  1. I'll be 4 months post-op this week. Down 50 lbs, loads of inches, several sizes. I've been too busy celebrating my victories to notice I "only" dropped 4 lbs this past month. Proud of myself for not getting frustrated and focusing on the gains, not the scale! Working the program and its working for me. A little anxious that some say the honeymoon period only lasts 6 months and I'm closing in on that. I hope I have the strength to maintain my new habits as things get harder, as quite frankly this has been so easy for me so far. Ahhh so many changes! But life is good! Thanks BP for providing a place to vent and teaching me so much.

If/when your rate of loss slows more than you'd like, remind yourself of your current pride in not caving in to frustrations. Here's a wise quote I found: "...focusing on the gains, not the scale!" Let that carry you all the way.

My surgeon informed me that it was really the 6- 12 month period (maybe longer-can't recall) that was the true honeymoon phase. Shocked the heck out of me when he said that! Yes, we see big drops those first 6 months, but after, it is your work, eating and using your tool that makes the biggest impact on loss- your body is no longer doing it on its own but you in CONJUNCTION with the surgery.

      You are rocking this!!!!

  2. It may or may not apply to you, but I found that the type of roast doesn't affect me. Some brands that are most ordinary (Maxwell, e.g., and another used in an office) gave me stomachaches. @@higher - Uncle Google will provide whatever is available immediately. I'm well aware of the existence of Google, although I'm not related, thank you. I thought maybe the OP or someone here could elaborate on their experience with caffeine related malabsorption specific to WLS.

Yeah you guys, flannels are just not sexy! I am going to order a pair of flannel pjs anyway and I am sure I WGAF once I see how warm they are. I am looking at The Company Store and they seem to rank comforters by warmth level. Anyone have any experience with those? I am sure the super warm one are sooooo heavy and hard to wash but they look joyous. They have a 25% off sale now too. http://www.thecompanystore.com/bedding-comforters/legends-luxury-geneva-rds-down-comforter/c2r9-ps-h16.html#start=1

Going to google cuddle duds. Sounds warm! Thanks for the tips @@LipstickLady @@FunkyMunkyBrat @@ShelterDog64 I am maybe irrationally terrified those will start a fire, but also I have a really luxurious down feather bed I am loathe to replace....but thanks for the tip! Maybe when it gets even colder I'll just be like screw it and get one.

Twice? Damn. I live in Upstate NY, and I want so bad to go, but those ticket prices are ridiculous. Yeah, don't pay scalpers! The prices are absurd. I actually got to go for free when it was in previews because an ex intern of mine who looked up to me and remembered me fondly was in charge of their house seats. He offered them to me out of nowhere. The moral of that story is to be kind to your interns- you never know where they'll end up!!!

I used to sleep naked with my windows cracked in the dead of winter. It's October and I'm in head to toe sweats wishing I had a balaclava to warm my face while I sleep.
  7. Caffeine interferes with nutrient absorption? Can someone post more info on that?
  8. Sorry about the second surgery. That does sound very traumatic for your system. Hope you feel better soon.
  9. @rolodmom7 yes I've seen Teavanas. That's a pity about tea. Is it hot and iced that doesn't sit well? Ginger is really a miracle worker for me when I'm nauseous. I used to rely on ginger candy but since getting sleeved I've avoided it because of the sugar. I carry it for an emergency though. The only thing that works faster on nausea for me is pot. But that has side effects!
  10. Ginger is my absolute go to for tummy problems and nausea. Ginger tea is the easiest sleeve friendly solution I would suggest. there are also broths with ginger.

    Hair?

I'm using Phytocane serum as a scalp treatment at the moment. I've had success with it leading to new growth in the past, but I guess I'll see how it works for WLS hair loss. I love the way it smells and my hair has good volume and softness to it when I use it.
  12. Check check and check to the first three. Totally eye banged one of my favorite performers from the side of the stage just two weeks ago. More minor victories though than I ever would have imagined. Like today I went to a function and happily posed for a multitude of Polaroids and then eagerly viewed each and every one over and over. This party was filled with extremely attractive people and I was still the fattest by far, but I didn't feel like the fat girl sticking out at all. I looked really good, rocked a hot dress and had a great time.

    Face weight loss

You can get retinol from a dermatologist, but sounds like what you really need are injectable fillers. Just make sure you go to someone who is a real artist about it.

    Hair?

I'm only 3 months out and haven't noticed more hair loss than usual yet. But a few years back I had bad loss and started taking biotin and silica. I grew more hair on my body like crazy- and in places I never had before. OMG so awful. I've since paid thousands for laser hair removal.

That's awesome! What a great NSV. I haven't seen the special but have seen the show twice. I will admit the songs get stuck in my head sometimes!
  16. At just over 3 months out, I have to say I still have a drink or two at least once a week. I think it does pass through my system much more quickly, which is...interesting. Not so much that it hits me more, but I sober up faster.
  17. My surgeon prescribed a liquid PPI for 3 months post-op, which I found annoying to take and to be honest I probably forgot to take it at least two days a week. Once the 3 months was up, my doc asked me if I had heartburn or acid and I said no so they said I didn't have to continue the PPI. Once I stopped though, I developed a post-nasal drip, a persistent cough, and lost my voice a few times. I thought it was seasonal allergies, which is common for me, but researched a bit to see if it was sleeve related and it seems like it may be symptoms of GERD. So I started taking a daily OTC Prilosec last week and haven't had an issue since. I think what @@OutsideMatchInside says about overeating is correct. I have had a couple of times where I was out to eat, probably eyeballed my portions wrong (ok, definitely) and got really tired and went to bed with an overly full stomach. Woke up each time with no voice and a cough. Hopefully I can get that in check and not have to stay on the Prilosec for too long.
  18. Hi there @@ella37 I had a very easy recovery as well and was just as paranoid. I even made a thread about it! http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/372467-ok-i-have-to-askare-things-going-too-well-am-i-overdoing-it/ Now I am 3 months out and everything is still going smoothly. Just getting easier as the days go on.

    Constipation

@@cuteNATL heh, no problem. Constipation seems to be a near universal problem for us WLS patients. The probiotic I've been taking is culturelle - my GI doc said it is the most well studied and effective probiotic on the market. I take it in the morning and then take the softener before bed. Ideally I won't have to take anything, but I'm only 3 months out and haven't been able to squeeze in many fruits and veggies yet. I think those would make all the difference.
  20. 3 months out and I feel great. It's all been a good experience for me so far. Will I feel the same way in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years? Hard to tell. I hope so!

    Dermabrasion After Weight Loss

Good dermatologists don't even do dermabrasion or chemical peels anymore, they do laser treatments and hydrofacials. If your skin is sagging you might be better off with something injectable that can fill it in like Juvederm Voluma, which makes a big difference but somehow looks natural/subtle when applied by a really skilled doc.
  22. Yeah, I ended up keeping it a total secret. Leaned heavily on this forum- could not have managed without Bariatric Pal. All my friends are family are incredibly supportive and positive because they all they see is me eating small healthy portions, exercising and dropping weight and they love that. I think I saved myself a lot of trouble by keeping it to myself.
  23. You should call the hotel and ask if they can put a fridge in the room for your stay. Many hotels that don't have them in the room DO have portable mini fridges on hand to accommodate guest requests. Or they'll offer to place a cooler and fill it with ice for you. Worth checking.

    Question about meat ?

I was allowed meat at that point as well. You can try rotisserie chicken, the dark meat is especially soft and easy. Pulled chicken or pork. I had no issues with tougher denser proteins like grilled chicken and steak.
