  1. I only told my mum, aunt and best friend - now 6 weeks post op people just comment on me looking slightly different although I am a slow loser, declining food was never my forte in the past so people have been speculative not about surgery but me making health changes and working out. Some choose honesty, some choose secrecy, whatever works for you, works.

  2. Hi All, I had surgery on 13/01 lost 7kg in my first week, then hit a stall for two weeks! (THE HORROR!!!) I avoided the scales for 3 weeks back on the losing wagon but a lot slower! It might be the January curse and blessing in disguise - I have little to no restriction so decided to start putting extra time in working out. My transition to food has had no limits but my food choices have changed drastically: I have salad with everything! Good carbs: brown rice, couscous, quinoa; Protein - of course.

I did feel I was the only one but glad to know I'm not. But better food choices = results. Started weighing myself again so will see if there is continuation in progress!

  3. It's look the rule of law was working... I was just stressing about this during eating some tuna and mashed potatoes, questioning whether I should have been doing it or not. Now in week 3 weighed myself this morning and the scale did not move -__- thankfully it is normal I had pre-read about stalls but it is different when you're actually going through one. But at least we're not alone.

  4. I hope they meant walking with "day 1 exercise" because the pain is too restrictive. Stick to walking and the more the pain starts to ease you will resume daily activities. Full exercise is only to be resumed once you are healed and there are different recommendations on when exactly that is.

  5. Breakfast: one egg with milk and soft cheese (makes it softer a bit more moist and adds protein). I tend to have it with smoked salmon mashed with a fork that is my food porn right now! They do say to have 3 meals a day but I barely feel hungry once I've had one meal so I just substitute with liquids, mainly Protein Shakes or Soups. But I will try the Ricotta bake. Sometimes eat the same thing I've had that two days in a row and love it.

  6. So in total you do 4 weeks? That's seems far more bearable, in total I'm doing 3 months of post op dieting but loving the energy so it's all good.

Mine is a 3 month diet as well. 4 weeks is definitely more bearable! I'm 13 days post op today and this morning I heard my stomach growl! But I still wasn't hungry! As I mentioned before, my tolerance for soft foods is very good. So, i started chewing on more soft foods (crab meat, yogurts, sweet potatoes etc). I have lost about 5lbs post surgery but I've lost a very noticeable amount of inches in my waist and my upper body area. My face has really thinned out as well. I'm not really stressing about the number-it will go down with time. I just want to be healthy and not malnourished in the long run. It's hard to even remember to eat! And I'm still struggling with getting all of my fluids in. It's a work in progress! I feel great though!

Yes stomach noises!!! My NUT said the stomach noises mean our stomachs are cleaning themselves and I don't think I've actually had real hunger, more mental, no growling due to hunger only cleaning! Yes the number does not matter! Physically I have changed drastically! Jeans are getting looser, roundness in my face too has gone down. I think being scale obsessed will hurt more and I did read that one, your body can be changing the fat into muscle with all the Protein and two, tightening and toning up; either way there is loss in inches, dress sizes and FAT! Definitely feel great too!

  7. Eating solid foods early can actually do something to your system if you eat them early, when later on when you can eat anything, you might not be as to tolerate it anymore. Just advice, keep following by the diets all the way through

Even if you can handle it.

Absolutely. My hospital starts the puréed diet at 11 days. All my foods are puréed or according to the guidelines of what I am able to have and that's only one meal a day, the rest are liquids. So not based on my toleration I went through everything with the nutritionist what I'm having etc. Including Protein Shakes and puréed Soups and apparently fine. Just different methods, some people do start puréed foods after a week though so just going off my program. I am on this for 3 1/2 weeks then soft foods.

  8. I just had my apt today and expressed my high toleration. I started my puréed phase yesterday and expressed my high tolerance. A lot of responses show your body telling you you're done with food but somehow I feel as though I'm telling myself. Nonetheless I have only eaten fish and sweet potato, this morning had cerelac (baby's porridge) and was full after 5 mouthfuls. I am still scared tho to even attempt to try anything as appealing as it looks puréed foods slide down but anything else looks like it will get stuck! I have dropped 7kg and can only see how it goes. But definitely feel afraid of the high tolerance but the right foods and just Protein over everything! How are you both feeling?

  9. No problem! You are taking in a good amount of Protein and I would say just take it easy you did lose quite a bit in your pre-op so expect to be sure the rest will follow. And I agree that we may have a tougher time when it comes to switching from soft foods to solid foods - but I'm praying we don't! Lol. So funny how parallel our lives are I had an apt today top which I had to reschedule :) Good luck with it and keep us updated.

  10. Roughly how much can you eat? If you are being filled up by liquids then that definitely shows your pouch is ok, as prior to this we have been eating larger solid foods to drink liquids and be full that should suggest everything is ok. The only difference is how many times you are eating throughout the day. For instance, my Protein intake I presume is low because I would be full and I tend to stay up most nights as a student. Yesterday I had: glass of apple juice in the afternoon, Protein shake in the evening and a yoghurt later on.

I feel like I am undergoing a speedy recovery: had surgery 9 days ago, completely off pain meds, I don't really experience pain anymore only if I maybe try to lift something it's a reminder but apart from that I feel okay.

In regards to food, I have a broth with very tiny noodles in it and I have chewed them to see what my toleration is and it went down. I haven't thrown up or had any nauseous feelings due to fullness but I can tell when I've had enough, cause prior to surgery I would keep going but something says DONT DO IT! With the weight loss, what is your daily intake of foods? And how are your bowel movements as you may be constipated?

  11. 6 Days post-op now. Feeling better each day. Don't think I've gotten enough walking in and getting Protein in is crazy too! But feelings of nausea are easing up slowly, pain is easing have slightly more mobility than I did before! The most important thing is to try and not get to the point of hunger as then I get cranky and fall in love with the smells of food! Yesterday I made sure I eat before severe hunger struck and felt a lot more at ease. Wounds have officially begun itching which is crazy as I've officially come to terms that I can visibly see staples in my stomach. And the noises your stomach makes are legendary! I'm sure this morning I could actually see the way everything was being digested...

  12. I am officially 2 days post op and had the worst cold feet as soon as I was being taken into the anaesthetist. I'd seen someone throwing up in the recovery room and that sent me into instant panic, I hate throwing up although it's a huge possibility with the bypass it can be avoided and my least favourite thing to do. I had such cold feet, so many thoughts were running through my mind and you begin to doubt yourself and the choice. However when you weigh out the pros against the cons you realise you are on this path for a reason and no one would choose such a path unless it was necessary.

  13. I somewhat agree, Day 2 pain is really bad but I am thankful to the pain killers because they really are easing the pain. Still at the hospital and they're keeping them coming in rotation! Only drinking Water and a bit of apple juice a bit scared to have any soup/broth plus, not feeling hungry at all feel like I can live off water!

Good luck to all upcoming procedures, it goes quickly!
