  1. I would love for you to give me some advice on how to get started with my band again. I have been a complete failure and gained back the 23 lbs I lost at the beginning in Oct 08. I am ready now to try again but I want to get all the information together and do everything right. Thanks! Cheryl

  2. I am getting very down right now. It just seems I am not having any restriction and I am eating way too much. Give me some ideas as to what you have been eating? Do you drink coffee?

    Thanks,

    Cheryl

  3. Hi Cher,

I just had my surgery on October 8th. I am a little over two weeks and started added back foods. I am so afraid I am going to gain back some of my 20 lbs loss. I am getting a fill next Thursday. What do I expect from this? Are you still doing well?

    Thanks,

    Cheryl

  4. Are you sticking to your diet? I am doing very well. I hope I added you correctly. Let me know if it did not work.

  5. I am right around your age. Did you have any problems because of being older in the surgery? I will be 56 October 15th. Surgery October 8th. Any kind of suggestions?

  6. Do you have sleep apnea? That happens to me everytime I have surgery. That scares me worse than the surgery itself.

  7. Hi Susan,

I am also 55 years old and getting very close to surgery. I go this Friday for my cardiac testing. I have already went to the all day testing. They will fax all my information into the insurance company next week and then set me up to see the surgeon. What happens next? They seem to think that my surgery will be the 1st or 2nd week of October. Do you know how long it is until you can lift anything after surgery?

How hard has it been for you? Are you still glad you did this?

  8. Go ahead and get started with a supervised diet and go to appointments. If you do have to have the documentation you will have already started and won't have as long to wait. If you don't at least you can already have a doctor ready to refer you for this surgery.

  9. I was also enjoying those stories and cannot find them now.

  10. When are you suppose to go on a diet before surgery and what kind did you use? Was it hard to stick to it? That is what people said to me if you can lose on your own why do you want to have surgery? How much do you need to lose. I told my doctor last month how my children was scared for me to have surgery and I told him they don't understand with my severe sleep apnea I could not wake up any morning but he looked at me and said, "Cheryl, your weight will kill you first". That is scary and an eye opener. Have you heard of anyone not making it through lapband surgery? I know the gastric bypass is dangerous. Does this surgery make you not feel hungry? So many questions I just need motivated back again to be excited about this. Thanks for replying!

  11. How are you doing? I noticed your surgery was August 1st. I hope you are doing ok. I will be going to my fifth month supervision dieting on Aug, 20th. I have only lost 8 lbs but hey that is why I am looking to having the lapband. I need help. But, my problem is my children are totally against this surgery. People keep telling me how dangerous it is and how I can just diet and excersise and do the same thing. I get excited and then I decide I won't do this. I am so confused. Are you still happy you did this? Please help me with my confusion. AFter the next appt I am suppose to call the bariatrics office and start setting up my test.

    Thanks,

    Cheryl

  12. I am looking forward to this band. I am getting ready for my fourth doctors visit for insurance purposes. Meanwhile I have found out today I have low B12 and iron. I am already taking 50,000 units of Vitamin D every week. I have sjogrens syndrome and I take plaquenel I wonder if that can cause the deficiencies. Oh well, I figure this will delay my lapband. Pray everything is ok and I can continue with the lapband.

  13. Hello Kat,

I have been reading alot of your posts and you seem to have a great sense of understanding this lap band thing. I am like alot of the others looking forward to this and afraid too. I always seem to look at the bad side affects to things. I first started checking this out last year and scared myself away. Since then I have gained another 10 lbs. I am 55 years old and have severe sleep apnea, high cholestrol and high blood pressure but never diagnosed by family doctor. I am so miserable I just don't think I can do this anymore on my own. Each time I go on a diet and fail I get more depressed. Humana requires me to go on a 6 month supervised diet before they will approve this. My fear is that I will give up by then. My first appt with doctor is Monday. Bariatrics said they will wait until August and start doing test such as stress, echo, pulmonary functions etc. Any others that you had? I will try to stay active on this site to keep myself motivated and hopefully not too many negative things will be posted. Reading your post has helped me alot.

    Thank you,

  14. Did you ever find out what happened to you? Let us know how you are doing now.

  15. How long did you have to wait to get your lap band? The wait is so hard because I want to go ahead and do this while I am in this set of mind. I start thinking and change my mind all the time on things. I really want to do this but when I see something bad it makes my mind wonder. Did you have any problems?

  16. Hi,

My name is Cheryl and I am 55 years old. I have been thinking about lap band for awhile now. This is the first time I have attended a seminar and actually sent in the packet of information. My insurance requires me to be monitored by my doctor or diet for 6 months. I have severe sleep apnea which is the number reason I want to do this other than I am miserable with my weight and cannot lose. I feel like such a failure. I have been heavy for 24 years and getting bigger every year. My question is after you start losing do you have a lot of flab hanging or is it a given that after you get older you have to have this removed? I have alot of fat in the abdomen area and affecting my breathing. Anyway is there some information you could give me while waiting 6 months not to get depressed and give up.

    Thanks for listening.

    Cheryl

  17. Are you doing alright now? I am just now considering the band. Are you totally against it or did you just have a bad experience where you had it done? Please enlighten me on the process.

    Thanks,

    Cheryl
