  1. Hi Team July! I was sleeved lucky 7/7. I am still thrilled with my decision. As of today I'm down 40 lbs which far far exceeded my expectations for where I would be at so soon post op. I have exponentially more energy than I did pre-op and am loving life. My only struggle is with sleep! But I'm working on it.

    Sushi after surgery?

Yes sushi without rice is called sashimi. They usually serve it with a side of rice. I am a sashimi freak hehe. Yes, and rolls without rice are called naruto rolls. They wrap the fish in thin slices of cucumber instead of rice and seaweed.

@@LipstickLady yeah, and cheese. I probably left out some cheese on my list as well. Cheese for president.

    Grocery List Suggestions?

I just went shopping. I live alone and don't love to cook so I've been on the lookout for a lot of healthy, clean looking pre-cooked lean Proteins. The easier it is to grab something, portion it out and eat it the less likely I am to make stupid choices. And at 9 weeks out stupid choices more than likely means not eating anything for an entire day or only eating cheese. So here's the lazy single persons list for ya: Fage yogurt Pre cooked Applegate farms grilled chicken breast, plain and fajita flavor Atkins ranch frozen lamb patties (only ingredient is ground lamb, salt and pepper) BratHans chicken burgers (these are quickly becoming a favorite...microwave them for 1 minute) Individually packed 4% Cottage cheese Cold brew coffee Cabot seriously sharp cheese Snacks Babybel cheese Fairlife milk (has extra protein) Electrolyte enhanced Water Saucy Fish Co lime & cilantro pre cooked salmon fillets Turkey perky Jerky And some brie cheese because I'm a sucker for it All of that will last me over 2 weeks pretty much. I also got some pineapple and strawberry today because I want to try and work small amounts of fruit into my daily diet. Total cost today was like $113.

    Sushi after surgery?

I had sashimi and naruto rolls pretty early on post op- by 3-4 weeks it was allowed on my plan. I don't miss the rice and without it, it's a solid high protein rchoice for our post op diet!
  6. 9 weeks out here. I have a digital food scale that gets used whenever I eat or prepare food at home. The Blender Bottle was a godsend for when I was traveling in the earlier stages. I already had a vitamix blender and I do use it for the occasional protein drink or smoothie but easily could have relied on pre made shakes as well.

Bananas are NOT a low carb food

Does that knowledge come from experience? I always thought the old adage was pineapple and watermelon! I been drinking....watermelon.DRINKING watermelon? Oh. I didn't know that was how we were supposed to use it.... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App ????

Bananas are NOT a low carb food

Is it really like candy if 1/2 a cup is 8.7 net carbs ? I can probably only squeeze in 1/3 or 1/4 cup alongside my Protein at this early stage anyway so I might go for it. I'll alternate with the berries. And lots and lots of fluids. Gotta stay sweet! Priorities...

    Sardines

Wait until you're allowed to have soft fish. They're a good choice for when you can! I love em.

  11. I had amenorrhea pre-op but so far had two completely normal periods since surgery 9 weeks ago. Exactly the kind I used to get before I started gaining a few years ago - 4-5 days w/ two that are heavier than the rest. So if this keeps up I would say that surgery totally restored my cycle to compete normalcy!

    I Love Tim Gunn

@@heidikat72 Isaac Mizrahi is exactly the kind of designer Tim Gunn is clamoring for. He literally gave up high fashion to design for the masses at Target and then QVC and profited massively from it. Way more money than he was making selling mink trimmed skirts size 0-8 at Bergdorfs. One of my favorite designers of all time. His mother and aunts were big and they were his first customers.

I should add that if mine aren't totally vanished by 6 months pre-op I'll have them lasered off.

He's such a doll. I love him too. He really dgaf about isolating himself from all of the fashion elite.

    Actigall

I take it twice a day as well, starting immediately post op. Except my surgeon wants me to do it for 6 months- not 3. I hope it works!

    Scar treatment

My dermatologist gave me biocorneum cream for my incisions. My scars flattened out about a week or so of use and now I'm just watching for them to fade. Sometimes I place a silicone scar away sheet on top of the biocorneum to hold it all in place.

    Sleep Study

I am sure I have sleep apnea - bedmates have observed me stop breathing in my sleep going back to before I was overweight at all. It was also observed during my endoscopy. My surgeon and I both wanted a sleep study pre-op but my insurance denied it on 3 appeals. That said - when I met with the anaesthesiologist at my pre-surgical appointment I told him I believed I had apnea and we discussed his method for dealing with that. He also examined and photographed my anatomy. It IS important to discuss this with your anaesthesiologist. They ARE used to working with apnea sufferers because many obese people have it, but definitely definitely raise the point. I need to look into what the sleep study would cost me out of pocket, but for $500 I would go for it. A CPAP machine can help you sleep better and that in turn can help with your weight loss. Fascinating - can you get an rx for a CPAP based on a home study?
  19. I'm 8-900 most days at 9 weeks out. Some days I go up to 1100. No idea how you all keep your calories so low! My biggest fear is that I will screw up my metabolism and have to maintain at 1000 calories or lower when I am done losing weight.
  20. @@jwitchy65 I'm 2 months post op and I had the same experience. I'm still waiting for something bad to happen! Never had any nausea, visiting, uncomfortable feeling, etc. All food has gone down easy. Some of us just heal really well, or had particularly talented surgeons or whatever. Don't sweat it.
  21. I'm a lifelong hay fever and other allergy sufferer and I know this will sound so tired but seriously the neti pot and saline nasal sprays have been life changing for me at clearing out congestion. But when all else fails - sudafed.
  22. When was the last time you spoke to your gynecologist about this? Make an appointment and discuss these issues with them. They can certainly let you know if you are ovulating or not. I too had pregnancy on my mind when I was deciding to have WLS. I had not had my period in a year. No PCOS either. I have been regular again since surgery thankfully. I am shocked by how rapidly that happened for me and curious to see if it continues as I move forward in my journey. I'm looking into freezing my eggs so I can focus on my health and put off pregnancy until I am at my goal weight and maintaining and am really excelling at my new healthier lifestyle.

    Can we talk carbs?

Fascinating thread. I can't eat rice or wheat so I'm limited to mostly corn based carbs, in addition to fruits and vegetables etc. I'm fairly focused on trying to increase the fruits and veggies in my diet right now, I just can't wrap my head around nutrition without those two food groups. But as many have said it is difficult to just get in enough Protein. So other carbs (corn) are on the back burner for now. I think I've lost weight rapidly post-op eating mostly protein and fat but it is not a diet I wish to maintain for life.
