  1. Thanks Marimaru!

But I am curious. If you arent hungry when your stomach is growling...how do you know you are hungry?

I guess with the "full" feeling I was trying to make a point that "full" doesn't necessaily mean that you are stuffed to the gills. "Full" can simply mean I am done eating. I am not hungry anymore.

When my 10 year old daughter says she is full, she isn't by any means stuffed. She is just not hungry anymore.

I guess my concern is going to be that since I will be eating less, my metabolism will most likely slow down. Hopefully exercise can help that. But I am cautious of the game...But it will be one that I will have to play I suppose!

  2. Jack,

    1) Describe in your own words, what "hunger" is: I am hungry when my stomach growls.

    2) Describe in your own words, what being "full" is: I am "full" when I am no longer hungry

    3) Describe what your idea of 'weight loss' is: Losing weigh through diet and exercise

    4) Describe what the purpose of "eating" really is: To live. Thanks.

    5) What correlation do you see between eating and metabolic rate?

What Is Metabolism and What Does It Do?

Metabolism (pronounced: muh-tah-buh-lih-zum) is a collection of chemical reactions that takes place in the body's cells to convert the fuel in the food we eat into the energy needed to power everything we do, from moving to thinking to growing.

I guess I dont understand that last question of yours...

  3. I have a question for all you pros. How does the lap band not effect your metabolism? I went on WW a few years back and lost about 90 lbs. WOO HOO for me! However, my metabolism died and anytime I ate more than 1200 calories I gained like crazy. Exercise didnt seem to help--it only made me more hungry!

I know we've all been through all this up and down stuff. But I am wondering how the lap band effects our metabolism. Basically we are starviing ourselves, no?

And this is going to make you all roll on the floor...but doesn't the bigger part of our stomach ever get hungry? I know I should know about this but I couldnt find anything in my materials!!

    Thanks in advance!

  4. I am looking at a June surgery date. One thing though...my clinic has not told me if I will have to pay anything! I know my insurance is 80/20 after my 2k deductible...but I am gonna need to know when I will need to pay this and at the end, how much?

    How does this all work?

  5. Hi all,

I just scheduled all my appointments for my dietician and psych. All in all, I have to be seen 7 times before I can submit to Medica! Crazy. And all along with a hefty $45 copay!

Anyone know when they will tell me what I have to pay? I have 80/20, so it isnt all covered. but i would like to know what to expect!

    THanks!

  6. I am just starting all this! I went to a seminar at Unity and then 2 weeks ago I met with a nurse...apparently I need to gain 10 more lbs before my insurance will accept me. I have medica. Nice to see some Minnesota people on here, and you all are doing great!

My best friend had RNY with Dr. Lederer about 5 years back, she loved him!

  7. They also told me that I am not fat enough to get approved. I am 253lbs, BMI was 38.6!! But the nurse pretty much said gain 10 more and you will be fine. SO here I am trying to gain 10 lbs. You'd think it would be easy...lol

So hopefully after I get 10 more frikin pounds on they can get things going for me.

Good luck to you. Maybe you can just gain a few more pounds and take the suggestions here? The squeaky wheel really does get the grease!!

  8. I would be crushed if my DF (fiance) did not support me!! He's the only one I am telling! I mentioned to my SIL that I was thinking about it and she went off about why I shouldnt. We've also been FAT together for 10 years. I lost weight about 7 years ago, 90lbs to be exact, and she got mad. Now she loves me again! lol.

I dont want to tell anyone I am doing this. Just DF and that is it. He even has a 10 year old who has been living with us for 9 years...I dont want her to know either!

MY decision, and I don't really need anyone butting in. You know?

ALSO. I went in 2 weeks ago for my eval. My BMI was only 38.6. they told me I needed to gain 10 more lbs and then my insurance would pay. So I am currently doing that....Apparently I am not fat enough at 253 lbs. and a size 20!!!

  9. I am looking into banding through the Unity Hospital Bariatric program (Fridley) with either Dr. Jeffrey Baker or Dr. Frederick Johnson. I do think the overall program leans toward RNY more than banding based on the seminar I attended yesterday, but I will still continue pursuing banding as I think it's a better option for me.

At any rate, the nurse running the seminar said they have had no deaths in their lap band patients and they're also a Center of Excellence. I guess that means a high volume and certain other standards. They have pretty good statistics from what I have read, and happy patients, so that is encouraging to me.

    Rainy,

I am also going ot Unity. Everyone there seems nice. I had my first appt. on 1/14 and they told me I need to gain 10 more lbs. to get Medica to pay. So I am doing that now. It's harder than you think!!!

What do you have for insurance?
