My surgery day was confirmed just today! March 17! I am having my surgery at the Obesity Control Center in Mexico. I have wanted to do this for such a very long time... I first looked into WLS back in 2008, and first contacted the surgical center I am going through almost two years ago, but I was unable to proceed for financial reasons. I am so ready to feel better! to feel good in my body! I have been creeping on this site for a loooong time. feels good to have started the journey, and to be interacting with all of you beautiful people.
Cheers!

I'm going with Kelly.. March 28. Deposit of $520 PayPal fee included.
$3150 cashiers check for dr Kelly. $1000 cash for clinic. I received a VERY lengthy email with payment instructions, diet plan, post op expectations...EVERYTHING. There is a extra percentage for using a card.

Did CHAMPVA pay Any part for the sleeve? Most post I've read say that they don't cover it. A couple say that they don't do pre approval only accept or deny a bill.I have Medicare & ChampVA & they are covering this surgery. I was shocked to see my bills for the surgery all added up to around $50,000. It's worth it because I won't have to deal with issues (or very little) for oxygen & heart along with other issues from being 150lbs overweight. Part of what jacked up the cost of the surgery itself is the Hiatal Hernia repair & the surgeon had to cut thru a lot of scar tissue from a previous surgery. I was only in the hospital 2 nights. My surgery was done at Baylor Plano, Plano TX. Great place, great surgeon, great care, period.

Insurance will find any reason to not pay. People have been denied because of .01 some calculators say that 210 is 40 for my height some 215. I'm just now in the stages of choosing a doctor and I'm with CHAMPVA.

I've searched around and I've noticed that some of these bmi charts and calculators vary a little bit. I'm 5'1 "210" some calculators say that I'm 39.99 others 40. Is there anywhere I can find THE bmi chart that doctors or insurance companies use.

Thanks. My plan hasn't started yet but they told me it was covered. The rep didn't sound too sure I may just need to cancel my plan. It's hard finding someone to cover bariatric in Alabama
-
I'm in Alabama and I have uhc. I got the booklet and it say bariatric surgery is not covered. On exclusion list. Is this point blank or do I just need a doctors referral?
-
Anyone used this place? Which surgeon? How was it?
-
Actually that is great for me. I'm barely at 40 bmi. And the sleep study is one of my concerns. I do t want to have to travel 3 hours back and forth to bham for 14 days. I'm also a college student and I work so time is key for me.
I am self pay and the sleep study was actually marked in my packet from the doc as a requirement but once I met with Dr Schmitt and he saw my young age and that I am a lower BMI he said it wasn't required. I just had to do the pre op blood work, and I have to do the nutrition class on the 20th. I did consider doing the sleep study anyway for a bit and my insurance would have paid for one at a sleep study clinic but not the home study and we have EXCELLENT insurance.
Did you have any problems with the sleep study?
I'm set for surgery with Dr Schmitt on the 27th! I loved his staff and him and know he and Dr Miles are very nice Christian men and they have an excellent record with the sleeve!!!Hi what doctors are you guys using? How did it go? I'm considering Schmitt. Is there anyone reputable in Tuscaloosa?
Sorry I'm not much help in the requirement department!
-
Hi, I'm sure most of you guys have bcbs or Uhc but requirements and plans are different for each state! I'm trying to pick a provider and plan for Alabama. If you guys could please tell the provider plan and requirements that would be awesome. I'm looking at the UHC Gold Compass 100. Also do they require you to maintain at least 40 bmi before surgery? Thanks!
