  1. woo hoo - this morning at my appointment with my primary doc, we stopped the last hbp med I was on (stopped the main one months ago). I officially no longer have a diagnosis of hypertension!

  2. For probably the first time in my adult life, not only did I not gain weight between Christmas and New Year - I actually lost 2.6lbs! While I did choose to stray from plan a bit, I didn't lose total control. Yeah sleeve!

Congrats! I had the same experience and have been getting a good chuckle by not being involved in the work conversations about holiday weight gain...

HK72, "adult" seems to be the operative word.

@Chrmow, that smug feeling can taste as good as a dozen gingerbread men.

  3. Having lunch today with two guys I used to work with and haven't seen since March so pre-surgery and about 120lbs ago. Should be interesting to see if they notice a difference. One knows about the surgery and has seen a relatively recent pic (from vacation in October). And I think he may have told the other about the surgery. Should be an interesting lunch in a lot of ways!

Oh they noticed I'm sure they had a lot to say once you left and nothing better then the exit... Love it! Did you glance over the shoulder too? lol

      heidikat72

haha I thought about doing the "glance back" like Loretta Devine in Waiting to Exhale as she's sashaying away from Gregory Hines whispering "he better not be watching me walk away, (glance) oh, he's watching me walk away". But we actually stopped in the parking lot and Jeff said bye, and Scott stood there and kept talking (very typical of him) until I twice had to say I have a meeting so I have to get back to work. But I'm sure the guys were texting the rest of the afternoon and probably including our friend Jason who wasn't able to make it to lunch. But it was nice to have lunch with the guys I used to eat lunch with every day for over a year. The only thing I miss about that company is a handful of people.

  5. It really is the little things that mean the most. Spent the holiday with one of my nephews and his family. Managed to go to the Christmas theme at the local amusement park and walked over 5 miles. This was something I had to bail on them for last year because there was no way I could do it. That was my final straw that made me go through with the surgery. While I struggled to keep pace with his wife zipping back and forth all over the park (man, she uses that stroller like a deadly weapon! ha!), I did it. But even something as simple as running around their backyard with the 5yr old and 2yr old just made my day. Truly blessed.

  6. ugh, not only do i need a vacation change of scenery, i clearly need a week off from here too.

My sports med doc who injected my shoulder all last year has 2 young children...he buys his own bandaids and lets his kids pick them. I'm usually sporting either a Disney princess of some sort or a nice Superhero (I prefer Superman or Batman, being old-school) :)

I knew this myself. I've been drinking a bit every morning with coffee at work. I found it at Sam's and have been back a couple of times already. It sure satisfies a sweet craving with very little calories and added protein.

      @Rebecca66

I did half cup coffee, a protein shake and ice in the blender. YUM. Took me a long time to finish it, but in a Tervis tumbler, it stayed slushy like.

  10. had to retire a pair of jeans over the weekend. they actually almost fell off at work on friday - can't be showing my ass at work like that - well not literally anyway! and to think - in may, i couldn't even come close to buttoning and zipping those suckers!

@Dub - yes fortunately it was something I could just laugh off and a good reminder of my progress - had several of those reminders last week!

@LL - I certainly get the be disciplined aspect of martial arts, but damn a 100 push ups? that's just adding insult to an already embarassing situation. although I bet you made sure from then on that your pants wouldn't fall down in class again!

  15. Had my 3 month post op appointment this morning. New nutritionist since mine went to another hospital and doesn't work with my surgeon anymore. Down 47.5lbs since surgery. Nutritionist was not impressed, said that was at the very low end of how much I should have lost by now. Yet she couldn't come up with anything I should change to increase it. Surgeon, however, was pleased with my progress to date. Thinking I need to find another nutritionist but I'd like to stay within my surgeon's practice.

      suzzzzz

That is a great loss in 3 mths! The non impressed nutritionist needs some training in working with people. Someone who is supportive and helpful always motivates me more than negativity. Be proud of yourself.

I'm not seeing the Nut that is associated with the area's bariatric program. I saw her just once. She told me that she had never had a client who was five years out and "we would just have to wing it". Well, NO THANK YOU. I don't have the patience to be anyone's guinea pig. I found a Reg. Dietician who has a background in bariatrics. She has been most helpful to me. Maybe looking around---asking for a local Reg. Dietician who is bariatric friendly. Just a thought...

  16. took my first yoga class this morning! 5:45am is very early to be awake, dressed, alert and out of my house. but was worth it - ended up being a private session so she had time to show me modifications of poses for my beginner level

    1. Christinamo7

      Christinamo7

did you enjoy it? I find my yoga/stretching times to be some of the most relaxed parts of my week, and I always feel so much better once I have a good session. I can sure tell if I have not done it in a while.

it was rough but I know it will get easier and more relaxing as my flexibility improves. Looking forward to starting my mondays off that way

  17. while in the waiting room before my blood draw this morning, had an elderly gentleman tell me I was the best looking thing he'd seen all morning. Made my day. His wife, however, did not seem pleased. haha

Dub - you are not old, this guy was at least 80 - in other words, old enough to be my father. But he was very sweet. As for the blood draw - this was to finish collecting what they couldn't get out of me yesterday. My body simply does not like to give up blood. So yesterday after 4 sticks, they only got the two large vials drawn. This morning, another 4 sticks and managed to get the remaining 5 small vials. ugh. not a fun process so the compliment from my admirer was definitely appreciated!

