What if I can't do it?

Pre-op was actually significantly harder for me than post-op. Pre-op... oh that's just a sandwich. or two. bah that's nothing. Post op.... Oh that's a Whole thing of yogurt? sigh. Maybe in an hour or two. Keep at it

    New! And I have questions!

Congrats first of all! As for how long it will be before you can go back to school/work/driving ... it really depends on your doc. Mine said 2 weeks for driving, and work. A month for being able to lift over 15 lbs. On the shakes, I haven't found one that I'm nuts about . But the premier chocolate is tolerable to me. There are lots of sources for Protein out there that aren't just shakes. I found unjury unflavored + sugar free butterscotch pudding to taste great. For exercise... start now. I don't mean go out and run a marathon every day. Go for a 5 minute stroll during lunch. If you're a busy person you probably have a lot of pre-defined schedules already. So schedule in exercise time. Then adjust it. You won't nail it the first time. Take your time. You're making an epically large change.
  4. I took a full month off. Mainly because my follow ups would have been 500 miles away. It turned out to be a really good jump start to wearing out the soles of my shoes. Now that I'm back to work and it takes like 2 minutes to eat I walk leisurely for about a half hour during lunch.
  5. 4 days for me. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm on liquid only or actual chewables. 9 am every morning... The people at work love me.

    Concerned

It wore me out taking a shower the first couple of weeks. I was so glad to get dried off and put my belly band back on then sit or lay down and let the spasms stoo.

    Today I am getting sleeved

Don't sweat it. They gave me my phone in recovery. There were some horribly inappropriate txts that day. Stick with it and try to do everything they say.
  8. My insurance was 12 months, monthly dr visits (miss or go over 30 days start over), had to lose 5% of total body weight(was 10%), gain or stay the same and you start over, nicotine free for 6 months, and meet age/bmi/comorbidity guidelines, surgeon also had to agree to provide them with yearly status reports for a decade in writing before they would begin the process. Couldn't use any pharmacological aids during the 12 months. .... I tried for 3-4 years and never could get beyond 6 months. Finally managed to do self pay. Had multiple drs write them that it was a medical necessity etc. Then they wouldn't cover my surgeon prescribed meds post-op. Luckily the johns hopkins social workers helped with the expensive stuff like lovenox. I'm convinced that they only approve a few people each year solely so they can't be sued for having impossible requirements.

    pureed at 1 week?

    Does it ever get better?

I find that i'm much more comfy with soft moist foods like refried beans, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese than i am the few pieces of chicken or beef i've tried. Blended chicken chili was good but chewed to death chicken or beef just seems to get drier and drier.

    Regrets that got better

I had a couple of days right after the surgery where i had buyers remorse. I kind of expected to really. I hurt, i was grouchy as hell and doped to the gills and didnt want to be, i couldnt get any sleep because of the constant nurse and caretaker attention, it was super easy to make myself puke with a little Water.... Then i started leaving the pain button alone, and they gave me a band so it was easier to walk around and get up. The catheter and drain got removed. Then i got to go home and freaking slept a night through. I limped and mewled up the road a little at a time. I felt a little better every day. Now just over a month out the only thing I miss are raw veggies and being able to load a plate up. Im back to work, and time to walk is scarce. The payoff though is sweet sweet wonderful progress in getting healthy. Knowing that i didn't just take a step on that path. I jumped in a car and am hauling ass toward it as hard as I can. I'll hit some speed bumps, but I'm not clawing and scraping up a muddy hill now.

    How much can you eat

I'm right at 1 container of Oikos, 4 slices of turkey, 4-5 teaspoons of soup. Not at once. shudder.

    Anyone have bad leg cramps?

For me cramps are all about the potassium dunno why. When they show up, in the past at least, i'd start eating beans as much as possible and theyd go away.
  14. I've never been a runner or a walker. I can do it but it's one of the most boring aggravating mind numbing hateful things I've had to do. I used to love weight training and swimming though. Ok...not swimming Playing in the water.

Did anyone not have a drain?

Had one for 48 hours. I'm convinced that it was 17 feet long and was trying to make babies with my kidneys.

Purée Diet - I'm so lost

Rosarita no fat was the last i had. Really tasted good. Which os just bizzare to me. I despise a bean 99% of the time

    Advice for a newbie

You've got two huge things coming at you. A major surgery, and a life change that can be discussed but not understood until you've had it.

    Relationship/Marriage after the sleeve

In my opinion, humble or not, don't stay and be abused in any way. And thats what treating you badly and making you feel bad is. Don't kid yourself about it.
  21. In the hospital I stayed busy trying to sleep. Nobody would let me lol. Once I got back to the house I walk, play video games, crochet, read, watch vids on the latest model planes, take the dogs for walks, ferry people to and fro, and dream of foods that crunch.
  22. RoscoColetrain

    Exercise... post op 3 weeks

Walking only for me. I'm up to 2.5-3 miles a day. At least when I don't have to ferry people everywhere. Nice to be able to drive again tho.
  23. I love pickled stuff too. Been waiting on it. I miss the crunch.

    Gas?

Lol i don't doubt it. I almost never burped pre sleeve. Now it's become my constant companion.
  25. Had a liver biopsy with my sleeve. At the check up yesterday they said I have excess Iron in my liver slice. So I may have hemochromatosis. Got to get tested more by my pcp. If so I get to get drained by a pint or so every couple of months for life. Depends on severity etc. Symptoms of it include diabetes, cirrhosis, heart failure, fatigue, joint pain, liver failure. Heh one weird assed heart attack at 19 and now a possible genetic disease 1 out of 200,000 people have. I'm starting to think I should stay indoors during storms.
