    Jan 2019 bypass buddies

I am SO glad I met you here! We're literally in the same kind of boat We definitely need to keep in touch. It's awesome to hear that diet consults are no longer required for your BC plan! Do you remember where on their website you found that or did you have to call? Only thing I wish they had was online chat. UnitedHealthcare had great support chat, but that was about it LOL My new insurance plan is through Anthem Blue Cross. I'm in Texas, but my company is based out of California so we get the same coverage that they do. Even though I can't log in to the Anthem BC site yet, I have my entire plan's documents and not one thing about dietary evaluations is being mentioned as a requirement for approval. Not even in the EOC which is the most detailed document of all. Only requirements mentioned in the EOC are these (see screenshot below)...this is the full section on anything Bariatric Surgery under "Covered Services" in the entire 191 page document. There's some stuff scattered elsewhere regarding the required type of bariatric surgery facilities and travel coverage for bariatric services, but nothing else for the surgery requirements itself. Next section is Transgender Services, which awesomely, are covered. This policy is beyond generous. Thoughts?

    Jan 2019 bypass buddies

Nice to meet you too! I see my surgeon for the first time on Monday 12/03. My new insurance that covers bariatric won't go into effect until 01/01/19 so depending on if I need nutrition visits or not, January would be the soonest I could have surgery. I think that's too quick though. Won't truly know until my plan enrollment is complete and the surgeon can run the claim (or whatever they call it LOL) to find out the minute details. I've been part of this forum for 10 years, back when it was still called LapBandTalk so being able to FINALLY do this surgery is a long time comin'! πŸ’“

    Your Teeth After Surgery

Awesome...this is all good to hear. Oral hygiene and health has always been a HUGE deal to me. Team Sonicare for years. The DiamondClean toothbrush has amazed my dentist. He's like "Holy cow, what kind of toothbrush are you using?!" Thanks for all the input, folks!

What’s the skinny on β€œexcessively malodorous flatulence”?

Ok, bypass people...I’m reading a lot lately and have found quite a bit of info out there suggesting that bypass, for some people, causes pretty catastrophic, uncontrollable, very smelly gas. Anyone wish to enlighten us on this? I haven’t had surgery yet, but the thought of sitting in my own fart cloud all day or having one squeak out in the middle of a department meeting is not my idea of a good time...😟 Here’s one I just read: https://www.obesityaction.org/community/article-library/pull-my-finger-a-mostly-polite-look-at-intestinal-gas-for-post-weight-loss-surgery-patients/

    Nexium vs. Prilosec

I haven't had surgery yet, however, I have chronic indigestion/heartburn. This scares me after reading so many people experience ulcers after surgery. I'm almost worried I might already have one. So far, all I take are Zantac 150 or Tagamet, which as of recently has become almost a daily necessity. I know I should consult my doctor (which will be happening on 12/03), but what are ya'lls personal experiences with either Nexium or Prilosec as far as efficacy?

Whooshes and Stalls - Why weight loss isn't linear

In the keto world where I come from, just like here, folks are plagued with the dreaded "stalls" then like magic, the scales begin to move again in the desired direction. I'm surprised I've never heard the topic of the "whoosh effect" discussed in here. For the sake of not writing a novel, I'll provide infographics and some helpful links to read for those interested. I'm not here to argue about the validity of this concept so please, if you don't agree, feel free to leave adult-worthy, constructive feedback or just scroll on by. I personally have experienced several "whooshes" over the course of the past year and half, so if anything, this stuff makes sense. What's a Whoosh? Have you stalled for 2-3 weeks or even gained a few extra pounds, then wake up the next morning to see the number on the scale drop considerably? The "whoosh effect" is essentially the period of time during a "diet" when fat loss becomes noticeable and the graphic below shows why. Google has a ton of references on this. This link explains things on an easy to understand, high level https://mysugarfreejourney.com/keto-questions-what-is-the-whoosh-effect/ Also, this lovely lady does an excellent job at explaining the "whoosh effect" in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xF3rmi4DJAw P.S. Just ignore the keto aspect of things. Fat loss happens the same way for everyone no matter how you're losing it...unless you get lipo and that's a whole 'nother thing LOL

    Let's talk about panties!

