badi1023 got a reaction from teabear in 4 days post op and new to this group....
I had my gastric bypass this past Monday for medical reasons. The biggest issue was Barrett's Esophagus Disease, HBP, sleep apnea and I could definitely use the weight loss. The surgeon also operated on a hyatal hernia which has caused me extreme discomfort in my diaphragm, back and shoulder. I get winded if I walk or even talk to much. I almost regret having the hernia repair done. I'm really worried that the weight is coming off but I'm not able to meet the 30 minutes of exercise my surgeon wants me doing each day.
Just wondering if anyone else had both surgeries at once and what the outcome was.

Thank you all for responding. It's nice to know that I'm not alone on this journey.
Each day is getting a little bit better, the hernia part is still the most painful and I'm continuing pain meds just not as frequent. I discovered a very large bruise on my left side that hadn't been there until today, not sure what that's about.
I'm glad to have heard from all of you and think it's great to keep in touch with about how we are doing. I'm still learning this app so I'm not sure how to private message anyone. If someone knows and wants to keep in touch just let me know how. :-)

As painful as it is at first, walking helps more than anything else. It helps the pain go away faster and prevents blood clots from forming it's very very important.

I had my surgery Monday as well and all had the hernia repair just like you I get short of breath but I must say I've had no pain. I walk a lot though in my house and I think this really helped me. Good luck!

I got a hiatal hernia repaired during my gastric bypass as well. The hernia was much larger than what the doctor expected so he had to cut it out and then reshape my stomach. All of that being said, my recovery is much slower than others I know who had just the gastric bypass the same day as I do (we keep in touch). If I didn't get it repaired during surgery, it would've had to be repaired down the line which means a SECOND surgery and a second recovery. Also, not repairing it would mean my acid reflux wouldn't have been cured. So, it sucks - yes. Can I walk around the house all day? Nope. But I don't have to get another surgery, AND I don't have all the issues that came along with my hernia. I'm very thankful for that. We'll heal slower, recovery will be harder, but in a few months - we will be SO much better off than we'd have been without the repairs. I'm sorry you're going through this. I had my surgery December 29th btw. Feel better!!! Everything will come in time.

I am working on my Protein and Water intake...everyday gets a little easier. You have to walk to prevent a blood clot..,get up and move.

I had mine Tuesday. The hernia was bad-- a prior surgery had come loose again and the mesh hadn't dissolved (lots of scar tissue). Hernia repair and RNY took 4.5 hours- I'm still extremely tired and not able to walk much but it gets better every day! Still taking pain meds. We should keep up with each other-- I also had mine for medical reasons (Bile Reflux). I was sleeved two years ago so I only need to lose about 35lbs to goal weight.
