the YMCA should have a pool, so you can swim year 'round. They'll probably have other water-based exercises as well. I love Water aerobics and especially Aqua Zumba!

It's completely normal to feel nervous right before surgery. you are making a big life change and hey, you're having surgery - any surgery will make someone a little nervous. but the surgery is over relatively quickly and you'll be in the healing phase. Best of luck tomorrow and check back in and let us know how you are doing!

you've gotten some great suggestions for how to handle eating out at restaurants so I don't have anything to add there. So I'll just throw this out there - your family wants to take you out to eat for your birthday, what do YOU want to do to Celebrate your birthday? If you want to go out to eat, great - you have awesome suggestions here. But if you'd rather do something else, suggest another option to your family. I was about 3 months out when my birthday hit and a couple of my friends came to me and said "normally we'd take you out to dinner but is there something else you'd like to do instead?" I was very thankful for that - and decided to go with an activity rather than dinner out. I like going to museums and botanic gardens - mainly because a year ago, I couldn't handle all the standing and walking. So we went to a special event at a local botanical garden. It was good to break the habit of celebrations always revolving around food.
In the end, it's your birthday - Celebrate how you want and enjoy the day!

It has just been a week since your surgery. Your body has been through a huge trauma, and is trying to recover. Also the fluids and gas they pumped into you during the surgery take time to exit your body; in fact, most people gain a little during the surgery process itself.
Just stick to your plan and the scale will start to move soon. I would stay off of the scale for the time being if it is going to upset or discourage you.
    Good luck!

Oh mah gawd...it's the same damned thing that JUST WON'T DIE.
Your feelings being hurt does NOT equal bullying.
Someone laughing about people eating the same CRAP that got them fat in the first week post-op isn't bullying. Nor is telling you it's a colossally stupid idea to eat said CRAP.
If you're sensitive or easily offended or prone to yelling 'mom, he's looking at me' and proclaiming that the entire world is bullying you, Rants and Raves might be a bit much for you.
Some of you are going to need a thicker skin and better sense of humor to survive life in general, let alone participate in an internet message board.

    Sheesh.
I think Rants and Raves shouldn't be included in the regular feed. You should have to intend to click on it, and even possibly have to click through a disclaimer saying you understand that it's Rants and Raves and agree not to get butthurt.

No, not "end of discussion". I didn't say I was going to block newbies, I said I was going to block newbies and ANYONE who comes in guns blazing and name calling. I am here to support people, not to watch someone give good advice and be called an a-hole for doing so.

it's my understanding from seeing some advertisements and looking into them that the basic operating principle is very much like a convection oven. and it isn't just for cooking breaded food. In fact I saw a demo where a turkey breast was roasted in one and also a steak was cooked.
I know QVC also sells them and has a cookbook of recipes using an air fryer.

heidikat72 got a reaction from Hiraeth in My liver enzymes are elevated?
yep it is quite common with rapid weight loss especially with women. the liver enzymes initially go up before coming back down. For some reason, men tend to skip the increase and just have their liver panel come down.
let your surgeon and primary doc know so they can monitor it - you should be getting blood work drawn every couple of months the first year post op anyway and then annually thereafter. So they'll be able to keep an eye on it. Mine on paper looks like it is way above range, but both my primary and surgeon say it would have to be a lot higher than it is for them to even start to be concerned. But it is something that will be checked with each blood panel.

Everyone is different. When I went to a support group, I met a woman who was getting the Bypass. Two weeks after her surgery, we all had another support group, and the woman who had the Bypass hadn't lost a single pound. She was doing everything correctly, and she was so confused as to why she wasn't losing weight. But a month later after that, I met up with her again, and she had lost over 40 pounds. Your body is probably in, what I like to call, "pioneer mode". Right now, your body is probably in a slight panic because it's not used to this new way of eating. It's trying to hold onto every last calorie that it can because it thinks that it's starving. You can't pull your body aside and say, "Hey look, calm down. You're allowed lose weight, because I'm just changing things. Don't worry, you're not dying." Lol.

Make sure you tell your surgeon about your concern and see what he/she thinks.

the unjury vanilla and chocolate i mixed with skim milk and it was like drinking chocolate milk. their chicken Soup flavor mixed with Water was just like drinking broth and made for a nice warm savory change.
the nectar ones are a little thicker - the fruity ones i mixed with crystal lite and actually used a little more than 8oz liquid to thin them down a bit.
Protein shakes are a very personal thing though - what some people hate, others love.

Just an observation here. When you asked, "Is that OK?" You are leaving the door open for all sorts of responses. You should not be surprised if you receive ones that are not to your liking. Believe it or not, they are often the best ones. Eating that type of food so soon after surgery can risk your health as well as sabotage the entire purpose for doing this. Would you be happier if people simply endorsed your behavior?

I tried one of the Bariatric Advantage ones - and promptly threw the rest of the bag of powder in the trash. Undoubtedly the worst Protein powder out there in my opinion!
I mainly stuck to powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and Syntrax nectar since my practice prefers we stick with whey isolate powders. A lot of people like the premier ready to drink shakes - they are whey concentrate so my practice prefers we use them only as a last resort. I do have some occasionally as the "creamer" in my coffee.

heidikat72 got a reaction from Treadmillwalker in Gastric Sleeve for over 210 KG and BMI 70
I'm only 6 months out from sleeve surgery so not a complete success yet! But I'm very pleased with my choice to do sleeve. When I first met with my surgeon exactly one year ago, my BMI was 76! I didn't have to lose weight before surgery but since my insurance required a 6 month medically supervised period, i used that time to gradually make some changes and start very slowly increasing activity. So on surgery day my BMI was ~66. Now 6 months later it is 48 and dropping.
When I started, i couldn't even walk a city block without being completely out of breath, heart racing and in excruciating lower back and knee pain. So yes, my exercise routine started VERY slowly - but you know what? any little bit helps and just very slowly gradually increase activity so you don't injure yourself. even the slightest bit of improvement in that area will make recovery from surgery so much easier. and now? well, in October I hiked over 5 miles in the Great Smoky National Park - broken into 2 smaller hikes on the same day - without ANY problems! Something I couldn't have even dreamed of doing a year ago.
So is sleeve an option for someone with a BMI of 70 or higher - yep absolutely! Ultimately which surgery to have is a decision between you and your doctor. Weigh all the benefits and negatives of each procedure in regard to your particular case and make an informed decision.
Regardless of which route you go - good luck on your journey!

I think with most of the unflavored ones - you might still have a bit of a protein-y taste.
another option is the fruity Syntrax nectar ones - i mixed those with crystal lite lemonade and drank out of a lidded Blender Bottle - that way any smell doesn't really bother you and using an opaque bottle, the cloudy consistency isn't off-putting either. I really liked the ice tea flavor and the cherry flavor mixed with lemonade.

definitely plan to stop at least once during that 4 hr car ride home to stretch your legs a bit (I hope you have someone to drive you, most hospitals won't release you to drive yourself home). I had a little over an hour car ride home and braced a pillow against my abdomen. The slight pressure helped with any bumpy rough Patches of road
