This is great...a local self-made support-type group! It's so exciting to read about everyone's successes and journey. I've started counting weeks now...10 more weeks on Friday. Crazy! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App This is so exciting that there are 3 of us out here now! I'm only 20 min from Deer Park Ave. I'm so happy for all of us!! It's so empowering to be able to take control of our lives and make positive changes! Ok, we'll be counting 10 weeks with you, Gina!!!

HA! How funny that is! Twins?? I can't even imagine! My youngest two were 22 months apart and that's as close to twins as I could ever handle lol We'll definitely have to meet up! As supportive as everyone has been, I have found that only someone who has had surgery truly understands everything. 2 pounds a week is great! I have hypothyroid so I completely understand about feeling like your weight loss is slower because of it but you are doing really great! Your body has a lot of adjusting to do with calorie intake, med adjustments, physical activity adjustments. It sounds like you are doing fantastic!! That's about what I was at 2 months post op. I wasn't sure if that was good or not because you saw some people were still losing 3 or 4 pounds a week at that point but I've since learned that everyone is different and I try not to get hung up on what everyone else is doing. I remember my surgeon telling me that if you don't change what you were doing physically, don't expect things to be any different then they were pre-surgery so that has been a bit motivation to work hard to stay active. I read that joining a gym is good because lifting weights (using machines with weights) is very helpful because while your building muscle you're body will continue to burn calories even at rest which is some thing cardio can't do for you. I have a gym in my office building so I have been going there 3 days a week during my lunch time. Last week I joined a yoga class that starts next week for 6 wks at work. I got sick pretty sick about 6 weeks ago and haven't been doing any exercise and I feel it. Not on the scale, but my body feels weaker and less energetic. I was also walked several times a week which I started again this afternoon. I have a desk job and just sit at my computer all day so I'd take a 15-20 min break around 3ish and take a walk and walk my dog after walk for another 15-20 min.

Congrats on your 40 pounds!!! Doesn't that feel awesome?? I had my surgery in Feb and am down almost 70. Have you had to get new clothes yet? I found shopping at thrift stores to be a God send so I wasn't spending so much money on clothes that I was in for just a short amount of time. The 3 of us will have to meetup at some point. I'm in East Meadow but I'm around that area all the time since I have family out that way.

Hi, I'm on Long Island too. How exciting that your surgery has been scheduled! Which one are you getting? I had the sleeve in Feb. of this year. I'd be more then happy to meet up with you or try to answer any questions you have. I'll be having the sleeve too! I'm scheduled for December 23, right before Christmas...should be interesting. I just had a weigh-in appointment with my surgeon and I'm down about 8# since June 8...not great, but hey, at least I'm going in the right direction! I'm in the Bay Shore/Babylon area...where are you? It would be nice to meet up sometime. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App I go near you all the time. I have family still there -I grew up in the BayShore/Brentwood area. I'm in East Meadow now. You may still be in the hospital on Christmas day so be prepared to celebrate it in the hospital Not like you'll feel like doing anything but sleeping anyhow. I was in the hospital for 3 days - 2 of those days in ICU (I have asthma and had Sleep Apnea - which is gone now - so breathing was a big issue). 8 pounds is definitely a good start! I always say to think of a pound of butter. Now think of 8 of those. That's nothing to sneeze at! You'll loose the weight pretty quick once you have your surgery. I am down almost 70 pounds already and most of that was in the first 4 months.

    My hair!

OK so I knew that my hair would fall out a bit but does anyone have any idea how long this lasts?? I'm 4 months post op, I've lost 60 pounds, but my hair is falling out I often feel I might have a bald spot!

    My hair!

You might want to check the other ingredients that are in your supplement. I always try to get organic, non-gmo Vitamins. I found these on Amazon and ordered them this morning. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T56FQAE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AQAIDN8YDF665

    My hair!

I have some spots that are rather thin but definitely not bald. In terms of low calorie diet, how low are you talking? I dont know about anyone else, but I'm averaging only about 650-700 calories per day. My hair is definitely a LOT thinner than it was. I did try the Keratin a couple of people have mentioned and it does help with it looking thicker but I feel it and can tell how thin it is. I'm not really sure it would make much difference whether your hair is long or short. My hair is past my shoulders and would still be just as thing if it was cut shorter. At this point, I'm going to keep using the Keratin and blowing my hair out so at least it looks fuller.

    Having trouble with Vitamins

I use Bariatric Advantage Multi Vitamin but the berry one. I didn't like the orange one. They are huge so I cut them into 4's. You have to take 2 of these chewable tablets/day. https://www1.bariatricadvantage.com/catalog/group/111208/ I buy my Bariatric Advantage Calcium from Amazon. If you like Caramel, you'll love these. They are so good! https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BWB3J2W/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3EPGNAQUGG6DD
  12. I'm 4 mths post surgery and I have lost 60 pounds. I did hear the same thing about the more you have to lose the faster you will lose it at the beginning. I am VERY happy with my weight loss. I started at a size 20-22 and I'm now a size 14.

    Erin Condren

I really loved my Erin Condren planner but it was too big and heavy to carry it around. I just found out what Bullet Journaling is. I am completely obsessed! You can use any notebook so I have one that fits right in my purse!
  14. I'm in! I'm a bit late Start: 171 Goal: 165 Thank you!

    February 2016 sleevers?

Good for you!!! That's awesome!! I was sleeved on Feb 11th and I'm down almost 60 lbs and I'm down to a size 14 (when I started in Feb I was a size 22). I've gotten off 4 medications and I can actually walk up and down stairs without my knees hurting or being out of breath. I get up early every morning to walk with my husband and our dog. What an amazing difference my life is now. I just keep remembering what my doctor told me: If you don't change your habits and get more active, you won't lose the weight like you plan to.

    Unsupportive People!

I'm sorry your husband was in the hospital. I hope all is well. I completely understand how you feel and it is both hurtful because it's not like we make the surgery decision on a whim, and frustrating because we know all that we have tried or we wouldn't be traveling down the surgery road in the first place. Sounds like your friend expects you to accept being overweight (or worse - wait until you're even heavier before taking action) because others are more overweight than you but I don't see that as being a good enough standard for living your life. There will always be someone who is in better or worse shape than you at any point in your life, who are better at a specific skill than you are - that doesn't mean we give up and just don't try to get better. I have 3 adult sons and my youngest was the only one who didn't support me and I thought he would've been the one to offer the biggest support since he's in the medical field. I tried making excuses (he's skinny as a rail and never had to worry about losing weight let alone how it's affecting his health). He felt I need to try harder on my "next diet" as if I hadn't been trying for years. Oh, now that I've lost 40 pounds in 2 months and am off a few of my meds he can see the good it's done, but prior to my surgery and right afterward when I really needed the support, I couldn't turn to him. It was definitely disappointing and frustrating. Look to those who DO support you. You shouldn't have to defend your decision to anyone. Perhaps one day you may be inspiration to others you know who are struggling with weight issues to be more proactive in getting their life back.
