Best and worst reactions to telling people you were banded?
HeatherGurl replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When someone asks me how I lost so much weight, I tell them that I am eating a lot less, cutting out sugar, and I joined a gym. No lies there. If someone were to actually come out and say "Did you have surgery?", I think that I am at the point now that I could tell them. I haven't specifically told anyone "No, I didn't have surgery." It really helps that my mom has lost about 100 lbs in the past 3 years, so everyone thinks I am doing what she did. No one in my small town even thinks about WLS. -
Beaten bloody,last night.

Those pics are horrible... Hope you are feeling better today. -
cute Betty Boop! Today I plan on taking a 30 minute walk when I get off of work. If DH isn't home to stay with DD, then I will do Tae Bo or Slim in 6 DVD... along with 500 crunches.

The only people that were supportive were people here at work that have had it done. My DH was also, after he knew how bad I wanted it. No one else was supportive. I still think my mom doesn't like the idea... -

I SERIOUSLY doubt P'Nut is an alcoholic... sounds to me like she is just having fun! -
My surgeon recommended not swallowing anything larger than a Birth Control pill. He said to get everything in liquid or chewable form. My PCP absolutely doesn't want me crushing pills or even breaking them in half. He says you aren't really getting the full amounts if you do that...

Well all I can say is I have lost more than my friend who had bypass 6 months before me.... so the comment of bypass patients lose faster than banded just isn't a fact at all. The majority might, but there are tons of us that have lost close to 100 lbs in less than a year. If bypass was my ONLY option, I would have done it. Thank God I didn't. I absolutely love my band. We get along great. Now that I have lost 90 lbs, I am wanting to eat healthier and exercise, I just love it. My opinion with the band though are these: 1. Aftercare (fills) is a MUST. 2. EXERCISE is a MUST. (we ALL need it to be healthy) 3. Water is a MUST. 4. Your compliance and not trying to eat around the band is a must. Basically, not all people are cut out for the band. My DH would be a better bypass candidate, just because I don't think he could do what I do. Good Luck to you and I hope you do your research and do not let the Dr. sway your decision. EDIT******* My brother in law works with a girl that had bypass and I saw her the other day... She used to be over 300 lbs and now I doubt she weighs 130lbs on her 5'-9" large frame. She looks horrible, feels horrible and she can not stop losing weight. They do not know what is wrong with her. She is the #1 reason I am THANKFUL I didn't have the bypass. That doesn't happen to everyone, but she scares me now!

I am truly sorry that this happened to you! I know how it feels, not with a roller coaster, but with the seat on a plane. My one and only time to ride a plane, I BARELY fit. I pretended the seat belt closed, but it didn't. Thank goodness I was sitting next to my toothpick cousin. It was HORRIBLE still. There are thousands of things I have never done because I was afraid I wouldn't fit or break things... Still think that now and my hubby and friend's look at me like I am crazy, but when you are cautious for 24 years, you don't just think it is ok the next day. Next summer they won't be able to keep you off that ride! Good Luck!

Wow, they are all dressed up!

Reading your last post Diane has gotten me thinking also. I only have 40 more pounds to lose! I want it gone before Christmas... I am up off my butt too! You can do this, we can do this! I have sworn off the sugar and I will start going to the gym more often! I am really increasing my cardio too.

Jacqui~ The only reason that I have energy at 5AM is because I wake up at 3:30AM and have an hour's drive to work... There is NO way I could pop right up outta bed and start working out

I work out from about 5AM to 6AM... Eat breakfast around 8 or 9. It is working well for me