Nice thing about LB is you can buy online and return in the store if anything doesn't fit. Just keep all the tags on and the plastic baggies they ship each pair of undies in. If you go in the store you may have more selection like if they have a bin of stuff on clearance or something. Always treasures to be found at LB My entire adult life I've bought no where else other than this store simply because their stuff just fits perfectly, no matter how lumpy I've been LOLOL Their bras too. OMG if they ever go out of business before I die, I'll never wear another bra again

    Let's talk about panties!

Lane Bryant has a fantastic selection of Cacique undies, especially if you catch a 5 for $35 sale. I believe their smallest size is 14/16, but depending on the cut/style, true fit can vary. I have some 14/16 hipster style briefs and they are pretty small and don't hold everything in like I want. My favorite of theirs are any of the full-brief with a thick waist elastic. Their undies literally last forever and if you can get lucky enough to find any silky stretchy fabric briefs, those let your clothes slide on easily while keeping all the extra stuff well tucked in. Love them! Here's a couple links (click the pic) :

    Nexium vs. Prilosec

Wowwww, weird coincidence! My daughter takes Vyvanse. Ya know, I bet there is something to that. I took the immediate release Adderall tablets. It was like a firey pit of hell in my guts about 30min after taking it so I'd usually take a Zantac along with it to avoid the burn. I long for a day without this BS. Sure hope you get rid of that ulcer! Thanks for being so sweet

How exactly does bypass change your fat metabolism?

    Nexium vs. Prilosec

Thanks so much for that info! Yeah I'm not sure why I always have heartburn. It doesn't seem to be triggered by any specific food, it's just always there, usually in the morning. There's no pain, just a constant uncomfortable burning sensation that's remedied within a few minutes of taking Zantac or Tagamet. For many many years I took Adderall for ADHD and stopped it back in January of this year. It made the heartburn worse. I also take Advil liqui-gels almost every day because I wake up with headaches...surely that doesn't help, but I have to take something. I feel for you guys though. The first time I read of those marginal ulcers, amongst others, it started worrying me. As often as I read about it in here, it seems way more common that 16%, but that could just be my narrow perspective. I was just hoping I could stave off ulcers by starting a PPI since it seems like I do have some sort of excessive stomach acid issue. Just need my doctor's appointment to hurry up and get here. I have so many stinkin' questions for him.

How exactly does bypass change your fat metabolism?

Very awesome! I'm glad to hear that your health had been affected in a positive way so quickly! Metabolic and thyroid disorders are complex. The longer the damage persists, the longer it takes to heal. Hopefully with time, you'll see some positive change in your thyroid function. Keep us posted! πŸ’“ I found the official study that article was based on https://www.cell.com/cell-reports/fulltext/S2211-1247(13)00125-3

How exactly does bypass change your fat metabolism?

Right, I haven't seen this topic addressed in the forums which is why I bring it up. I'm very surprised it has not been talked about. I read A LOT...here's a website I read this morning that sparked my question. It's kind of high level and doesn't get too deep, but it talks about a change in genetic expression in bypass patients, specifically in markers of 2 genes that control glucose and fat metabolism, PGC-1 alpha and PDK4. Extremely interesting, short read that I'll be looking into deeper before I see my surgeon for the 1st time in a couple weeks. Check it out! http://www.thedoctorwillseeyounow.com/content/diabetes/art4005.html

Can I Delete An Unused BP Profile?

Before I realized this forum used to be LapBandTalk which I was a member of 10+yrs ago, I created another profile here. I need to delete it so I can free up my current email address and add it to this profile. Can someone help me with that? I don't see the option to do it myself.

    30 second elevator interview

Hiyo! I'm Kim. 38 years young, single mom of 2 in Texas. I found this forum back in 2008 when it was still LapBandTalk. Since then I've been waiting for the opportunity to have surgery covered by insurance...fast forward to 2018 and that time has finally come! I work in the software industry focusing on secure enterprise and personal mobility. Our apps and hardware are used by 100's of thousands of US military, DoD and government members. I love weird birds, the 90's, the smell of Home Depot and severe thunderstorms

Just got bumped up to solids!

You made a valid point about the paper tracking. I've used apps for so long, but I think being able to hand the doctor something tangible is probably a headache saver for everyone. I'll still use my app to calculate all my macros and whatnot. I just picked this up on Amazon https://amzn.to/2BgLSw4 Thanks for the idea!
