  1. Hahaha my thought exactly. I love the 4th of July so much. So this year in my mind, the Fireworks are going to be in celebration of my life changing! I am getting so excited for the surgery and a little nervous for the post-op. I want so badly to succeed at weightloss this time!

Well we will be in it together!

That is exactly what I told my husband!! We always host a very large party and he asked if I thought it would be too much with surgery the next day.... I said, "Heck no it isn't, I am celebrating my life changing!" I nervous for surgery but, excited for my new life of a healthier me!!

Great minds think so much alike. Can I private message you and maybe we can keep in contact more directly since we are going to be surgery day buddies!

  2. Uh yeah I'm nervous! Lol. And maybe my research hasn't been thorough because I thought the sleeve was less invasive. I'm praying I have no complications such as leakage. I'm scared of bypass of the rerouting and my surgeon talked so bad about the bypass and said he really won't do them because of possible complications. So I can say my surgeon scared me from bypass whether what he Said was true or not. Idk. Can you share some of your knowledge with me about the sleeve being not like you thought ? Don't scare me too much lol.

    Hi Miss B!

From all the research I have done and from what 2 surgeons have told me they have basically the same risk in all the documents I have read. Malnutrition is higher in GB but, if you eat right and tske your Vitamins that is not a problem. With the sleeve it is pretty common to get gerd so, if you have ingestion ever... both surgeons told me I would more then likely end up with it. GB you lose more weight. Both surgeons told me people get so concerned about having their intestines rerouted but, they never think about the fact that the other part of their stomach is being removed completely from their body to never be used ever again even in an emergency... with GB you can have a feeding tube insterted into the other part of your stomach.

If you surgeon worries about complications with GB, I would be a bit concerned about your surgeons rates.... his/her death rates, complication rates etc. The surgeon I ultimately chose has had no deaths (knock on wood), and has had 3 people out of over 1700 with complications to any of his clients. I feel very lucky I ended up finding him.

Ultimately, the deciding factor was keeping the part of my stomach for emergencies should they arise. The complications are soooo similar!

It'll be fun to keep in touch on this wonderful venture in life we are about to do!!

  6. Maybe she meant 30grams in one meal? I've seen post on here that say the body can only absorbs 30 grams of Protein at a time...I guess being a teacher I'm more conscious of communication, when people are giving direction they should be crystal clear...

"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them"

No, my plan actually says 30 grams on paper per day. ????

  7. Hello. My surgery is much later. July 27th but I am having the sleeve. What made you decide to have the RNY and are you nervous?

Hello! I decided to have RNY because the risk of leakage is less. I also decided on it because I will still have the other part of my stomach if for some reason I have pouch problems and need to "rest" my pouch for healing, they can give me a feeding tube in the "extra" part of my stomach that is hanging out. Lol I orginally chose the sleeve surgery because I thought it was less invasive... after much research I know that is not the case. ????

I am getting nervous, I have a blood clotting disorder and I am worried about blood clots.

What made you decide on the sleeve? Are you nervous?

  8. Thank you @ & @@KristenLe

Kristen, that is what I thought as well. It is post op.... She said they have found out that the body does just fine on 30 grams and that is all it needs. I am not sure who "they" are though... My Drs office or some study. I haven't ever read on here anyone who does just 30 grams. I am a big worried about it. ????

  9. Hello! I am scheduled for surgery July 5th. I met with my dietician yesterday and she gave me the pre and post-op diet plans. I am sooo confused because so many on her talk about 2 week liquid diet pre-op... My Dr only requires 3 days. Has anyone else only had 3 day pre-op diet?

Also, from what I have read... you should intake 60-100 grams of Protein a day... my dietician says you only need 30 grams per day. What does intaking more Protein do for you?

Thank you for any advice or comments. :-)

  10. @ Not to be a butt..., but are they the only game in town? Please don't give up on your self.... Keep on them. I was lucky with my old insurance.... it seems like they would be more pro-WLS than paying for all the WL related problems... it's crazy too me.

Don't give up on yourself.... you are worth the fight

I am looking into another surgery center now.... I followed their diet for a month and gained 4lbs... their doctor's response... It's ok 4lbs is nothing in the grand scheme of things, you will lose everything you gain once you have surgery. I responded with, sure no big deal to you but... every pound I gain puts me closer to brain surgery and blindness! She said not to worry... not exactly the kind of doctor I want to go to.

Wow I hope bcbs listens to your doctors... Because they are paying for surgery either way and WLS sounds like win win for both of you. Best of luck and prayers for a quick answer.

Thank you so much! Now BCBS is saying they will cover it early but.... the doctor's office is not wanting to do it early. I am switching centers!

  11. @@Inner Surfer Girl I am waiting for BCBS to let me know how many appeals there can be... my biggest fear is submitting it... getting denied, appealing with peer to peer review, getting denied and then not having another chance to appeal after having my brain surgeries. I told my bariatric doctor today that after having 2 brain surgeries, I just do not know if i will have the drive to have another surgery. I am thinking it is safer to have the brain surgeries, follow the 6 month diet, and then decide if I can handle another surgery. It is frustrating that a less invasive, cheaper surgery could cure me but, insurance would much rather cover not one but 2 brain surgeries, and WLS. It just doesn't, make since at all.

  12. @@bayougirlmrsc I am well over the 40 BMI requirement... 58 right now. I spoke with my Dr at the bariatric clinic and it doesn't seem like they will even speak with my neuro and nuerosurgeon and go ahead and submit for early surgery... I think it is because, I am going to their dietician monthly and their dietician doctor monthly... They are making $400 a month off of me for the next 6 months out of my pocket because insurance doesn't cover the pre-op diet.

  13. @ Have you done any other WL program like WW or dr. regulated diet? I was able to get my done with the history from WW, Gyn, and GP. I went to them and got all my weights. This showed the losses and gains over the years. Not saying is your answer... but it maybe something to look into just in case.

    Good luck

Thank you for your reply! Yes, I have done WW a couple years ago and I log on fitbit now. I have been following the Paleo diet. I called and mentioned the fitbit log and WW to my nurse advocate with BCBS. He is supposed to call me back by this afternoon with an answer. Thank you so much!!

  14. Is the timer on the Bariatric Pal app or the Baritastic app? I have the BP app, and it's not on that.
I use the bariatric pal app... it has a chewing timer! It also has an alarm for when it is time to eat and drink![/quoteI have the app where can I find it!
When you first open the app, it is on the bottom right in blue. It says timer... once you select it, you can choose what you want timed.
I don't have it in my app.
Do you have the Baritastic app or the bariatricpal downloaded? I have the Baritastic app and it is on there.
    I do.

it is on the baritastic app. I am so sorry for all the confusion!!
