    Surgeon Requirements

My surgeon requires a three-month supervised diet, psych consult, one visit to a bariatric support group before and after surgery, attendance to two different classes, meet with a nutritionist in which I will have homework and have to pass a quiz, and a complete physical within the last year. One year post op - Reached goal

    Wow! Amazing work!
  4. I had a great dr appointment today. My doctor approved the use of my food and exercise journals from November and December and signed off on the paperwork so I may end up having surgery in April or early May instead of late June!

    Houston/April 2016

Sending a request! Never mind. Just saw this was Houston. Lol I'm east coast! Oops!
  6. It confuses me to no end!! Ahhh! I've thought about asking my surgeon's office to try to submit my paperwork after 3 months (he requires 3 months) just to see if it's really required! Either way, I'll keep moving on!
  7. The policy also mentions a psych eval
  8. Brittney, this may help you some. I called anthem many times even before I went to my PCP for a referral and was told I just needed the surgeon to call for a pre-authorization and to have a BMI of 40+ or 35 with comorbities. I get into the process and find this. 6 months of a non-surgical weight loss program supervised by a doctor. https://www.anthem.com/medicalpolicies/policies/mp_pw_a053317.htm
  9. Anybody else with this insurance? Every time I call and talk to a rep they are so confused. I continually get conflicting information and it's like pulling teeth to get something in writing. Just hoping to connect with someone else.
  10. Idiot ^^^ get off my post He must still be on pain killers....

    How long ? Sooo anxious

My surgeon requires 3 months of supervised diet even if the insurance doesn't (my insurance requires 6 tho.) he also requires 2 pre op classes, attendance to a Bariatric support group and a nutrition appointment in which I have to pass a quiz before he will move forward with surgery.

    TEAM SLEEVEY

How much? What's the size range?
  13. My 3rd of 6 doctor appts required by insurance is Monday. Bariatric support group meets Tuesday then my pre-op class is 3/22. At that class I will also be scheduled for my nutrition appointment and will be given "homework" to study and complete before my nutrition appt. I have to take a quiz the day of my nutrition appointment and if I fail, no surgery til I pass! I'm a little nervous but I have a background in medicine so hopefully those nutrition classes from nursing school will help! I still don't have a date but I'm around 3 months from surgery!

Need to have Colonoscopy 10 weeks post Surgery

I wish I would have resisted a little before starting Remicade. It's only the 3rd drug I've even been prescribed for UC. I was diagnosed 5 years ago. Was your surgeon ok with you being on Entocort while having surgery? Thanks for sharing with me.

    Insurance - 6 months or 6 visits?

Mine just requires 6 different months. My last visit will actually be on June 1 so that they can submit to insurance that day to try to get me in for surgery before my insurance year restarts in July! Luckily they said my insurance is just a call and they find out during the call if I'm approved or denied.

Need to have Colonoscopy 10 weeks post Surgery

I hate to hijack a post, but seeing you have UC caught my eye. I also have UC and my VSG will be in June. My surgeon is hesitant though because I'm on Remicade for my UC. May I ask how things went for you having UC and going through WLS?

    Any May Sleevers yet?

Well due to an insurance mix up I'm going to be a June surgery now. Boo!
  18. I had my consult yesterday and we agreed on the sleeve. My surgery will be in June. I've already done my psych eval, my gynecologist faxed over my most recent physical results, and I've been to one class. I still have to go to a support group meeting and my pre-op class and nutrition appointment is on March 22nd. They asked me some questions at my consult that ruled out any pulmonary, cardiac or sleep studies so I was glad for that.

    Any May Sleevers yet?

Yay! Congrats! I do not have a date yet but might get one Monday when I go see my surgeon!
  20. Gastric sleeve! I have inflammatory bowel disease so it's basically my only option since it doesn't involve the bowel. For my BMI a gastric bypass would be ideal but my GI Doctor and surgeon think it could be dangerous since I already have malabsorption issues when my disease is flared.

D-I-S-R-E-S-P-E-C-T Find out what it means to me

I live pretty close to Dolly's hometown and amusement park, so she's an idol around here. I remember the first time I saw the movie The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and saw Dolly was in it. I was astounded. Lol
  22. Sassy, I am pre-op! I just finished up month 3 of the 6 month insurance requirement! I expect my surgery to be in May or early June at the latest!

I go to my psych eval this afternoon.

For me, she asked me to tell her about myself. She wanted to know what methods I had tried to lose weight before and what I eat throughout the course of a normal day. Asked what my plans were for making sure I was successful after surgery. Asked if I had a support system. Asked what things might trip me up after surgery. Then I had to take a 300 +/- question true or false personality test.
  24. I can't even explain the relief I feel. I knew I was stressing..but didn't realize just how much So happy for you!!! I've been lurking reading your story! How exciting!
