MikeyS 455 got a reaction from krazy kat in Post op regrets topics - not popular
I'm 2 months and 10 days post op and don't regret my decision at all I had vsg sugery and I made up my mind before I had the surgery. it was the best decision for me I'm no longer on my diabetic meds or b p meds or even my colestrole meds . I've stopped smoking and have lots of energy and my knees and back doesn't bother me as much now that I'm loosing weight so I'm healthier now than I've been in years

Prior to my surgery, my friends and I bought tickets to a booze cruise on the Hudson River for this Saturday night. I won't be able to partake in the open bar anymore which I am a little disappointed about.
I'm worried about my friends asking questions about why I'm not drinking. No one knows I've had the surgery, nor do I want them to know. My go-to drink has always been a vodka tonic with extra lime. I will instead order a Water with lime, so hopefully no one will realize that I'm not drinking. Don't get the wrong idea about my friends... they won't care whether I drink or not. They're awesome. BUT, they will have questions: Am I sick, do I need to go home, every hour asking if I'm feeling okay. I just want to enjoy the night without having to blatantly lie to their faces.
Although I'm disappointed that I won't be able to partake like I have in the past, I'm keeping my eye on my longterm future rather than just this weekend.

I went out all the time before surgery, and I still go out now. I eat what I can, and offer the rest to friends and family or save it for another day. It has improved my social life because I am more confident, talkative, and much happier

I was 412 day of surgery. 414 was my highest weight. I had an absolutely easy and painfree surgical experience. I was achy & sore but not ever truly in pain.
I hope you read the previous post. They had some really great info. What you can expect is:
Check in day of surgery, get arm bands, etc... then you sit in a waiting room until they call you back. The surgeon and medical team (anesthesiologist, etc...) may come out and introduce themselves. A nurse will give you an IV and have you put on a gown. When it's time you most likely will walk into the OR. Some hospitals wheel you in, but walking is not uncommon. The OR will look a little intimidating. Keep in mind OR's are set up to accommodate a lot of various types of surgery. Not all the equipment is for you, but there will be a lot. You will get on the operating table. It will look tiny. There will be 3 or 4 people in the OR, if students are allowed maybe one more. They will likely be gowned and masked. They will clip a pulse oximeter on your finger, a blood pressure cuff and hook the IV up. *I recommend practicing taking slow, deep breathes to help calm and center you. This is the point where people sometimes get nervous and the deep breathing can help that. They put the mask on your face and ask you to start counting backwards. You will be out quickly. After that you wake up in recovery. You will feel like you slept 5 minutes. If you are like me, you feel really refreshed. Propofol is typically used for this type of surgery and there's a reason why Michael Jackson was addicted to it. Some sleeve patients wake up in pain. If you do, let your team know and they can help with meds to control it. In prep for post-op life I recommend:
Practice walking and increasing how far and how long you can walk. If you can also strengthen your core. Eating very slowly (30 mins or more with each meal) and taking super tiny bites & swallows. Quit sodas & caffeine.

Life improved drastically for me after I was able to start eating 'real' food. I'm 7 weeks out and I feel normal (whatever that is!) except when I grocery shop, because I spend a LOT of time reading labels. Congratulations on completing your surgery!

You're taking my statement personally. I'm not directing it towards you. Go pick a fight with someone else.
However, allow me to summarize my initial post:
-No complications, easy recovery (to answer your question, that is my "experience in the matter")
-Therefore, from my perspective (i.e. "experience in the matter") the horrible recoveries that are discussed over and over and over on this board were over-hyped. As another poster mentioned, people with easy recoveries do not post since there is no story to tell.
I've read your story in another post. It sounds horrible. I'm sorry for the pain that you've gone through. But my experience was different from yours, thus my perspective is also different from yours. My experience, my perspective, and my post do not diminish or take away from your experience or your perspective.
So once again, stop taking my statement personally. Pick a fight with someone else.
    Best.

