Protein strategy - what is yours?
Emilie.Lancaster posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am day 8, and in this short amount of time, I have discovered many things about what I like and what I don't. I like making a 50+ g protein shake as my starter each day, and sipping it all morning. This way, I'm well on my way to my goal of 80g. (I feel like 60g is the lowest I dare go). What are your goals and strategy to get there? -

Yes, fluids are not a problem. I can feel them slide all the way down and sometime gush through the pylorus. I can, if I think on it and take the pacing just so, I can drink 2 cups of broth over about a 30 min period. Has to be clear liquids, but it runs right on down. Today, just one narcotic pill and that was after my walking around. -

I have a theory about starvation levels and the body trying to detect food any way it can, rejecting all but the best. Meh? -

Food processor, 1 egg, handful of mozzarella, sprinkles of Parmesan, Italian Spices, salr, pepper, and a large chicken breast. Wizz that up and pat it thin onto parchment paper. Bake till done, golden, then drain off any liquid, pat dry and use like any other pizza crust. -

Yes. Mourn it. It's not wrong or right, its just how you feel today. I don't know what normal is yet, but I am curious. I'll have many fears, as do so many others seeking comfort on this board. This is the horizon time. How wonderful it is that you are on the rim of a whole new world. -
Time, tiny tulip. I took a spoonful or two of yogurt and that may have helped....

Post surgery rash
Emilie.Lancaster replied to sleevednanny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may be having a reaction to the tape-like substance put over you for the surgery and for the dressings. It happens to me to a small extent. That adhesive is nasty stuff. I put a little tea tree oil on it and it helps. The IV port dressing in the curve of my elbow was the worst. I have friends that every time the epidural patch - which is like 12" by 12" - is on her - she gets a blistered reaction. My understanding is that there is a sheet of this stuff on your abdomen for the surgery. If the antihistamines don't work, then yes - call the doc. -
I know what you mean. I lost a ton of weight years ago - felt more comfortable in my own skin, approached my "prime" turned to my husband then and said - how you like the new body? He said, I don't want to be disingenuous - and would not say he liked it. Yeah, another nail in the coffin. When I lost the weight - I was told I was too thin by some of my male friends - and that may be the crux. Some men like women of a certain type. My ex is dating a girl that looks just like me 15 years ago. It's a real thing. But Bariatric Divorce is a real thing, too. There are tons of articles about it. Like this one about divorce rates skyrocketing after surgery - http://www.healthcentral.com/obesity/c/276918/148486/soar-necessarily/ I can't say what you should do, but you did make this choice to change you, and change has ripples. Whether he feels he can't compare, or if you have changed in more ways that you think, or he can't handle how other people look at you and make comments about your new hottness, or whatever, there you are. I hope this works out for you.

I'm new to sleeve but I have been working on a high protein cookbook of micromeals for years. How does cheesecake sound? 110 cal per slice and 14g protein and cheap and easy to make. (7 bucks worth of ingredients or so, makes 6-8 portions) and SOFT to eat. I'm giving this from memory, so I'm thinking this is right. Into a blender goes 1scoop chocolate protein powder, 2 fat free cottage cheese bricks, 1 c. Fat free cottage cheese, 1 c egg beaters or egg whites, flavoring (can be vanilla, butter nut, almond, etc) a pinch of salt, 1 T. Stevia and 8 packets splenda, 1/4 c. Cocoa powder. Blend completely, scraping down the sides of the blender. Bake in a parchment lined springform pan at 325 until just set. Cool. Enjoy. It's great to have a diet cheesecake on plan for breakfast. Just sayin' -

Well, I overdid it yesterday; paying for it today. I find sitting up on my own is easier, but I am dizzy and the nausea is back. I didn't have to take a nausea pill yesterday. Swallowing is easier. So... I am going to wander over to the couch today and repent. -
I'm also a 12*8. I went to several stores today to get the walking in, then stretched out, face DOWN, on the bed! Wow that felt good. Trying to dial back the painkillers, and the swallowing pain is less all the time. Thinking today about how I will define success... Still not sure.

Question about swallowing
Emilie.Lancaster replied to stepbill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me, too. Sleeved 12/8, and the swallowing is painful, but less each day. They said avoid the straws because you take in more air, but I get better relief from that swallow pain when I DO take in more air. I think because the larger air bubble creates an escape faster. I gotta burp with each sip either way. -
Bowel movements after sleeve surgery
Emilie.Lancaster replied to amandyr1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm new at this, but when my bowels woke after surgery, it was unholy! It was mass evacuation with pushing and shoving. Then, there was silence. Not pooped since, I've had zero solid food yet, so not surprised. I wonder if you are having a reaction to your protein? Splatty poo over and over doesn't sound right. Have you repopulated your colon with live yogurt cultures? Maybe that could help? -

I've turned cauliflower into rice with a box grater. That would cook up nice and soft, right? Also, I like nutritional yeast. It makes salads tast like bread and its loaded with iron and protein. -
Just read about the same thing. It can be from bacteria in the folds of the skin, low-fat diets can change the oil level in skin, or, as we are putting the skin through the ringer with the speed of the weight loss, that fascia is deteriorating. It can take some time to work itself out. But, it will.

Sex & romance post op.
Emilie.Lancaster replied to sebastian2015's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This was the final question to my nurse before surgery. She said, hun, this uses a lot of core muscles, you know? I'm like uh huh, that's why I'm asking. She said well, once the incisions heal up, go gently, but there is a risk for hernia. My husband and I are newlyweds... But 5 days post op, I'd rather fall out of an airplane than make out... Sigh. -
I keep dozing off as I recover and I have this giant flinch that jiggles my whole body. This is new. Anyone else having this fresh new weirdness?
