  1. Thanks for the link. I've just started listening. I agree Reeger is informative and soothing to listen too.
  2. Cervidae I noticed you new profile pic. You are looking fantastic!
  3. Good luck gina171. I remember reading your post when you were trying to decide which procedure to go for. Wishing you well when you get to the 'other side'.

    4 weeks post op!

You may not ever experience dumping as I haven't so far at 6 months, but I have frothed and thrown up ....charming I know! I too at times have mourned food, although as you mentioned about increased confidence, the confidence I feel now overwhelming beats missing out on certain foods. Your progress is fantastic at 4 weeks and I love your attitude!

    Things you wish you'd known.

The thing that I wished I would of known is I really did need WLS. I wish I had known this earlier in life after decades of feeling miserable and frustrated about my body. After 6 months I know now there is no way in the world I could of sustained the very low calories that I needed to loose the weight. After decades of trying and failing on diets and pills I know now the surgery was the only answer to get this ridiculously stubborn fat off me.

    Water Weight

I'm a big believer in weighing every day. Because I know not getting on the scale for me gets me into big trouble. I have a problem with Fluid retention and my weight can fluctuate up to 4 pounds at any given time. I've learnt to have a lot of patience. Eventually I go down to a newest low, so I know the weight is still coming off.

    Hair Loss

Zinc and iron did it for me. My hair started coming out after 3 months. I went on zinc and iron and my hair loss stopped within the month.

    Before & after

    Wow....looking amazing! Congrats!
  10. Yep it's hard the first month but it gets better. At about 3 months I started feeling back to normal. At 6 months I'm now in my "ecstatic" state! I can't believe the change to my body. I still sometimes have challenges with food, but for me it's so worth it. Apart from the improve on health, I can't believe how good I look in jeans right now (vain I know, but I use to hate my thighs). I hope you reach your ecstatic state soon!

    Pill crushing ?

I was fine with most pills straight after the op except calcium tablets which are generally huge. At about 12 weeks I could finally swallow them as well.

    Nervous

I definitely became nervous as my surgery grew closer, and on the morning of the procedure I had a few tears. Although I have no regrets so far at 6 months post op.

    New Zealand :)

Hello from an Aussie ....well at least we are neighbours . This forum has been a fantastic support for me and hopefully for you too. Pre-op was difficult for me too! My cravings were crazy. Trust me it's so much easier not to eat post op, it will be the opposite, you will likely be struggling to eat and drink. I'm 5 months post op now, and very happy with the results. Good luck to you.

    Surgery scares!

After surgery, I had a burst blood vessel, I was rushed back into surgery to fix it and lost a couple of units of blood. It meant just a couple of extra days in hospital, and maybe an extra week in my recovery. I would do it all again to escape a life time of obesity. Anything can happen but if you have a good surgeon and a good hospital they will look after you. Or you you maybe like the majority of people and have no issues at all. Good luck !

    Sleeve to Bypass

I had RNY approx 5 months ago. I've never felt better, my nails have never been stronger and my energy is fantastic (I also take my Vitamins every day). Yes it can be challenging in the beginning as you adjust to your new body, but it does get better. Discuss your concerns with your Dr and hopefully he can put your mind at ease. You need to make up your own mind as it is your body and your journey; but so far I have no regrets.

    Struggling

I remember going through this phase. I was thinking what's the point, I've lost my so called 'friend', I could always count on food to make me feel better. But then the weight really started coming off, and boy do I feel fantastic. Hang in there, it's worth it. It's true the relationship with food changes, and it can be a bumpy road, but other joys will come in and replace the addiction of eating.
  20. Yep agree with the others....you both look fantastic....and much younger. Well done to you both!

    My Hair is falling :(

My hair started falling out by the handful at 3 months. I started taking Iron ( my levels were down), and bio-zinc. In the past few weeks my hair loss has lessened by a lot which is a relief.
  22. I had a cathartic day today saying goodbye to the old and hello to the new me. Today I went through every drawer and cupboard and threw out/donated all my 'before' clothes (apart from 1 top and trousers to keep as a reminder). It's such a great feeling getting rid of those clothes I use to hide behind. Now it's time for more shopping!

    Feel like this is failing?

Fluid......good chance it just fluid. Our bodies hold onto fluid whilst burning fat. I too when up a few pounds a month in, and I felt the same frustration as you do now; but it came off. Now I just accept it as part of my journey, because for me It's definitely 2 steps down , 1 step back.....but overall the weight keeps coming off.
