starting BMI over 50? come on in!

Florida Pete- When I first started poking around this site and found this thread and saw all the successes, I thought to myself I just couldn't imagine being lighter. I am SO happy with the band. I've lost 80 pounds and am still counting. Congratulations on taking a HUGE step in your life to a healthier, and HAPPIER you. I cannot believe how happy I am now. I'm still 300 pounds, but I feel fantastic! 300 pounds feels better going down than it did going up. Froggi- your surgery is so close! That's just so exciting. Keep us updated on how you're doing. I've really enjoyed all your posts.

    Period Talk

Angelic- congrats! I hope the surgery goes well! My sister got banded about a month ago and she is adjusting. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. I get so worked up when I start reading WebMD. I called my doctor today. I did notice it seemed to lighten today. She said that if it's still going on fast and furious on Wednesday, to come on in since that'll be three weeks from when it started. It seems like 3-4 weeks is really the cut off time of "Okay, people, time to see a doctor." I went from being elated to at least HAVING a period, to being depressed because it was going on for so long! No wonder my husband says my emotions are like a roller coaster ride... "wheeeee!" I've cut so many coupons for pads and tampons in the past few weeks, I'll be glad to have a break. I was concerned about my Iron. If I go in on Wed I'm sure they'll take my blood. But the good thing is I'm not feeling any other "typical" symptoms of having low iron. Thanks for all your replies. Sometimes in the PCOS and band journey, I feel alone. I know I don't post a lot, but I read all your posts... It's nice to know I'm not alone.

Anyone else close to being under 300lbs????

I've been waiting for months to post on this thread! I'm finally in the 2's!! I cannot believe it! It's been YEARS! I was 299 about a week and a half ago, but I wanted to make sure I was safely there before celebrating (I tend to fluctuate!) I'm just so excited to be in the 200's, even if it's 299! You guys are so motivating, thanks so much!

    who supports right to choose

You know, after responding I've had a bad feeling about this whole discussion. Let's stick to the topic of abortion. I feel that conversation should be uplifting and cause us to think about our previous thoughts, but this thread, myself included, has used it as a means to insult and belittle. So I apologize for making this conversation anything but.

I never said more child abuse happens in black families. If you read my statement, you would see that I stated that most abuse THAT'S reported happens in black families! We have no way to track what's not reported. I do not think that most abuse happens with black families, I'm not that naive. And yes, you say that what you see on TV about Florida child abuse is accurate, what the common man sees on TV is white people abusing white children. The media portrays it's own form of racism. Of all the cases I had in Florida, only one that was picked up by the media involved a black child. Even though these cases were the same to the ones that were picked up involving a white child. And that's a personal experience statistic. My point was stating that killing these children that are abused/neglected, be they black or white, it's ridiculous.

Also, states offer the safe haven law. If you have an unwanted child, take your baby to the nearest fire department or hospital. No questions asked. We have choices before we jump into bed with that man. Exercise your right to choose! Choose safe relationships, birth control, and sound judgement.

    who supports right to choose

Cyndi- my career is social work as well and I've spent a few years doing investigations for the states of Florida and Texas. However, despite the awful conditions I see for these poor children, killing them is never my solution. We should punish a child for the poor choices a parent makes? A parent is accountable for their own choices. I've seen awesome accomplishments from some of these young people. Even after being born addicted to drugs, or having FAS. I've seen FAS children go on to graduate high school and lead productive lives. I've seen rape survivors and burn victims show tremendous strength. I've also seen the parents of these once "unwanted" children improve! Your solution is a poor one. Not only would these children get born anyway (abortion is legal, yet these parents chose against abortion) but it's a form of genocide against the poor. (Because although abuse happens in all categories, let's be honest here that most abuse- at least that's reported- occurs in the ghetto) I think I could also make the stretch that it's racism! In all the areas I've worked, most my clients have been black. Let's have some more realistic solutions people. We can't just kill babies because we don't want to deal with them, or because we've made a bad choice, or because we think they may lead a poor life.
  8. BJean- you talk as if there aren't lies coming from both sides of the camp. I'm not willing to be so naive to say one party is any better than the other. On both sides you have good people and you have bad people. On BOTH sides, we have honest people and dishonest people. It all comes down to which party supports our beliefs the most. As far as you saying "I realize that Republicans aren't used to this behavior from Democrats, but let's face it you sure can't blame them. We've had to put up with the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter for years and from someone like T. Boone Pickins and other anonymous authors of extremist garbage fostered to make people fear Obama - a man who has worked hard for people - and a man who has been a Christian his entire life - a man who has been severly maligned and who has seen fit to rise above it." And? The media, historically and is currently, more liberal. The only station that is conservative is FoxNews. I don't complain just because the news reporters don't agree with me. Move on and let's discuss issues. On a funny note, my husband says, in response to this thread question "No, I think we're only half ready, ironically, Obama fits that too." lol. To everyone reading this, don't vote based on everything you read, vote on the issues, and don't get taken in by wolves who will try to distract you by posting link after irrelevant link.

