My biggest set back was the shake being gross (which I found one I like) and the protien bars having been different (which I exchanged). Now that I had that sorted it was really easy to stick with it today. I'm not really struggling with hunger right now. Temptation from knowing I can't have X, but not true hunger. Which is easier to fend off for me.
I'm gonna slowly trim my pre op and see how I do without the meal. Right now I'm doing the meal for dinner so if I end up feeling the need for food, then I can just have my "lean meal" for dinner as usual (I've meal planned so it just has to be thawed).

I'm getting it fixed with mine as well. The hernia fix is actually covering most of my surgery. I'm just paying put of pocket for the sleeve itself
im getting a hiatal hernia fixed with my sleeve too! What do you mean by rough? Keeping liquids down or incision site pain or perhaps something else? I'm glad you are feeling better! My surgery is on Feb 17tbI was sleeved and had a hiatal hernia fixed on the third. The first few days recovering were kinda rough, but I feel pretty good now. Down 17lbs since surgery. Seems kind of unreal.

That's the great thing is I'm tempted of course but I'm not really hungry. We had a snow day here today so I had to stay home from work. I'm occupying my time by cleaning as much as possible. It'll be helpful in the long run I think. If I deep clean now I won't have to worry as much once I have my surgery. trying to stay positive. It's much easier with a shake and protien bars I like.
I'm allowed to have one meal with lean meats and non starchy veggies. I think next week I may cut out that lean meal and just do shakes and bars. Any of yall opted to do liquids and bars only?

So I started my pre op diet a day early yesterday. I wanted to allow for any mishaps or problems. Boy am I glad I did..... the protien powder I picked was the worst, the protien bars I liked had a mix up at the factory and weren't the same ones, i was falling asleep at my desk by 2pm, and I also got hit with a huge emotional blow yesterday. I did well all day, but ended up caving to have dinner. All in all I failed yesterday, I guess it's a good thing it was a trial run.
So I went to the store to exchange the bars, found a different powder, I'm taking a B Vitamin to help with energy, and I found a way to handle the emotional blow.... Today is the official start day. Hope to do better today. I just try to keep reminding myself that this is for a good reason.
Was it hard to stick to the pre op? What helped you?

Mine is the 23rd! Let's he surgery buddies!

I was at the hospital mid morning, surgery at l pm, and home by 6 pm. Had one pain pill at home. The more you are hospitalized the more apt to catch something. Call his office if you have to! I was in the grocery store two days after the sleeve. Browsing and feeling great.
Where did you have yours done at? I'm having mine done in Dallas in about 2 weeks. I will also be in and out in one day. This doesn't seem to be the norm.

I'm the 23rd!
I start my liquid diet on monday and I'm not sure that I'm ready. But after having 2 midgets naturally, I know I can do this.

I am current just over 2 weeks until my sleeve as well.
The important people know. My office thinks I'm having a hernia repair, which isn't a lie. I've been losing weight steadily for the past month or so and because of my starting bmi I'm expected to be a slow loser. But if someone asks I plan to tell them that I'm eating smaller healthier portions and exercising. Which also isn't a lie.
Forewarning..... other overweight people are not always supportive so don't bank on that and tell them. They alot of times get mean. Of the few friends I've told the skinny ones are supportive. One overweight person was supportive (she is currently in the same process), but the other overweight person was a complete turd about it.

Did you lose on your pre op? How much?So jealous of yalls pre op diets! Mine was full liquids
Still on them too until Tuesday! Can't wait to start soft foods then. I was sleeved 1/27/16
Atleast you're in full liquids for a shorter duration. I 3 weeks full liquids, and 3 weeks of pureed. My procedure is the 23rd :/

I just got all my pre op paper work today. I will be setting up surgery a surgery date on monday. Hopefully by the end of feb I'll be wheeling out of surgery I have already started transitioning to the diet needed after and have started meal planning for the first few weeks when I'll need to cook but be too tired. I'm also planning on making some Soups this weekend.
I'm going to freeze the soups in a muffin tin for portion

So question for yall who went this route, how big was your hernia? Mine was labeled "small" and I'm worried I'll get denied by insurance.

I went the hiatal hernia route with Dr. Nick in November 2015. I have been really pleased with my experience. Dr. Nick (and the other surgeons in the practice) are very positive and supportive. At the same time, Dr. Nick is pretty up-front that success or failure is really a result of the willingness of the patient to stick with the plan. When I met with him, he made it pretty clear that the surgery was a tool that would help me lose weight, but was only a tool. Being mentally prepared to succeed is just as, if not more, important.
The way that I see it, the surgery gave me a reset button to stop the back and forth between weightloss and regain. There is no one preventing me from going back to eating junk food, not exercising, etc. That is all up to me. The surgery has just made it easier to focus on what I should be doing. I'm immensely grateful to Dr. Nick. Before I started my four-week pre-op diet, I could not walk a block without getting out of breath, sweating, and having back pain. Now, I walk several miles at a time with no problem!
I know that feeling. It's not as bad as it once was, but I have a degenerated disc in my lower lumbar, at my weight now my back hurts almost constantly.
They aren't having me go on a pre op diet, but I'm doing a self imposed diet. With having lost as much as I have in the past and keeping it off, I know it's up to me and my own willpower and how well i stick to and use the info I'm given...... My mistake was quitting smoking. I ballooned after that

I go to do my EGD on monday, hopefully by Friday or the following Monday I will have the results and be able to set my appointment!
How did your EGD go? Any word on your results and/or surgery date? I am so excited for you..and very curious how far out they are scheduling surgeries!
Went good. I had the test done on monday. I got results immediately. I have a small hernia. I am trying to get the information faxed over to Dr.Nicholson..... no dice so far. Fax machines suck. So I'm going in the morning to get the paperwork filled put and faxed over
SELF PAYERS...please give me your insight

I have recently found out that since Obama care passed alot of insurances cover visits with dieticians 100%. Mine does! So that's a plus side to going to Mexico is that you can still find a NUT here that can help you