Exactly! You made a decision that you felt best for you and have had great medical results! Now that is good news!
I made a decision that was wrong for me and have had the opposite effects.

The reason people comment is complex. Some just want an argument. Some dislike my refusal to be driven away. Some simply find it confusing that I am willing to say clearly that this surgery is not for everyone.
Your post is a common one. I don't need "help" to "get through" something that is impossible to change. The stomach is gone. I could have lost weight myself. This surgery proved it.
The reason I have lost the majority of my excess weight is because I am starving. I am only able to ingest 300 to 400 cals most days and due to constant diarrhea, lose as much liquid as I take in.
Some of us stuck to our pre op 800 cal diet because we had to to get what we wanted, surgery.
What we don't like to admit is that some of us could have tried harder without altering our body permanently.
And some of us just won't like the changes we are forced to make post op.
I am brave enough to say that regardless of how unpopular this topic is.
Again, I ask, how would you want me to feel?
My actual opinion doesn't suit you, so what feeling do you want me to have?
I could lie to the world here and say, I love my sleeve, this is great! I eat loads of Protein, don't mind the constant runs, food revulsion, etc
But then someone like me, who was looking for advice, might just think we all love our sleeves.
Thank you for highlighting this problem with your contribution!

I didnt bring so much, just what I was told would be necessary. Ibrought my cpap machine, med card and ID, cell phone and charger, and a light jacket. I wore home what I wore to hospital and everything I needed was supplied. I had to wear their nonslip socks and the gown. Was given plenty of warm blankets and other things. You will sleep much of the time. I didn't even go on Facebook much. I just texted family and friends who knew and watched jeopardy a couple of times. I wanted to watch the Rio games but I had no energy for that. I was given heat packs, meds, and pretty much all that I really needed (even chamomile tea). I was even given a pillow to use in the car on the way home. It's now my car pillow when I go in the car (I'm 5 days past surgery). Best of luck on your surgery!!!

Why are you so upset over other members telling you what they found helpful when they went to the hospital? That is normally why one wold post on these forums, for suggestions from other. Guess you just wanted everyone to know that you can pack a hospital bag.

Wow what an attitude. Best of luck with your sugery. We're supposed to support each other. You just might learn something from people who have already gone through this, and yes everyone's going to be different. I wish you all the best in the future, doesn't sound like you're going to have much of a support system on here with your attitude. . This is no walk in the park, and you can not do this without support. God bless Sent from my SM-S902L using the BariatricPal App

I am dying here. D'Sleeved may need to change her forum name if she ever wants to post again! LOL Did anyone pay attention to how many likes the POSITIVE comments got? I too brought all those things and never used any of them. In fact, I have a brand new box of Biotene still unopened. I preferred crunching ice chips to wet my mouth.

You know I wasn't going to say anything else but you are being absolutely ridiculous!
My dear if you keep running into drama on the forums, you ever stop to think hmmmm....maybe it's you. No one was being rude or manipulative as you said but simply offering assistance and telling you their experience. I'm sooooo glad you have the support you need and I also pray that you aren't so harsh with them. I also tend to believe those that are sooooooo happy with their lives don't feel the need to have to say it constantly. While I hope you are truly happy, I doubt it..
In the words on the late great Michael Jackson (because I know I shouldn't even respond to this)..I'm starting with the man in mirror, I'm asking him to change his ways and I urge you to do the same.
The best of luck to you on your journey..
I will now return to my joyless life.
    Peace, love and happiness.

If you don't want thoughts and opinions, don't post on public forums. I will post where I like, when I like.
You posted first, inviting opinion. Exactly why are you posting if you don't want people to support you?
Everyone, including myself, have only simply tried to help you.
As for the rest of the nastiness you spat in my direction, I shall simply ignore it and put it down to the stress of your pre op diet and upcoming surgery.
I know how hard it is to stick to a liquid diet, you must be having an effect on your emotions.
