  1. I am 7 weeks post RNY and I am stalled, even gained 1.5 lbs. I am following my NUT directions with little variation. Dr and NUT aren't much help. I searched to see what I could find. I came across a post on this site regarding stalls. This website provided the best insite to what was happening. I hope it helps others as well. Stay the course! We will get there.

  2. That's interesting that your doc has never mentioned Iron supplements. Did you have RNY or gastric sleeve performed?

I had RNY- just had 7-week post-op and they mentioned nothing about additional Iron.< /div>
Are you taking any supplements, Protein, etc? Iron absorption in a normal GI tract is only 5-15%. Post RNY your risk of malabsorption is greatly increased and could lead to many adverse health effects.

Personally, I'd follow up with my nutritionist (at the least) and confirm they don't want you to take any iron supplements.

I am taking a multi Vitamin twice a day, Calcium, B-12, and Biotin. I guess whenever the doc requires blood work, we will find out if I need iron. I do need to contact my Nutritionist, so I will ask her about additional iron just to ward off any potential issues. Thanks.

  3. Someone today asked if I had lost weight (I'm a newbie, so only 25 so far). I told him not really, just a different hair cut and color. He is now going to wonder if it was his imagination. But then there are others who ask, but with a cynical edge. Almost like they want you to fail? Misery loves company. Or maybe jealousy that I have chosen to do something to get healthier? Either way, i go with as vague an answer as I can. Or to borrow a bit from Shrek, "better off then on"

  4. Congrats on your decision and good luck on your journey. I understand the friends/family who are unwilling to talk. Some may not be educated on WLS, and have a mindset against it. The stigma of surgery- you know the ole' cop out. At least that is what my sister in law calls it. It happened to be a passing conversation in a general context, so she has no clue I had it done. Needless to say, I won't be telling her! And the three friends who do know, mention nothing. Even my sister has never asked if commented on it. Her only comment was "I hope it does what you want it to" in a snide tone. Yup. Conversation ended. At least my husband is supportive and understanding. At least with this forum, we are all losers! (Weight, that is!) ????

  5. I recently had RNY. For the plan my Nut put me on post-op, they recommend the amount of liquid and Protein, but in the very beginning, you do what you can. You will gradually increase your amounts as well as add in different textures every few weeks. I have not had any problem getting my liquids in, including Protein shakes. My friends who had the sleeve have had issues consuming the liquid required. As for the Protein Shakes, I find them very convenient when you are out and about. My daughter, who's in college has started using them when she has no time to stop and get a meal. Not sure why you can only use them 2-weeks.

Also, when incorporating new foods, it is amazing what your body will accept and reject. At least if you have shakes, you are guaranteed to get 20-30g of protein. Good luck!

  6. I feel your pain. I am 5 weeks out and will be adding other foods next week. I'm afraid I'll fall into the same ol' rut and not eat anything new for fear of gaining it all back. Old habits die hard! Also how do I know I am keeping to the 800 calories? I have never been good at journaling my food.

  7. Hello fellow fabulous 50's! What a great group of people. I had RNY on 11/17/15. So far, so good. I am on semi soft foods and still figuring out what I can and can't eat. Also still struggling with not much of an appetite, and having guilt when I do eat. I guess that is normal at this point.

My next concern is going to be the long term. When I can basically eat anything, but I am concerned I will! I would hate to gain wait before I even lose it. I guess after dieting for 30 years, losing and then gaining it all back, dozens of times, it is ingrained in me to worry about that. Fortunately, my husband has been so supportive and patient with me through it all.

Any seasoned WLSers out there who can provide guidance on the daily diet, I would appreciate it. I have no clue. The suggested menu from the Nut, has mostly things I would never eat, RNY or not.

  8. While on the Puree/liquid diet I didnt really have a full feeling like I was used to before RNY. I was able to consume much more than what Nutrition and the surgeon stated. That was the Puree/Liquid only!!! Let me tell you once the real food comes back even just the soft It is a different story entirely. The FULL feeling is so different than what I was used to. to me it is a Tightness. Or a fullness but Different. I dont realy know how to explain it. Weird thing was I was able to consume 8 - 12oz of creamed Soup or a can of V-8 no problem. I have no problem with fluids whatsoever. But I cannot handle much more than 1/4 cup of food... It is so weird. You will know..

Thanks big guy. I was worried as I can drink liquids without hesitation. At least I know I am not alone there. Haven't really eaten too much since I am still on purée but I hope the full feelings happen then!

  9. I am only 2-weeks post op, but giving my very limited experience, I would say your body did not like what you ate. I tried cottage cheese the other day. 1st time since surgery. My intestines felt like a racetrack. Must have been NASCAR with all the bumping and rumbling going on. Very much as you described. So maybe your insides didn't want Greek yogurt? Good luck.

  10. From what I hear, it is standard on the RNY. My Dr. Said they want the intestines clean to help prevent infection. So not as clean as a colonoscopy, but enough to clear the part they deal with. At least you start this journey clean as a whistle. Not to mention, many people complain about Constipation. You know it won't be an issue for a while! ????

  11. I am 11-days post RNY and don't have the full feeling yet either. I have heard from others it will come. My problem is the scale has moved in a negative direction (yay) but when I put on pants, the wasteband is tighter then before! I understand they mixed things up in there, but I can't wait for the swelling to go down. It does not feel like it is the gas like from the first week. Anyone have a timeline on the swelling?

  12. I'm 10 days post RNY, and I currently have no full-signal either. My friends who have the sleeve said it took a month or two to get the full feeling. I can't wait. I am eating very slowly and just kind of wait for the burp, followed by the hiccups. I guess it is all of the learning process.
