I have a BMI of 34 when I started and my insurance covered it by going the hiatal hernia route. Yes I feel the same way ! I just started my journey in last month. I'm not 5 days post op and 7lbs down since surgery, and 30lbs down since my starting weight in January! I can't wait to look in the mirror and like what I see im with you hum <3
I actually have some money stashed away for my cute new wardrobe I'm gonna have

So the pain is ok....worse in the am. But I continue to feel pressure in the epigastric region after I swallow something it alleviates after a few seconds. Small sips of Water is still a little difficult. But sugar free slurpies......are great. I eat it with a spoon. And it's easy to get down. My youngest son brought me one yesterday since I was having such a difficult time.
One thing that helped me with swallowing Water is just breathing out fully just before swallowing it. Might help!
I started doing this a few days ago. I thought it was just me!

How is every one on hunger? I am HUNgry. I was hoping I would wake up from surgery and be hunger free. Haven't happened yet.
I was fine with hunger until this morning. The family wanted to go out for an early dinner. And I tried to have some Soup but it turns out it's to much for my tiny tummy. I got some cramping so that's off the menu. I've heard that it gets better after we are off liquids too.
Hopefully this next week passes quickly for us. I'd kill for some mashed potatoes. But I don't think my tummy can handle it.

But since we are all still on a clear liquid diet, we can use unflavored protien powders added to drinks or broths to gets us where we need to be

My NUT said for women she likes it to be 60-80grams per day. For men 80-100grams.

My bmi is low. It was 34 when I started and I have no comorbidities. I would've had to gain 40lbs to have my insurance cover the entire procedure.
-
So I had a bowel movement today. But I had to drink 2 oz of prune juice
I got a little over 40oz of fluids in today. But alot of it came from sugar free popsicles and gatorade.
I'm adding unflavored protien powder to my broths. The unflavored ones are still clear.
I had my hernia fix because that's the only way I could get this surgery done in the states. My surgeon billed my insurance for the hernia repair and then I paid out of pocket for the actual sleeve itself.

Wow! You're doing great! I hope in the ne t few days, I can get out to the store. I've been trying to keep my fluids up....but i'm probably getting only half lf them. It feels like gurgling, and pressire when I drink...so I try and slow down even more. I mainly have SF Jello, popsicles, Water, and I tried Campblells broth today (I didn't like it).Apparently my hernia was very large. So I'm sure that's what caused alot of my nausea. Liquids are going down much easier today and burping is easier and not very painful. I have had to take anti nausea meds since 3am. I got out and walked around the grocery store today. I also have managed to get in over 60g if protien. But only about 20oz of Water. How are yall doing on your liquid I takes?
I bought some Campbell's chicken noodle Soup and have strained out the noodles and chicken. And am just having the "broth" that's left over. It's alot more tasty. I ate 3oz of it yesterday with 1 scoop of unflavored protien powder mixed in. It took me about 30 minutes to finish it though.

Th instructions say clear liquids only until mynext Drs. Appointment in 12 weeksHave you tried drinking a protien shake? It helps me not be hungry. Thats what I sip on all day.
Oh my doc said clear liquids and protien shakes. The protien shakes are the only exception. But I'm mixing unflavored protien into my broth so that I'm getting something in. It's helped a lot

It's 100% worth it. I'm only 3 days post op and ive already lost 4lbs since my surgery date. And I didn't have to starve or torture myself to lose that 4 lbs.

My nut said that the body can only process about 20-30g of protien at one time. Any more than that is just excess.

Don't be scared! I weighed this morning. Surgery was on tuesday. I'm already down a full pound. And I have lots of swelling and Water rentention. The first week may he rough, but I'm already feeling more normal.

Don't regret it. It get easier. the first week is really rough, we knew that. Don't give up.

Oh and I haven't tried eating yet. I'm not really hungry. Just been having some Water and some protien shake. I tried broth but that hurt so I'm going to wait a few days before I try again. I'm still having to take the zofran like clock work and the codeine liquid too.
How is yalls swelling? Is your tummies still enlarged? I'm still bloated. I can't tell if it's swelling or the trapped gas.
-
I'm feeling so much better today. I think the swelling for the hernia has gone down. I'm not having painful burps when I drink anymore and I can feel and hear the air come up from My stomach. I didn't drink nearly enough yesterday. But I'm feeling good. I only slept in 2 hour increments the first night. But last night I was sleeping about 3-4 hours at a time.

I didn't get a drain either. Today isn't too bad. Some gas pains. I had a hernia fix as well, but we knew going in. The doc said my hernia was much larger than shown on the EDG. He also said that I had one of the largest stomachs hes seen on a low bmi patient. It explains alot. Between having a huge stomach and the acid reflux hunger pains. Thats why I was always hungry.
