  1. Optifast pre surgery. I don't know all the specific details yet, I'm 5 weeks out from my surgery date. When I know the specifics, later this week I imagine, I'll post it.

    In Lansing, anyone use Sparrow?

Hey apeters, that's fantastic news! I just yesterday had my medical intake and on the 27th I meet Dr. Y, then they'll schedule me. So long story longer, I have no idea when. How do you feel about doing 4 weeks of Optifast? I'm excited and nervous wondering too if I'll cheat and chew food.

    Changing beliefs to fit behaviors

I'm a newbie who's not yet banded and in reference to your original post here, I'd more than welcome what you have to say because you've been there, done that. I value the opinions of those who've been through it. I'm hoping I won't need a kick in the ass after I have my surgery, but if I do, I welcome you to kick my ass! lol
  6. I have a two year old and in two weeks, my other one will be 14. I will tell my 14 year old when my surgery is - I've kept him up-to-date with what's going on so he'll know he will need to help out a little more when I'm home from the hospital. Just talk to them in age-appropriate language. "Mommy needs to have surgery and won't be feeling like playing for a little while. But soon, I'll be able to play again!" something like that.

    Dr Schram

I don't know Dr. Schramm but wanted to congratulate you for your approval! :rolleyes2: Hopefully it won't be long now.

    phsyc evaulation

Those were my exact questions last week too! I was laughing hard and thinking they might think I was nuts. I had my sit-down yesterday and he said I come across in person the way I answered the questions. I told him some were utterly ridiculous and he agreed, but said some people do answer True that if they lie they will look better.
  9. Yes, I struggled with it until I realized I didn't like the malabsorption of the bypass. I'm still not scheduled for surgery yet but should have my date next week. Good luck.

That would be great to be in the same group:cool: I will definitely let you know.

I have to also agree with your reasoning as well. I haven't met Dr. Yenemula yet but I think I will be next week. I go on Monday and Thursday and I *think* I'll be getting my date for surgery. The only thing at this point that I find a nuisance is the weekly meetings - I'm a divorced mother of a 14 year old and a 2 year old and work 10 hour days four days/week. I also have MS and take my shots on Thursday nights making me no good to anyone on Fridays as it makes me feel like I have the flu. I do thank God for sick leave time! I admit I'm afraid to go anywhere else and have to go through the approval process yet again. I do like the staff so far, those I've seen anyway. Do you have a surgery date yet or have you had your surgery yet?

I've heard that Ingham Regional now has a weight loss thing too but I don't know. I do know with the Optifast and other tests it is expensive out of pocket and that's a royal pain, but I also think if I have to pay for any of it, I'll work that much harder at doing it right. Make sense?

    In Lansing, anyone use Sparrow?

Well I have two more appointments next week to finish all the pre-whatevers they require then I suppose it'll be the Optifast first. I'm just really anxious to get started. I'm sick of being fat. lol Oh, almost forgot to answer. Never have I used optifast before. I have a couple friends who did it and they eventually learned to hate it, but I'm a bit more optimistic!

Thank you to both of you. Nope, Gregory isn't too far at all. I have PHP and have been pre-approved. when I went to SWM they are trained to say "up to 6 months" and I couldnt' get them to narrow it down, except I was told it will be greatly shortened because of being pre-approved. It's agrrivating not getting exact answers from them, so I'm happy to have gotten a better answer from you apeters. Thank you. Good luck to you too.

Lap Band vs Roux en Y choices

Thank you Mary. I hope to be able to do all you are doing when all is said and done.

    How soon after...

Great question. I did the same thing you did and just found out last week I was approved for surgery. I go for my medical and behavioral assessments this coming Thursday. I can let you know what they tell me when I'm done. good luck to you.

Lap Band vs Roux en Y choices

Hi Mary, I'm new here and just wanted to say I too, had been waivering (for different reasons than the OP) on wether or not to do bypass (my BMI is 40) or lapband. what you wrote above has me convinced I'll do the lapband. I have multiple sclerosis and was diagnosed back in September and one thing that B-12 does is protect the myelin sheath that surround your nerves - which MS so nicely erodes. Thank you for helping convince me that lapband is the way to go for me.
  19. Hi everyone. I'm a newbie from Michigan and just found out I was approved for surgery. I go on Thursday for my medical and behavorial assessments. I'm hoping to have smooth sailing and have my lap band in a cuople months. Where I'm going I'm required to do Optifast for 4 weeks prior. I have about 90 pounds I want to lose. I gained about 35 after I quit smoking back in June. Even though I've hated all the weight gain, I never once seriously considered smoking again to curb the gains. I'm looking forward to my journey and sharing it all with you and getting to know everyone here. Anyone have any words of advice?

Thanks Road King - I was born and raised in Lansing but lived in Houston for 2 years where I had my almost 14 year old son. Moved back so his extended family wouldn't be strangers.
