Blue Cross Federal
I'm curious about this as well. I called them and was told they usually make a decision within five business days so we'll see. I got two different answers from two people as to whether if I lost too much on my pre op supervised three month diet it would be considered as ineffective. One said it might and the other said as long as my weight loss didn't bring my BMI down below the cutoff I was fine. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What Fitness Tracker do you use?
I have a Fitbit HR which I got for the heart rate monitor but for years I used an Omron clip on which was really accurate. I don't recall the model number but at the time it was listed as the most accurate by Consumer Reports. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What are your favorite exercise videos?
I like Jane Fonda's favorite fat burners ,low impact, and step aerobics. They are dancy (is that a word?) and easy to follow Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Getting depressed before surgery
Maybe I'm just burnt out from all the research or frustrated with all the waiting (my insurance requirements were met in mid- Feb and I'm still waiting) but I'm really feeling down. I'm struggling to get going with an exercise program and sticking to a low carb diet and am afraid I will gain back everything I've lost if they don't put me on the pre-op diet soon (it was postponed until we can set a date for surgery). Then again maybe I just love food too much and am scared of losing it. Is this normal to feel this way? I hear/read about people who are so excited to have surgery. That's not me. I'm dreading some of the possible complications/outcomes even though I know it's my best chance for a healthier, happier life. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Tell me a story about your long preop process?
Thanks for sharing this -I've been feeling really frustrated about the lengthy process. I finished my insurance requirements in mid Febr but my surgeon ordered more tests. I got the test results and signed the final paperwork ten days ago. They still haven't submitted it to my insurance because the doc who did the tests apparently won't return her call (or mine either) with a follow up question. Not telling people about your surgery is a "half truth" or a "lie" steams me like a pile of fresh cow dung...
I'm hoping this doesn't come up for me but if someone asks directly I plan on saying either "That's a pretty personal question!" or "I don't like to talk about personal questions like that" or maybe "Why do you ask?" I do have one sister whom I don't wish to tell cuz I think she will tell others and am not sure what to tell her. We are close enough to ask personal questions and I wouldn't want to imply a method of weight loss works when it didn't work for me (for me, diet and exercise did not work). Maybe I will just say. "I'm eating a whole lot less food!" For now, I just hope I get my surgery and lose the weight Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Question about rate of loss
I'm curious as to whether a slow loser before surgery is a slow loser after? Is a fast loser before surgery a fast loser after? (Waiting for my surgery to be scheduled I find my mind filled with all kinds of random thoughts like this.) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Right choice
When you say you fear the gas, are you referring to the gas pain after surgery or having problems with gas/flatulence after surgery? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What Are Some Things You Can't Wait for POST OP?
All of the above and: 1. Be able to squeeze by people in a church pew without being humiliated 2. Be able to buy normal width shoes 3. Not be a glutton 4. Weigh less than my husband 5. Wish for something else when blowing out birthday candles or wishing on a star 6. Walk through turnstile full on Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Pre-opt diet....
I think my surgeon may consider size of abdomen. I have a 42 BMI and have to do a three week 20 carb, low fat liver shrinking pre-opt diet. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Looking for input
I have spent the last few months agonizing over the same decision. My surgeon referred me for several tests for acid reflux/GERD and after finding I have some damage from it I am now going for a gastric bypass. In addition to talking to your surgeon, you may find it helpful to make a list of your health conditions (if any) and research which surgery is best for each one of them. Include things like previous abdominal surgeries, preference for sweets versus large volume eater of healthier foods, as well as amount of weight to lose and likelihood of regain and see which surgery fits you best. So frustrated with waiting for surgery
Thanks all. I finally reached the doctor and found out there is evidence of some damage from acid reflex so it looks like Gastric Bypass is the route for me.
