    Hair Loss

I also have thin hair and I'm pretty concerned about hair loss. My surgery is March 24th, and I started taking Biotin a couple days ago.. I am getting married in October, so I hope I won't be bald by then! The good news(?) is that I have short (bleached) blonde hair. I see many people are saying they're cutting their hair shorter to "hide" their hair loss... So maybe my already short hair will make it less noticeable... Hopefully...

Pre-op liquid diet is rough... ~_~

I am so scared for my liquid diet.... Fortunately I only have to do it the 3 days prior to surgery... But I have to work all those days (13hour shifts)... So yeah, it's the thing I'm most nervous about.

    Weight loss

im in roughly the same boat.... Only add 12 years.
  13. I worry about loose skin too, and will not be able to afford plastics. My other concern is that my chest is going to completely disappear. My chest is definitely not proportionate to my stomach! BUT I'd rather be 75lbs lighter with some loose skin and small chest.... Clothes and a good bra can make that look decent.... Whereas there is not a lot that makes me feel like I look decent as I am currently.

    Low BMI and Gastric Sleeve

My BMI is 36, I am 36 years old, and I am scheduled for surgery March 24th. I cannot wait! I am not telling anyone other than my fiancée, at least not until after surgery. I fear people at work will notice the quick weight loss, and depending on what foods I'm on when I return to work... Since I plan on only taking 2 weeks off. I'm a RN and work 13hour night shifts, so we eat when we can at the nurses station (shhh don't tell The joint commission!)... I am hoping not to have too much loose skin afterwards, but honestly I'd trade this chub for loose skin any day!
  15. I'm getting married in October, I am feeling impatient also!!
  16. Hello! My surgery date is March 24 for VGS... I'm 36, live in Oak Park, and am having surgery at St. Mary's Livonia. Will you add me to the Facebook group please? Negativerobot@me.com Thanks!!!

    Anyone getting married?

Hello all, I'm having surgery March 24 and getting married Oct 8. I would have preferred that the timing was better..... But whatcha gonna do? I'm on the lower end of the acceptable BMI for surgery, but still have a good deal of weight to lose. Id be happy to drop to 175 (150 would be a dream)... I haven't told anyone other than my fiancé that I'm getting surgery. Everyone keeps telling me I need to find a dress... I don't plan on telling anyone, though we'll see how that goes once I start losing weight. How did you handle getting your dress? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

    First consultation tomorrow

Thanks everyone! I appreciate you taking the time to read and respond. It helps to ease some of the anxiety!
  19. Hello everyone. Tomorrow is my first consultation with the surgeon. I have a 10 page application I have to turn in, which includes my "story." This is kind of long, but if you're bored, feel free to read it and let me know your thoughts.... If I should make edits... etc. I'm on the lower end of acceptable BMI for insurance coverage, and I'm so nervous that they won't approve me.... Here goes: I've struggled with my weight all my life. As I've gotten older it's gotten harder and harder to lose pounds or inches. The last few years I've been trying really hard, dieting is much as I can, and exercising as much as I can. Unfortunately it seems my metabolism has slowed to a crawl, and my hunger is ever-present. I've been going to exercise classes, but I can't keep up with the rest of the class. My feet hurt, my hips too, and my knees ache and sometimes want to give out. And this doesn't even speak to my low endurance and fatigue. Over the years my romantic relationships have suffered... On top of my aches and pains, and my negative body image, and exhaustion, my libido has become almost non-existent. My fiancée has put up with this for years, but he shouldn't have to "put up" with this type of problem... We are building a life together... One we should both be thrilled with and not one that will "make do." Aside from my relationships with others, my relationship with myself has never been easy. I sometimes feel a total disconnect with my body. Despite the fact that I've been overweight for most of my life, it's still hard for me to accept that there are things that I want to do but my body won't allow me to do. I'm not talking extreme sports or winning medals, I'm not competitive in the slightest. I just want to enjoy life... I want to go on hikes, I want to ride my bike long distances, I want to swim, I want to dance all night at my wedding... I want to be a healthy, active, happy, strong role model for my soon-to-be stepdaughter. I hate that I'm usually too tired to play with her, that I get too worn out on bike rides, and my body hurts too much for the active moments we should be sharing. And I hate that as hard as I try to steer her towards a life of self love and body positivity, that I'm sure she can see in my eyes that I can't practice what I preach. I know that weight-loss surgery won't fix all my problems.. But I know that it will be an incredibly helpful tool. And I know that the progress that I'll make because of this tool, will only make me work harder. I'm happy to work hard... My ultimate goal is to work hard... in order to be able to work harder. I just need a little help along the way.

    Bad Experience...

I have a consultation with Dr. Roberts next week! Are you still happy with your experience with St. Mary's?
  21. I don't want to tell anyone other than my fiancée. But I know my friends and family and coworkers are all going to ask questions about my weight loss..... I am getting married in October so I might be able to get away with telling them I am just super motivated this time and combining all previous efforts.....? I don't know.... they'll probably all figure it out, but it's not a topic I care to discuss with people.

    Time off work

since I am a RN I work 3 12.5 hour shifts per week.. I was thinking I could work my 3 shifts, have surgery the next day, then I'd have off 7 days after surgery and and additionally I could maybe take 3 days of PTO, and then schedule my 3 shifts at the end of the next week. That would give me exactly 2 weeks off work after surgery....but only need to request 1 week of time off...
