    February 2016 sleevers?

I had my surgery on the 11th. My surgeon said that feeling is because the part of the stomach that signals your esophagus to relax was removed. The trick is to take very small sips. I'm very fortunate at not having too much trouble but when I forget and take a "normal" sip it definitely gets my attention!

    February 2016 sleevers?

You would celebrate your surgiversary on March 1st for the years there is no leap day. Congrats on getting a date!
  3. My doc has me concentrating on proteins and as for texture, if a baby cant eat it I cant eat it. Heres my meal plan from my doc: Stage 2: Up to week 3: Full liquids: Aim for 3-6 high protein, liquid meals. You will be consuming 4 oz meals every 3-4 hours. Sip slowly and STOP when you start feeling fill, even if you haven't finished your meal. Includes: - all clear liquids (sugar free, calorie free, caffeine free, non carbonated beverages. - skim milk or lifht soy milk - approved protein shakes (must have 27 gms protein) - I use bariatric advantage - non fat, plain greek yogurt (Fagr, Chobani), Dannon light and fit yogurt (all flavors) Hope that helps!
  4. My doc wants me to sleep with my head elevated. I'm not sure why but it makes falling to sleep rather difficult. I tried to sleep in my own bed this afternoon but I couldn't get comfy so I'm going to try the couch tonight. I've read this could be an issue for the first week or two.
  5. I'm very fortunate in not having experienced any nausea. I just got home from the hospital, made my way through the rambunctious parade of pets and had 4 oz of protein shake. I guess im good for the next few hours! Im on Roxy for the pain. Ive taken 2 weeks off to recuperate.
  6. So are you! We all have our trials and tribulations. I would assume to with a lung infection your coughing a lot and that cant be easy ouch! They just weighed me and Im 14lbs higher then when I came in. Im assuming from all the gas pumped in and what not. I read others had a hogher weight post op so I was prepared for that. I can't wait to go home today! This 6:00 wake up call is crazy lol. Feel better!!
  7. Hang in there! I just got sleeved Feb 11th and am still in the hospital. I had a lot of drama last week of having an infected tooth and having to get it pulled, put on antibiotics, trying to get all my work done so I can be out for 2 weeks. Then the day before surgery, surgeons office calls saying theres a $1000 copay and $750 deductible because the hospital is a tier 2 not a tier 1. Going back and forth finally got everything straight: its a tier 1. Whew I have asthma and used my inhaler before surgery like I always do before surgery. Turns out midway through the surgery I have an asthma attack. After recovery I end up in ICU. I stayed there for the day of surgery and the day after. I couldn't urinate so I ended up with a catheter. I finally relieved myself and I feel like a proud mommy "I peed!!" Just about an hour ago I was transferred from ICU to a regular room where I am now. I am scheduled to be discharged in the morning. I never thought Id be full from drinking next to nothing but I am. Only 1 oz per 15 min. I do have gas and burb every now and again. The doc found I had a hiatal hernia and the hole he had to close was pretty big. Who knew! Its nice not having heartburn!

  9. One of the things my surgeon told me that keeps sticking with me is if you dont change what youve always done you will end up back to the same place. So when you go to the doc and you are putting on weight, he asks "What exercise have you been doing?" And you tell him "Walking" hes going to tell you "That didnt work before the surgery so what makes you think thats going to work after the surgery?" For me, that was huge paradigm shift for me; a game changer. The surgery is a tool, not a magic procedure. Just like you have to work at losing weight/maintaining weight without surgery, you have to work at it afterwards only you have a little help with the surgery My surgeon also said, "If you dont stick to the program and eat and exercise properly, you end up just being an annuity for me because you're going to want another type of surgery." Bam! Youre just going to keep putting money in some doctors pockets. Whether its for additional surgery or additional medical issues caused by the weight. I want off that gravy train. Git er done!

Every surgeon is different. Mine doesn't require a 2 week diet! I hope everything works out for you! My surgery is a week before yours! I don't have to do it either and I'm scheduled for the 11th.

Me too!! I just got the call today. There was a cancellation next week so I'm in!

    Pre op appointment tomorrow

Great job getting to 218! You'll be able to get there. Be careful with not getting enough calories or your body will revert to starvation mode making it even more difficult to lose it. I saw the surgeon today so I have a ways to go get to where youre at. Keep up the good work!!

  15. You might want to look into the SIPS version of the DS. It's a modified DS: less risky, easier for the surgeon to perform with less malnutrition. It only uses one intestinal incision instead of two. http://www.medpagetoday.com/Endocrinology/Obesity/48868 http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/338199-sips-stomach-intestinal-pylorus-sparing/

Help! Possibly doing DS rather than Sleeve

Ask your doctor about the SIPS version of the DS. It's a modified DS: less risky, easier for the surgeon to perform with less malnutrition. http://www.medpagetoday.com/Endocrinology/Obesity/48868 http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/338199-sips-stomach-intestinal-pylorus-sparing/