    3. WLSResources/ClothingExch

      WLSResources/ClothingExch

HeidiKat, ignore @Dub because, when I saw your entry, I determined to say "You gotta love the older men." Dub is just being foolish. He needs more seasoning and I don't mean that in the sense the pup usually means.

    4. Valentina

      Valentina

I'm sure his wife is more than used to your admirer's antics. She probably tried to set him straight once again---when they got home. All in all, she is likely feeling loved and fortunate to still have him with her for so many years. Elder love---love to see it.

  18. so much for hoping weightloss would make my blood draws easier (I've always had a hard time getting blood work drawn, iv's started etc). Had my usual phlebotomist this morning and she said my veins are the worst they've ever been. couldn't even finish the blood draw - didn't even get half the vials she needed. So back to the lab tomorrow morning. ugh

      heidikat72

so back at the lab this morning. another 4 sticks but managed to get the remaining 5 vials of blood...ugh. at least I have another 3 months before going through that again. and yep - pediatric needles/butterfly. my blood just slowly drips and then stops flowing and clots. they really need to figure out how to do these tests with less blood - 7 vials (2 large and 5 small) is an awful lot.

    4. OzRoo

      OzRoo

Glad it came out OK today. Yes, that's a lot of vials, and I dread those tests. Agree, I too wish less blood was needed for these tests!

My arm still has a giant black bruise from my Monday test :(

  19. woo hoo This morning I easily slipped into pants two sizes smaller than what i wore this time last year!

  21. Stressful two weeks. First, my former employer (I was laid off June 30th) has breached our signed severance agreement and I've had to hire a lawyer to figure out how to deal with it, tomorrow I have a job interview in Maryland that I'm having second thoughts about and this weekend, I'll be seeing my family for the first time since Christmas - which was a disaster and effectively ended my relationship with my mother and brother. . But I'm going down to VA for my great niece's birthday because I refuse to let my issues with mom and bro destroy my relationship with my nephews and their families. But eek! So much stress and anxiety. Only good thing is I haven't turned to food so far.

  22. so after gaining 3lbs in 1.5 weeks after stopping my main blood pressure med (I tried very hard not to freak out over it because I knew it was mostly retained fluid from not having a diuretic anymore), I am glad to say those 3lbs are gone and the scale is moving down again.

    1. Christinamo7

      Christinamo7

it takes a while for the body to adjust. I know. I just went off Hctz.

    2. heidikat72

      heidikat72

yeah i know which is why i kept talking myself out of freaking out. it was just frustrating because i was so close to being under 330 - which is the lowest i got to in 2012 when i lost a signficant amount of weight...and then put it al back on and then some. hard not to let thoughts of "you'll never get below that" creep in. i really want to be under 300 by year's end

    3. Christinamo7

      Christinamo7

I hear ya! and I sure hope, and I think you will be. I just had a 2 month (TWO MONTH) stall. but thankfully it was just UNDER the 200 pound mark. if I had stalled so long at say 201 - what difference is it really? but emotionally it would have been gut wrenching!

  23. apparently I don't sweat like I used to - thank goodness. Spent saturday afternoon outside (99 degrees here in philly area, heat index well over 100), touring Fordhook Farm - a local garden and research facility for the Burpee seed company. Barely broke a sweat, drank plenty of water. 3 hrs walking around, no knee or back pain either. LIFE IS GOOD!!!

    1. Christinamo7

      Christinamo7

it sure is life changing, isn't i? I have to admit. anything over 90 still bothers me, but it is a far cry from before surgery! Life IS good.

    2. Kari1985

      Kari1985

That's amazing! I've noticed this as well. I'm always cold now as well, driving my husband crazy that I'm bundled up under a blanket when it's 75 in the house!

  24. Had my 6 week post op follow up (I'm actually 7.5 weeks post op) with the surgeon this morning. we discussed my progress not just since surgery but overall since my first appointment last december. He actually started to tear up he was so happy with how far I've come and when he told me how amazed he was, i teared up too. We had a good little happy cry right there in the exam room. Hard to believe this time last year I could barely walk a block without being in excruciating pain. Now I'm down 111lbs overall and 33 since surgery and feel pretty darn good!

  25. woohoo! I can stop my main blood pressure med altogether as of today! 4 weeks ago we cut the dosage in half but I was still having dizzy spells and bp was down to 90/54 this morning. Major victory that I didn't expect to happen so soon.
