    My "Butterfly" day ...

Congrats on the day! Yes, the 6 month wait sucks but goes by quicker than you think. Which is why I can emphasize enough how people should relax and enjoy life during the wait.
  2. Insurance companies typically go by your starting weight. Contact them for verification. Nevertheless, unless your BMI drops below 40 you should be good regardless. No weight gain over the course of your diet, nutrition, and/ore exercise program. For my 13wk pre-op I stayed the exact same weight. My BMI dropped because my lean muscle mass increased. So, it's not just as simple as weight gain.
  3. Definitely go with a bariatric specific formula. I'm using Optisource as it is a truly complete multivitamin. It has all the iron, calcium, vitamin c & d, folate, b12, etc. All in chewable tablets.

    Hobbies?

I love photography and I am finally getting back into it. Matter of fact I'm taking a basic photography class to hone my basic DSLR skills. Outside of that: music and family. I e loved music since I was a kid and even trained vocally in classical music and opera. I still sing for wedding and the like, but certainly not like I used to. Most of my energy goes to wrangling my 4 year old.

    The mental side

The waiting game is just another hoop to jump through to finish your goal. Nevertheless, live your life. You can make preparations and not out your life on hold. The surgery date will get scheduled when it does. Until then no amount of worrying or pause will change it. LIVE!!!

    Calories per day ?

Not eating enough calories forces the body to go into "panic" mode. Your body stores and hangs on to every last ounce of fat you have, and for energy, it burns up your lean mass. Bone density decreases with calorie restriction (so you are more susceptible to break a bone) and so does the strength of your connective tissue (hellooo, sprained ankles).
  8. Sorry, just trying to clarify: Your back pain is after eating and for how long? Or, is it sustained? One of the common feelings for surgical patients is pressure leading to pain. Many times this can be due to excess gas or the body adjusting and healing to the new diet. Areas of concern would be if you are not passing gas or having bowel movements. And/or if you start seeing blood in your stool or urine.

    Malabsorption Concerns

Follow up is key to staving off signs of malabsorption. The other is finding complete Multivitamins that have Iron, B12, Calcium, Folate, Vitamin D, and Vitamin C. Being nervous about this surgery is completely normal. However, the damage done to your body by being obese is far greater. Are there bad stories out there? Of course there are. Nevertheless, there are numerous success stories and millions of pounds lost due to WLS. Find a highly recommended surgeon and a Bariatric Center of Excellence. Convey your concerns but listen to why they recommend on surgery over the other.
  10. Does your policy cover surgery under any set of circumstances? Many policies cover it only once a certain BMI is met in addition to comorbidities like HTN, Diabetes, sleep apnea, or elevated lipids. @@OKCPirate mentioned financing. There were two companies mentioned to me by my hospital (Care Credit & United Medical Credit). Ultimately we were able to cover the co-insurance.

    Calories per day ?

Even with a nutrient dense pre-op diet, 5-600 calories is too low. My preop diet had me intaking at least 850-900 cal/day.

    Spleen Pain?

It can be a scary issue and one that will frighten you worse if you research it to ad nauseum. Muscle strains can get worse if you continue to exert the area and don't properly ice/care for it. Again, I'm not saying that's DEFINITELY what it is, but it's another thing to consider. It's all in how you feel. Nevertheless, a call into your PCP is never a bad thing.

    I said "No Way"!

That's fantastic! I used to wear a size 50 waist for my work pants. 2wks post op and I was already swimming in them. I was going to be conservative and order a 46 just to make sure they "weren't too small." My wife (the ever so intelligent better half) prompted me to get a 44. Well, she was right. The 44's fit PERFECT! I can't even imagine how great I'll feel when I can fit in a jean size that is closer to my age.
  14. I second the original post. I had my phone and iPad fully charged with me and ready for when I woke up. The headphones would have been a bonus for sure.
  15. My surgeon advised they will do bloodwork at my 1 yr post op appointment. My PCP does blood work every year.

    Spleen Pain?

A few questions: Did you have any symptoms before kickboxing? Were you struck on the left side during kickboxing? Any problems eating a full meal? Does the pain radiate to your left shoulder? Is the pain worse when yo take a deep breath in? Any easy bruising or fatigue? Anemia would correlate if you had an enlarged spleen (or pathology) but not likely be the cause of an enlarged spleen. Outside of that, have you also considered intercostal muscle strain? All of this, if concerning you, should be followed up with by your PCP.
  17. Outstanding! When things slow down to a normal pace (or stall) just stick to your diet plan and portions.
  18. From a guys perspective, it's likely they noticed. However, they're either unsure how to approach it or fear you will not take the comments as a compliment. Unfortunately, we live in a society that is very PC and all it would take is someone to feel offended or harassed....and that's it. I don't know you personally, and maybe they don't feel they know you well enough either. Do you have close relationships with any of the male co-workers? An example would be a male co-worker who told a female she looks great only to be met with "What? Are you saying I was fat?!" Or, something of the like.

    Question

This article from Bariatric Times sums up this common problem. Hopefully yours is easily treated. http://bariatrictimes.com/marginal-ulcers-after-roux-en-y-gastric-bypass-pain-for-the-patient%E2%80%A6pain-for-the-surgeon/comment-page-1/

    Question

Unfortunately, stomach ulcers remain one of the primary complications of RNY surgery (over 50%). There are a number of risk factors for the development of these. Did you have an EGD prior to your surgery?

    2 oz cup

I'm not sure what others are using, but I know the small Dixie cup and other "Jello shot" cups are 2 oz. http://www.amazon.com/Polar-Ice-PI125200CT-Plastic-2-Ounce/dp/B00OFX5DSM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454271808&sr=8-1&keywords=2+oz+cup
  22. Anyone that is older is at a higher risk of bone density changes. Also, women are more prone to bone changes. The main take home point is: make sure to stay up on your Vitamins including calcium and Vit D, and stay in touch with your weight loss team.
  23. I know the strain I've put on my joints won't fully be understood until I get older. However, deciding to have WLS in my mid-30's continues to reaffirm itself. Hopefully I will have minimized the stress on my joints enough to where I won't have to get joint replacements. Only time will tell.
  24. Thanks for the informative article.
