12 Days Post Op
hi all. my surgery was wednesday and i still have today and tomorrow on clear liquids and then i can't start soft foods until the 10th! I'm going nuts. so far i feel much better today but water is still the only thing that doesn't hurt when going down but even then i am struggling to get enough in. hope this gets better. i just want to chew something. i don't even care what. and all this sugar free stuff is so gross as it all tastes so artificial.

2 days post op
Man o man this shoulder pain ain't no joke! Worse part by far. I have my heating pad on it while sitting and I am up a lot because that helps but I get tired and sit and it is the worst!!!!

Tomorrow is the day, I'm really nervous, and so hopeful!
Good luck to you! Mine was Wednesday at it honestly hasn't been anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. The gas pain in my shoulder is literally the worst thing but everything else has gone pretty smooth!!

Today is the day! :)
Yes released at about 4pm yesterday. Stayed in a nearby hotel where a nurse came by to check on me. Went back to doctors office this morning and had drain removed and man does that make you feel better. Now on the way home! Follow up in 3 months!!!

Today is the day! :)
Surgery went great. Resting off an on and getting ready to be discharged. Not as bad as I thought. Feel like someone is sitting on my tummy and I'm tired but other than that I feel pretty normal

Surgery Monday. I'm about to back out!
good luck to you tomorrow. can't wait to get back on and read your follow ups about how things went as my surgery is Wednesday! i am on day 5 of my pre op liquid diet and i too had a small thought during it about not going through with it and just living "fat and happy" as i called it. but i realized i was letting some food run my life and i want to be around for my two boys as i am only 31 and need to go ahead and take my life back! i have several friends who have had the surgery and they all say that their only regret is not doing it sooner!!!!! here we go!!!!

What, specifically, caused you to become obese?
I was tiny growing up. Could eat a whole pizza if I wanted and be fine. Got married and was working third shift. Got pregnant with our first son and had the classic "I'm pregnant and can eat whatever I want" syndrome. Hasn't been the same since. I really love green beans but seriously all the other veggies I enjoy are all starches (potatoes, corn, rice etc). I'm just going to have to train myself to like others. And carbs, especially bread is my fav snack so bye bye to that!

To tell or not to tell? WLS
Finally have it all out in the open to family and it now feels like a huge weight has been lifted! I finally just bit the bullet and told and I feel much better!

Anyone's first surgery?
Y'all are so lucky! My surgery is also Wednesday and I have a week of liquids and then day before surgery only clear liquids. I'm basically living off protein drinks and soup broth it really stinks

ugh, these protein shakes make me gag
just mixed up some of the Fuzzy Navel and YAY!!!! it actually is like just drinking a regular drink. no having to sip or having to hold it down to not puke! not a shake but its at least 23 grams of protein so not bad. guess ill just keep trying all 15 of these till i can stomach some!!!!

ugh, these protein shakes make me gag
Those are two of the flavors I haven't tried yet. I will get right on it. Carribbean cooler and crystal sky weren't so great. Can't remember the 3rd one I tried as it was a while back. Off to try those and also some crystal light in a shake. Maybe that will help!!!

ugh, these protein shakes make me gag
anyone else find these things SO terribly nasty???? so far i have had luck with the unflavored powder in stuff but these little shakes pack so much Protein bang for the amount that i wish i could find one i like. its hard to beat 30 g of protein in one thing. so far the muscle milk chocolate i couldn't even finish without gagging and not so cool on the Premier Protein vanilla either. tried three of the Syntrax nectar ones in Water and they don't make me gag at least but they're still so nasty. ugh i can't wait to get to the soft foods stage again. Beans, tuna, salmon...all these high protein foods that sound much more tolerable. only on day two of the 7 day PRE op liquid diet though so I've got a way to go! I'm just so nervous about getting all my protein in at this point without throwing up. if any of you have something that tastes better than this junk let me know. i think it is mostly texture with me unfortunately. i hate this thick junk. ugh, like melted ice cream

pre op diet and the effects it has on those around you
day 1 of 7 here and it already sucks. for some reason everything just tastes off today. hopefully ill get used to it. ill be so happy afterward to at least get on pureed foods and then into soft foods. if i could just find ONE thing that tastes at least decent i am the kind of person that can survive on the same thing for quite some time without getting burnt out. even chicken broth has a funky taste today

2 day liquid diet before surgery?!
7 days of liquid diet for me and day before surgery clear liquids only. today is day number 1 and all i can think about is something substantial. like not even anything that is a splurge. i would settle for a piece of turkey or a few green beans at this point. i sure hope this starts to pass once i am used to it!

Jan 26th surgery day!
i am the 27th! have my NUT class and final appt with the surgeon on wednesday the 20th. that is also the day i start my liquid pre op diet. i am not nervous about being put to sleep or the surgery really but i am getting myself worked up about having my drain removed. that just doesnt sound fun at all. luckily i will have it removed the morning after surgery then i can go home! whoo hoo for outpatient. i am also a little nervous about 30 days of having to give myself blood thinner injections. i hear they are tiny little needles though so I'm sure i will get used to it after a day or so. anything you all are especially nervous about?

I look small for my weight...
same boat here. it really stinks to actually be overweight and it starting to cause some other slight issues but to hear people say you "aren't fat enough" to need surgery. i really do think it is a slight jealously there with some people. my mom, hubby and a few other very close family members know but thats it. i don't need your opinions. after it is over with, i don't mind telling anyone because they won't be trying to talk me out of it. if they don't like it or have something nasty to say, i seriously have no problem just cutting them right out of my life. i have a serious problem with food and this looks to be my only option because nothing else has worked. I've done the research and i am ready to let food have way less control!!!
