Well, I did it! I finally did it! I signed up for my first triathlon! Walking/running, biking and swimming have always been my favorite activities, mostly because I didn't have to be overly coordinated to be successful. (I played volleyball, basketball, softball, etc. as a kid, but was terrible.) Because I like all three activities, I have many times thought I would like to try a tri, but knew I wasn't ready for a full tri.
One of the women in my WLS support group asked me to try a super-sprint tri with her in August. So today I bit the bullet and paid the fee and I am signed up! For those like me who don't know, a super sprint tri is 200 yards swimming, 7.5 miles biking, and 1 mile run. I figure that should be enough to wear me out but good! I start swimming tonight.
Right now 200 yards is quite a ways, but add in open Water and I don't think I'd have a chance. I am a slow but very competent swimmer so the chance of drowning is probably minimal, at least by race time in August. I am hoping with time to train that I might even be able to be competitive!
By the time of the race, I will be just under 9 months post-op and will have RUN 3 5Ks. I start serious training after my next 5K on April 9th, but I start swimming again tonight - need to see what I can do to build some endurance already.
Anyone else out there done a triathlon? Words of wisdom? Wish me luck!

MissMagpie reacted to Craig Wildi in Two months post surgery
Yesterday was the 2 month anniversary of my GSV surgery. I felt like sharing that I was at 58 pounds of weight loss yesterday, 59 pounds as of today! I had set a goal of reaching the 60 pound mark by 2 months, and for all intents and purposes, met my goal. Close enough, anyway! It is easy to stay focused and motivated when I see this kind of result. I have had my plateaus, which everyone knows how aggravating they are, but have managed great weight loss, with a lot of gym time and power walking!
    Here's to the next 60!

MissMagpie got a reaction from animallover1247 in PLEASE someone tell me how long this nausea lasts....
    Hi animal lover,
I personally only experienced nausea in hospital after my surgery and thats it. I am 25 days out. I have experienced a bit of heartburn and an "uncomfortable" feeling when I have eaten something that doesnt agree with me or eaten more than I should have but not to the point of wanting to vomit.
    Definately contact your surgeon.
    Hope it resolves soon.

MissMagpie got a reaction from CurvyCooper in ~2 Week Liquid Diet~
I started my Optisfast 2 week diet on Friday and the first few days were VERY hard!!! I got lots of headaches and felt tired. Today is day 3 and after a big sleep in, Im not feeling too bad.
Im allowed to replace 1 Optifast meal for a "real meal" which consists of a palm-size piece of meat or 2 small eggs together with the required 2 cups of low starch vegetables with it (and 2 cups of veggies) with lunch.
I picked up a cookbook from my clinic that has recipes for each "phase" you go through so have made a lovely mixed vegetable Soup and a vegetable curry that has been a nice addition to the Optifast shakes. I also added some vanilla essence to the shakes to make them a bit more "palatable"..lol
I know that alot of pre-op diets vary depending on their surgeon but thats what Im allowed.
Hope that helps and good luck