Anyone else close to being under 300lbs????

I got on the scale today and it said 306! I can't wait until I can officially post here I'm under 300! Guys, we can do it, we deserve to do it! You are all rock stars and sincerely continue to give me motivation to not give up.

    Preparing for Ike

Having spent several years in Florida, I know where you're coming from. As long as you're safe, caving in for hurricanes can be good family bonding time. My husband and I have the best memories from that time. IN fact, on of the most romantic things he's done was right after a storm when we had no cold Water. He boiled a whole tub full of hot water on the grill (with charcoal and everything) so I wouldn't have to take a cold shower. Good luck.

Are We Ready For A Woman VP?

Wow, Froggi, I'm a little shocked to hear you say that. I think saying 5 yr olds know more about sex is a poor excuse to approve sex education for kindergarten. It's a better reason for society to make different changes, like limiting exposure- not increasing it. A 5 year old does not need to know these kind of things. I don't know what kind of 5 year olds you all know, but I've never met a 5 year old that I felt needed education in this department.

    Vacation in Chicago!

Hi Everyone! My husband and I are vacationing in Chicago this weekend. Since I LOVE food, I'm wanting to visit some "classics" where I'll really get the Chicago taste, but not too big porportions or difficulty in eating. Maybe some band friend places. Does anyone have any highlights we should hit? Since of course with the band I can't eat everywhere I would normally! lol Thanks!

ssfl- congrats on your weight loss!! You're doing amazingly!

    Olive Garden NOT accomadating!!

It's funny to me they would rather have you order nothing than to order off the kids menu. I generally order a normal portion and make it something my husband likes so he can have it for dinner the next day. :lovechoc:
  16. I would have voted "HELL NO" if it was an option! I feel SO incredible, and I'm not even close to goal!

    Rash..under my stomach (apron)

... what's a weepy rash? I get this too, under my boobs and apron area. It doesn't happen all the time, but enough to make it obnoxious. I didn't even think to try to buy anything for it, I was trying to keep it warm. These are great hints that I'm going to try. Also, this may be TMI, but it smells. I mean, you can't smell it normally, but if I touch the sweat or wetness, and snif (don't laugh, you know you've done it too!) :lovechoc: it stinks!
  18. I agree, now is a crucial time to be eating properly as important parts and cells are developing.

    Needle Phobia

I don't have a "phobia" per se, but I do really hate needles. That's why I always get my fills under flouro, there's no digging. I still hate fills, but they just pop and pop out and the whole event is over within moments. I would never get a fill without the flouro. There will be no "digging" in my body!

    The Photo Album Forum

I don't mind personal pics, but when they upload a million of the same type thing, that's excessive. And, the whole tattoo pic or several pics of your new haircut... I mean, it gets old. But to each his own. I just don't look at the pics anymore. I stick to the Before and After thread (although, that's turned into more words than pics- I thought it was supposed to be just pics)

    Advertising Rant..

ha, I haven't seen that either, but you're so right on! LBT was my oasis during that phase, but it wouldn't be with that popping up!

Are We Ready For A Woman VP?

I like Palin as a person, I mean, she's right up my alley, but for the same reason I don't like Obama, I don't like Palin for VP... INEXPERIENCE. Of course, Obama is even worse because he's actually running for president.

    lapband=deceit and bullsh**t

drstan- I don't know if you're a "troll" or not, but if you're sincere, I urge you to try reading more about lapband. It will help with hunger. But you need to eat the right things in the right way. Also, two fills? Some people it really works it's magic in two fills, for some, like me, it takes five. You really need to be working WITH your doctor. I promise they're not interested in you failing. After two fills, I still was hungry. Don't give up because you lack the patience and follow through. Giving up is what made you fat.

Help My husband is forcing me to eat.

I hope you guys aren't talking about this in front of your daughter, and that causes problems in and of itself. In my opinion, your husband does appear to just be worried. Although, he needs to know that if you eat too much, you can hurt yourself. And not eating all day is not healthy either, and doesn't make it so you can eat more in the evening. I think your daughter is old enough to understand some basics. That you and daddy are going to model good eating behaviors for her, even though you don't eat a lot, you eat the right things that are healthy. I would explain that mommy eats good things for her body, but unlike daddy and your little girl, she can't eat too much or it would hurt her.
