  1. Whether or not we lose fast in our fifties we will have all that loose skin and that is what I dread. Plus, people tell me I don't look my age and losing weight will age me but I want to be healthy and that is a small price to pay. I have a friend who had the lapband in February and she is in her forties. She has lost 65 lbs and her cholestrol has gone from 261 to normal. Her doctor took her off her medicine she had been taking for 10 years and she feels great. I can't wait! Cheryl

    More than one procedure

Just curious to why you would want your tubes tied so young. Do you already have children? But as far as your question I don't believe any doctor would opt for that. That would involve two different types of surgeons and the hospital would want to have money for two times. I may be wrong but I don't think so because its all about how much money they can get from us. Cheryl
  3. Does it have to be the same doctor? I went to my gynecologist in March and we discussed my weight and lap band. He said he would send me a support letter. It was in his chart that he had spoken to me. I wonder if Humana would consider that one appointment and then I started in April and had appointments in May, June with my primary doctor. I have another appointment July 25th. My BMI is 46.9 how long does it take to get approved? I just want to get this lapband started and be healthy. When is your surgery? I have also chosen your doctors. Do you see both of them? I will be going to Central Baptist. Cheryl
  4. I am so glad to hear the news. I have been worried that they will want more than the doctor's weigh in and notes. Kings Daughters told me that Humana requires you to see a dietician every month too. Where are you having your surgery and who is your surgeon? I had my third visit yesterday and remembered that I went to my gynecologist in March and we talked about weight and lapband. He was all for it and had written notes on it on his chart. I think I will be able to count him too which will make it four visits. At any rate they told me after I have my fifth visit and schedule my sixth appointment they will schedule me to see the surgeon and have my psych, labs, etc. I will also have to have a cardiac check up because I have severe sleep apnea. What kind of test did they do on your heart? I am 55 years old. Did you have to have a pulmunary function test? Cheryl

    Hate Jumping Through Hoops

Do you have Humana? I have read that you don't have to lose a significant amount of weight they just are interested in the physician documentation that you have gone there and recorded your weight and been discussing weight loss and exercise. Who knows I think they are just assuming that alot of people will just give up and they won't have to fool with them. Cheryl
  6. I also work for the state with the board of education in Kentucky. That is what Central Baptist bariatrics says. The Primary care physican talking to you and weighing you every month for 6. Ashland Kings Daughters says you have to see a dietician every month too. I called Georgetown to ask this lady I have been speaking with and she said no all I had to do was see my physician six times. Cheryl

How much longer do you have?

I have a question. I have Humana insurance. I have spoken to two Bariatric offices and one says I have to see my PC doctor for six months talking about dieting and weighing me. Then I will see a dietician, psychologist, at the fifth month. The other office says I am suppose to be seeing my PC doctor and a dietician every month. I hope they haven't done this wrong and I have to start all over again. I am going with the one in Central Kentucky who says I only need to see the doctor for six months and the dietician once. Cheryl
  8. Yes, I have a daughter and son who keep reminding me of the dangers of this surgery and can't understand why I can't just exercise and diet. The oldest daughter is all for me having this surgery. It makes it hard when everyone isn't backing your decision. Cheryl

    Oh....excuse me!

How long does it take for this insurance company to approve someone after the 6 month supervision dieting and all the testing? Cheryl

    It's Done!! I'm Banded

I am concerned about my cousin who had the lapband surgery Tuesday, June 10th. She is still in the hospital due to being nauseated. Did any of you experience this problem? I am doing the six month diet for insurance purposes and will probably be having my surgery in the fall. I am getting a little aprehensive now. Cheryl

    Post-Surgery Check-In

What is the deal with the pain in the shoulder? Does the doctors have a reason for this problem?

    why are people such HATERS!!!!???

You are so lucky to being able to get this done so soon. How long have you waited? What kind of pre op testing have you had done? I am in my second month with my six month diet for insurance purposes. They say that in my fifth month I will have ekg, echo, stress test, pulmonary functions testing, psych, and dietician. I will be checking for your reply. Cheryl

    why are people such HATERS!!!!???

