How Much Have You Lost So Far?

This is wonderul, all this weight loss!.....but, I have a question. Did you guys have to do the liquid diet 2 weeks pre-op? I have been on strict liquids and haven't strayed once. I lost 18 lbs prior to surgery on June 9th, but haven't lost ANY since then. I definately feel the restriction too, and am only eating about 700 calories per day between my shakes, protein, and milk. Comments?

    Foul Breath

Duh, ketosis....makes sense! Here I thought it was the milk from the CIB shakes that I was drinking! Silly me!

  6. Hi bxlisa, Just learning this lapbandtalk website and added you as a friend since we have the cooking thing in common. I didn't want to loose you in the crowd! :-) Take care!

  7. bxlisa, now that's what I'm talking about!!! Sounds wonderful!!! Exactly recipes like that - something that you can't just throw together out of the box, takes "love" to prepare and appreciate. I'm just not that creative. I can cook 'em, I just can't think of 'em! Thanks much! I'm saving this one for when I can eat again! :-) Feel free to share with me more. This could be fun!
  8. Hey bxlisa! I have been thinking the same thing - sort of! My husband asked me what we are going to do with the time that we used to spend eating out, so we have been thinking about that. We both really loved trying new restaraunts and very much enjoy "fine dining". So, the more I think about, I think I would enjoy making cooking my new hobby. But cooking like this..... spending 1-2 hours making fine, tasty, low-fat small fufu meals and then savoring the flavor. My husband thinks I'm crazy for still focusing on food, but I actually want to CHANGE my focus on food instead of pretending it doesn't exist.
  9. Try this - it works for me. Take a normal bite out of a SF popsicle and let it melt in a small bowl. Add your crushed meds and continue to stir - mine dissolve pretty well or only leave little small chunks - goes down easy. That's how they gave them to me in the hospital.

    Lap Band on June 12

So, fellow "bandsters" - how did it go?

2 days post op and more questions

Neck pain - me too! It didn't show up until day 2 but when it did, it hurt and actually worried me a bit. My glands were all swollen on both sides of my neck and I thought I was getting sick. It lasted for one day and then disappeared. Must have been like the others said, either the CO2 or the anesthetist maneuvering me around. (whew! big words - don't know if I spelled them right! hehehe)

is it hunger, gas, or fullness?

I also had this experience, and still do (only 4 days post-op). I think it is something we have to learn to interpret. I'm also trying to "think smart for my stomach" and say "I know I need nutrition" so I make myself a CIB shake and sip away.
  13. I was totally there with you, girl friend! I am 4 days post-op and have found out that I am a slow healer also - either that or have a low tolerance for pain! Each day it is getting better. Today I thought I needed to get out of the house so I asked my husband to take me to the mall. We went to GNC to buy the protein shots everyone is talking about. For some reason, I was in so much "band" pain! I could feel the band around my stomach/esophagus and it hurt! Kinda miserable with that all day. My advice - REALLY SIP, SIP, SIP....it gets better :-)

    I have arrived!

Yeah, I had buyers remorse the day after also. Pretty depressed, but then read on the hospital discharge instructions that you should make sure to take your antidepressants! duhhhh......Now that I am feeling better physically, I am getting real excited and VERY motivated to start my new healthy journey!

    Banded June 5, 2008

I just banded on Monday and have been on the CIB liquid diet for 3 weeks now. I have always hated V-8, but I tell you, it sounds so good right now. I think I may have to give it another try and appreciate what it has to offer - flavor and nutrition!

    Post Surgery check in here

Lizzard, I know how you feel. I had a hard time too. I also was banded on Monday and have really done nothing but walk the apartment and slept. I have to say though, that I also felt nausea when thinking of anything but plain water, but then I tried a sip or two of CIB and it REALLY helped a lot! Also, the warm beef broth feels good too. Maybe just try to get down a sip or two and see how you feel. I think it might make you feel better. Did they give you suppositories for nausea? I did that once too and that helped. Good luck! Hang in there.

    Lap Band Surgery Shopping List

Hi All, I would add one thing to the list that is needed for the first few days. That is an ice bag. You know, the kind that you screw off the lid and put ice in it? I have found the cold helps with the pain and the swelling. When I use the heating pad it actually irritated the incisions. Thought I would pass along!
  18. Thank you soooo much for the kind words of encouragement! I can't believe that from a stranger, it really makes that much of a difference, but it really does!! I'll keep hanging in there......thanks again and good luck to you too!

    It's Done!! I'm Banded

I wouldn't worry. I stayed in overnight also and am VERY glad I did. I was able to get antinausea and pain meds IV that way and I definately used them both multiple times. I also felt way better when I came home that I would have if I had come home that same evening. Each time I slept from the pain meds and then got up and walked around I felt better. I think it's good to stay overnight, myself.

    It's Done!! I'm Banded

Bando, How do you do it? Get banded and then go walking about? Wow! I got banded on Monday and I can't even imagine sitting in a car that long, going to the airport and sitting in a plane. Wow! Doesn't your port incision hurt? Pass on some of your strength, would you!? :0

    My first fill went great!

Made me realize that if they don't offer then I am going to DEMAND lidocaine! hehehe (that's what they get when they band a demanding pharmacist!) Thanks for the video, I think! :-)
  22. I go in for surgery tomorrow. Is this something I want to see before? Will it scare me and make me all nervous?

    Lap band on June 16th

What Carry D.???? Is that true about the Mexico operations? Where do they take you shopping?
  24. Very interesting. On the "Jazzy Junes" group someone posted a list of things to buy prior to surgery to have on hand and one of them was cough drops. I wondered why, but I guess I know now. I thought it was basically just to keep the throat moist after the intubation. Good luck - send someone to get some cough drops! :-)
