick, no energy on preop diet?
Maybe switch the kind of Protein powder you are using, I found out a week after surgery and lots of weakness and nausea that I have to change from whey protein to soy and now in my third week following surgery feeling pretty good, the headaches were from caffeine withdrawal. They are gone now. Felling a bit stronger. It will take time, I am almost 3 weeks out of surgery and finally feeling more like my old self only a bit thinner. Good luck- Anyone who said this doesn't hurt=lies!
I posted earlier, and now am just about pain free, No gas and my port is just a bit sore. I do tire easily and just don't overdo it. Most of my discomfort was from the gas and the fact I found out I was allergic to whey Protein, I sent back my case of- The band & depression
I am under treatment for mind depression anyway and on a mild antidepressant anti anxiety drug. It does help a lot with my thoughts of emotional eating. Maybe your doctor can give you something for the mood swings and you will feel less like eating emotionally. I am reading and walking and enjoying my grand baby so trying NOT to think of eating. I am able to cook now for my husband and not want to taste the food. Looking forward to next week and the semi mushy stage. LOL Take care Pati- pain under ribs on left side
I was banded on the 7th and the port is still tender and sore, I was told by the nurse that it's the last part to heal since they attach the port to the muscle and it's healing, and whenever you move it puts a little strain on it and it hurts. Thats whey you some get short of breath easy too. It will go away she told me and not to worry- Support group at Lahey Clinic
Hi, is the meeting at Lahey every month on the second Tues? On the 6th floor at what time? Let me know so I can write it down. I'll make the September one for sure. Pati- Support group at Lahey Clinic
Hi, I wasn't feeling to well on Tues. So I will make the September meeting for the Lap Banders. When is the next meeitng It's the second Tues. of every month right? On the 6th floor at 6:30 or 7"http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v238/Shamrockgirl87/AVITARS/BABYCHRISTINA.jpg- Anyone who said this doesn't hurt=lies!
Hey I agree, can't understand anyone saying it's easy, they are on heavy drugs and or lying. LOL. It's been a week and a day and finally feeling well enough to go to the store today and out shopping for 3 hours, I did need a nap after I got home. Mostly the port area is sore whenever I move. The nurse I saw yesterday said it's because the port is sewn into the muscles. And that can hurt. Gas pain finally gone, GAS X is the best thing ever. On Protein but I mix it with my Soups now, changed to soy bases I was allergic to the whey bases and spent most of the first week in the bathroom and feeling nausea all the time. Luckily never threw up. Today 100% better than last week, and hope this time next week even better. Welcome Pati- new
Welcome and congratulations on being banded. It's been a week for me. Still in a little pain. And getting use to NOT EATING LOL. Any questions you may have can be answered here. And ask away. Pati- Any Lowellelians out there?
Hey your right next door. I was banded at Lahey by Dr. Brahms. I am losing at a nice pace. Had to change to a soy Protein and not the whey protein, it made me sick and very very nauseous. Now using plain unflavored protein in my Soup and my drinks. It's much easier to digest. Week one was hard, a bit of pain and gas, Week 2 is much much better. I am able to walk and rest and now eating a bit more stuff. That helps.I picked up a cool scale at Wal-Mart in No. Reading. It's called a Health-O-Meer goes up to 375 pounds, and can save and store and calculate up to 4 people. It records your weight, BMI, and body hydration. It's very cool. Tracks your weight too you set a goal and it works everything out. If anyone has questions about Lahey, just let me know. Pati:rolleyes2::thumbup::rolleyes2::sad::rolleyes2::tt1: - Surgery 8/26