I have bounced around with wanting to get the lap band for a year now. Everytime someone tells me something negative I forget about it for awhile. This is the first time I have went to the doctor and told him about it and trying to get through six months of recorded dieting for my insurance purposes. I have two doctors who have told me the lap band is not as good as gastric bypass. People don't do well with the lap band and then I get on this site and I see other views. I don't want to do the gastric because it is more dangerous and non reversible. So I have made my mind up I am with you guys and I will show them all. Cheryl

    Nervous..Nervous...Nervou s

misprague1017 Stop worrying about little things. I am sure your husband will be fine he needs to learn how to take care of himself and the house. This is the best thing for him. You need to focus on yourself. Be prepared for what lies ahead for you. If you are going to walk around and worry about everything then you will not be able to give this your all. Remember this is only a tool. Just go tomorrow morning optimistic trusting that God will be with you and everything will be good. Say a prayer and everything will be taken care of and you can start your journey to a wonderful life of being healthy and happy. Good Luck! Cheryl:smile:
  16. I am sorry to say that I spoke with Humana about three months ago and they told me that if I didn't have six consecutive months that I would have to start over. So regardless to who the fault is I don't think they care. They also told me that whenever I get my six months in that it would be good for three years. In case for some reason I changed my mind on the surgery. I also work for Kentucky State Board of Education. You need to call them yourself and verify this information and make sure they told me the same thing as you. They just keep changing the regulations on this surgery.

Just have to celebrate 100 pounds gone!!!

People like you are so motivational for me. I have a doctor who is trying to discourage me from getting the band because he says it is not very successful. He wants me to have the gastric bypass. I believe if I go this far that I will be able to lose with the band. Thanks, Cheryl

    What's on your Playlist?

Do you still recommend the lap band? How much have you lost and how long has it taken to do so? Cheryl
  19. Do you work for the state? I also have Humana and am looking forward in getting the lapband at Central Baptist by the same doctor. I have to wait 6 months. Good Luck and please keep me posted. Cheryl
  20. Hello Kat,

I have been reading alot of your posts and you seem to have a great sense of understanding this lap band thing. I am like alot of the others looking forward to this and afraid too. I always seem to look at the bad side affects to things. I first started checking this out last year and scared myself away. Since then I have gained another 10 lbs. I am 55 years old and have severe sleep apnea, high cholestrol and high blood pressure but never diagnosed by family doctor. I am so miserable I just don't think I can do this anymore on my own. Each time I go on a diet and fail I get more depressed. Humana requires me to go on a 6 month supervised diet before they will approve this. My fear is that I will give up by then. My first appt with doctor is Monday. Bariatrics said they will wait until August and start doing test such as stress, echo, pulmonary functions etc. Any others that you had? I will try to stay active on this site to keep myself motivated and hopefully not too many negative things will be posted. Reading your post has helped me alot.

    Thank you,

    Made THE Decision

Mattie, I believe once you start losing weight the pain will subside some. Anyway, you just have to push yourself. My mother has RA, polymyalgia rhuematica, temporal arteritis and fibromyalgia. She pushes herself everyday. She has a cane, crutch, walker, electric wheelchair and regular wheelchair. She has her ok days and her terrible days. Most the time she will not even use the cane. She amazes me no matter how much pain she is in she keeps going. Works until she can't anymore and just increases her pain meds. She doesn't have a weight problem thank God. I just want to learn from her and my Dad. My Dad just had 5 stents in his heart two months ago and he is already in the garden picking up rocks and trying to get ready to plant his garden. If only I had that motivation. That probably is why I am 120 pounds overweight now. I really want this band so I can began to live again. I am in pain now and can barely walk sometimes. My hips are so sore it is pitiful. I still hold down a full-time job but it affects every part of my life. I have no energy because I have severe obstructive sleep apnea and always sleepy and this stops your metabolism. So good luck and just pray about it and move on don't let anything stop you from helping yourself. You know anything will be better than what you are doing now. Cheryl

    Tell me a story...

Hope this isn't being too nosey but I was just wondering who Ambyr is? Hope I didn't hurt your feelings by asking. Tell me how you have been and a little about your story. Thanks! Cheryl
  24. How long did you have to wait to get your lap band? The wait is so hard because I want to go ahead and do this while I am in this set of mind. I start thinking and change my mind all the time on things. I really want to do this but when I see something bad it makes my mind wonder. Did you have any problems?
