Well it sure sounds like you had a fantastic experience other than the nausea! That is one thing I am real worried about too is the nausea since I get that often now anyways. Zophran is my friend!

I think the energy level is so low due to all the loss of foods and Protein loss and the fact that you can't drink a bunch of Water. Not to mention all the trauma and healing your having to do. I think you've done fabulous!

I have another friend who has told me about the mood swings so I'm thinking that's pretty normal unfortunately. I'm an emotional person also so I can't imagine how bad that will be for me! Oy! Lol.

I too love to sit around and munch. Everything I do seems to revolve around where or what to eat. It's gonna be hard redoing what we are so programmed to do daily. I'm even worried about no coffee!!! I can't even function or talk without it! Talk about becoming emotional! Omg!

I am so happy you had such a positive and successful experience with all of this so far. I wish you all the luck!!! How much do you need to lose? I hope you reach your goal and I know you will! We are here for you if you feel your sipping or sad or just need a word of encouragement! Never forget that! You got this!!!????

  3. Welcome Sarahkc! I have heard of this doctor but didn't know that much. That's fantastic you had such a wonderful experience! That's just how it should be!

How did your surgery itself go and your healing and pain? How many weeks did they have you off till you went back to work?

Your doctor sounds a lot like mine! My doctor is always doing seminars and research. His team is great also! Sure makes you feel better about it that's for sure!

You sound like your doing really well so far and have a good outlook on it! You've lost apt so far. How much do you want to lose?

Where about in Pgh are you located?

Thank you so much for joining in and giving us your information! It al helps and I love hearing from people out there! Especially my local peeps!???? Keep up on your great success and stay in touch!

  4. Hello! I had my sleeve by Dr. Courcoulas on 10/14 at Magee in Pittsburgh!

I loved my doctor - she is incredibly informed about recent research findings and data because she is actively researching and presenting on bariatric surgery/weight loss. Her whole team is also amazing. They are incredible responsive and understanding about all my questions - especially her PA Vicki.

At roughly 7 weeks out I have lost about 35 pounds from the start of the lifestyle program (about 25 from surgery). I am now 'regular foods' although I tend to eat soft foods roughly 80% of the time. I have also started exercising so I am hoping it boosts my energy and weight loss! I hope everyone in da burgh is doing well!

  5. Welcome Careysgirl! Sounds like you are really on the right track and are doing everything you can to reach your goals! Great you have some of your testing needs done and can use them!

I have 5 more apt left also but I will be going again this week for my 2nd one. Sounds like the two of us are on the same timing.

You sound very close to me and my readings. I am 5'1 and 200 pounds. I am very limited to what I can do physically right now since I have a foot fx plus a torn tendon. Hard to walk! My stress test will be done in a bed andctheycwi give me meds to race my heart to an exercise rate. Crazy what they can do today!

You are right! With all of us together supporting each other and family and friends we can definitely do this!!! I got you????

  6. Hi All,

I'm at the beginning of my journey as well. I went to my first consult on November 19th and have chose the vertical sleeve.

I have started getting the required test needed such as blood work and x-ray. Since I was already seeing a psychologist she is giving me the clearance for surgery. I have been seeing a cardiologist for some time so I will be requesting the clearance from her as well and getting my EKG.

I saw the nutritionist once already and my next appointment is this month. I have 5 months to go until the doctor can submit the paperwork to the insurance for approval.

I am very excited to have begun this journey, I have already started making lifestyle changes with my choice of foods I eat and the quantities and also walking more. Hopefully by the time I actually have the surgery I will be used to eating healthier. I am 5'2 the day of my 1st consult I was 242 lbs and today I weight 234 lbs. my ultimate goal is to weight 125lbs I'm confident that with my commitment and support from family, friends and online support groups I will reach my goals and live a healthy, happy and energetic lifestyle.

    Together we can do it!

  7. So cool you've gotten so much done at this point!!! Your soooo close! How exciting! I just got started last month ans will be having my second meeting this Thursday. Doing my bloodwork tomorrow. Planned for today but forgot and drank coffee when I woke up!!! I was so mad at myself! I met with the ekg doctor but still have everything else to do! Ive been doing tons of reading and I've been on this site reading a lot plus I have several friends and family members who have had some sort of weight loss surgery thru the years. Sure had come along way since my moms banding 20 years ago and she was sliced wide open from breast bone to pubic bone! Crazy!

  8. Hi Jodi_PA!!! I haven't heard of this doctor. I have no date set either. I sure hope your experience goes well too. Keep in touch with us and we will help each other thru this. Thanks for joining in!

Thank you! The last thing on my pre-op prerequisites is the endoscopy. I've had everything else done. Once I get that done, it'll go through insurance (fingers crossed) and then I'll get a date. We definitely need to help each other throught this.

  9. Second visit Thursday with the psych and nut folks. I'm nervous! I work 13hr shifts so I planned today to go get my blood panel done and completely forgot and drank a cup of coffee out of morning habit! Didn't even think of the lab! I was so mad when I realized I ruined it for the day! My time is so limited to run around too! So mad at myself. Going tomorrow 6am!!!

Hey did you hear about the insurance and if you will have to switch doctors? I sure hope not!

  10. You are going to do great! I hear they sedate you for it. I've never had one! I go back this Thursday the 3rd for my second monthly apt. Will meet with everyone again. Gotta get my bloodwork done asap so it's done and back for that apt!

I'm new to forum and am at the same place you are. I begin my 12 week nutrition classes on Dec 1.
