I had terrible pain across my hips and have sciatica before my surgery. Was the last straw to kick me in to surgery. Have not had the pain since the surgery, but still have sciatica. I have pt stretching to help, and have had to add a pillow behind my back when sitting. Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App

Those first days and weeks seem so long, but remember you have had major changes your your body and system. Be patient with yourself and your body. Don't weigh every day. Stick to your plan. Take it slower if you have to. I did. Allow your body to do what it needs to do. It is healing. Best wishes on your path to a new you!

ONLY 37.5 pounds? That's a lot. See your doctor. They may be able to give you some exercises to help. A round of physical therapy could help, too. It did for me. Your body is adjusting to shifting weight. Try some sort of back support when sitting. Congrats on your progress!

How old were you when you had your surgery?
beezy8 replied to KaiserKid's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am 70. Had my surgery 12/31/15, 6 months ago. Sw 223, cw 173. So glad I had the sleeve. Back pain is gone, meds cut way back. Insulin cut way back. Want to lose at least 15 more pounds. Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App -

I was sleeved 12/31/15 at age 70. I'm doing very well. Just had 6 month exam and all is great. Approved for anything appropriate to eat. Take your time. Listen to your body. There may be bumps along they way, but it is great and well worth the changes in lifestyle! -

You are 4 weeks post-op. That's when I started feeling frustrated, too. It does get better! I am at 14 weeks and have been cleared for anything I am comfortable eating. I am taking it slow and careful, because if I became impatient I usually set myself back about a week. The meal and fluids guidelines and schedules are really well timed to your healing. It is hard to get the full amount of Water, but I was told that other fluids count toward that intake. I found a straw helped me with the sips of water, when I wanted to gulp like I used to. That does get better, too. I can now take swallows. It was easier for me to think of water intake in cups rather than the whole 64 ounces. The most important thing is to try to reach the goal. I use things that flavor the water, too, although I really like our water here. You are getting better every day, and soon you will be where I am - feeling good and eating well, and eating better! Good luck on your journey to a new you! Beezy8

The Bariatric Pal store has some very tasty vitamins. The Melts work well for me. Iron+D tastes like a bite of real orange. Calcium chews ate very good, too. Their protein drinks (pinapple orange) are delish, as are their other foods. Give them a try.

Just need some motivation little down
beezy8 replied to jweinberg226's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
But i thought i was on a stall. When i see the scale and my baggy clothes, I believe it. Trust that your body is doing things even if it is not showing up as pounds right now. I have to remind myself to listen to my body, let the process and system progress. Show down, Chew and easy slowly, drink slowly and often. This is what I am telling myself all the time. I need the reminders constantly. -

My endocrinology near suggested today that I add Benefiber to foods and drinks to increase fiber. I'm going to try that. Will also try still softeners. -
What Are Your Best WLS Tools?
beezy8 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been using Diabetes W to track my blood sugars, carbs and insulins for my type II diabetes, which is a nice comprehensive tracking program for techies like me. I have also been using My Fitness Pal for limited tracking of data for exercise, until recently. I have just discovered what a complete and powerful program My Fitness Pal is for tracking food and Water intake for Bariatric nutrition tracking! I really did not know how much it could do until a few weeks ago! What a great program/app it is! I am now tracking ,my weight, water intake, exercise, meals, using the bar code scanner which plugs in all the nutrient information for the foods I eat. It really helps me see how I'm doing with out having to figure it on my own. I recommend it highly as a free smart phone app, for keeping track of your info. -
December 2015 sleevers progress check
beezy8 replied to Joymarie333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad I can move into regular foods, but I need to remember to do it slowly and by what my stomach tells me. This is really much sooner than I expected. I thought it would be months, not weeks. The hardest part is still waiting 30 minutes to drink! At least I can do a real swallow of beverage. I'm up to 1/2 cup portions, which helps get more Protein in meals. Still having a hard time with the protein Snacks, but really like the Bariatric Pal hot cocoa Protein Drink, and their pineapple-orange protein drink. I'm looking forward to eating out with friends, now. I, too, have slowed some in weight loss, but I was also concerned about losing too fast and losing too much if it didn't slow down. The doctor said things would naturally slow down and taper off. I'm looking forward to a trip to Goodwill for some transitional clothes. It really is getting better every day, a little at a time! -

Good luck Brenda28. You will do well. Many of us have had a variety of health challenges, and Bari surgery has been the best choice for us. I'm 70 and retired for a while, and my hope is to be more active again. -
December 2015 sleevers progress check
beezy8 replied to Joymarie333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One of the best parts of surgery for me has been no back pain since my surgery. I could hardly walk from piriformis pain, and though the weather is keeping me in, I haven't had the pain I had before! That was one of the main reasons for the surgery, so I could participate again. So I'm thrilled with my progress one month post-op! -

I'm down 2 notches on my watchband, and my jeans are really baggy. Almost time for a trip to Goodwill for some transitional clothes. -

Early on I ate things I liked before surgery that fit in the guidelines, like yogurt, cream of chicken soup, (chicken pureed), idahoan instant mashed potatoes (several flavors) mixed thin, various flavors of soup, and baby food. There really is a lot of variety. Foods have tasted good, so that has not been an issue. Be patient, it all does come in good time. -

Jennah pennycuff I found broths very comforting in the early days for warm and not sweet foods. Bariatric Pal has very tasty protein foods, and I'm also pleased with their vitamins. Just recommended them to my doctor's office. -

My appointment went very well!! Promoted to cheese (yay! For this Wisconsin girl). And can move to pastas and more. I didn't think those would be allowed for a long time. Must keep telling myself to listen to what my body is telling me and not to push things. One quarter cup at a time! -

Itching seems to be pretty normal. When i was still on oxy meds I learned it is a side effect of them. I thought I'd go mad from the itching, but I stopped the meds and it settled down a lot. Remember there is healing going on inside and out. -

My sleeve was December 31, and want to eat what I see everywhere on TV. I guess that's normal. My head wants it and my mouth wants it, but my stomach doesn't want it! I'm eating soft, and foods taste good, but I'm full after a quarter cup. Don't push too quickly to the next stage like I did . Had some vomiting and set back about a week. I have to remember slow and easy. I want that pizza on TV, but would be happy with a bite. I , too would like some protein ideas. I'm sick of chocolate shakes.
