  1. I was sleeved 2/23 and am down 10lbs as of yesterday. Anyone else get their period soon after? I got mine 2 days after surgery and I think im bloated. Eek.

I got mine 2 days before surgery!!! Talk about ugh! Good thing was when it was finally over (it did last over a week not typical for me) I woke up one day and was down 5 extra lbs!!

That gives me hope! I gained half a pound this morning and was so let down. Mine was 2 days after and I'm still on it 9 days later. So frustrating. Maybe I'll drop a bit once mine is over too!

  2. Hi! I've just started thinking about getting a gastric sleeve. BMI is 31, 5'9 and 210. I'm in Arizona, anyone in the area, recommend a good dr? I have read on this post hat someone was able to get the insurance to pay for it while doing a hiatal hernia repair surgery. Anyone else able to have insurance cover it this way? Thanks

I just had my surgery done this way 10 days ago. I had to travel to dallas texas. I went through the Nicholson clinic. My bmi was 33.4 when I started. Since starting my preop diet I have now lost over 30lbs! They billed my insurance for the hernia repair and I paid out of pocket for the sleeve itself. How much you pay is largely based on your insurance. All total for the sleeve and hernia repair I came out of pocket about $5k. :)

  3. I only did this with Water when I started exercising after surgery. I'd go to guzzle a bottle of water & be like "uh oh! That doesn't work anymore!" Other than that, I was VERY aware of what I was eating & made sure to stick to my post-op diet.

I'm sticking to my post op diet. I just mean that the pain of surgery is gone and sometimes I forget I've had it done. I've had my old stomach for many years. My new one has only been here for less than 2 weeks and I forget. I've recovered extremely fast. I'm back to everything I was going before with no issues. So I forget.

  4. I didn't take a bite of ANYTHING for a lot further out than 7 days.

Your new stomach is healing right now......please be very careful.

What type of things are you eating now?

Blended Soups. @@Dub it's not intentional. I just keep forgetting that I have my new tiny tummy and I'm supposed to just be on liquids. I have managed to catch myself everytime, but I forget that I can't eat something.

Last night I cooked dinner for the family and as I was making their plates a small bit fell onto my finger and I had it at my mouth before I realized what I was doing! :o I don't want to break my post op diet. I definitely don't want to have my tummy rip or the pain associated with eating something I shouldnt. But I'm not sure how to make myself remember? I don't have any pain anymore so I don't have that as a reminder.

  5. I am lower bmi. I started around 34 BMI. As of this morning I am down to 30.4. I am now 10lbs down. 194lbs. So my recovery has been quick. Over the last week I've made 4 trips to the store, and had an outing with the family. I even walked around the neighborhood while my kids rode bikes yesterday.

I'm still not getting enough fluids in. I'm working on that. But I'm pretty much back to normal.

I have 0 pain aside from some random shoulder pain, it typically goes away fairly quickly. I'm not allowed Jello yet. But yesterday was my last day on the clear liquid diet. I am now allowed to have Clear liquids and Soups that have been pureed and thinned with broth as well as protien drinks.

I have 2 more weeks until I get to full puree/soft foods. Today my goal is to get in 40oz of diet Powerade along with my soups and popsicles.

  6. So is it normal to sometimes forget that you've been sleeved?

I keep forgetting. I go to take a bite of something then right as I pick it up I have to remind myself that my tiny tummy can't handle that right now. It's very frustrating. I'm 7 days out and the tenderness is gone unless something pushes directly onto the incision, I forget i I have them and that I've had the surgery..... is this normal?

  7. As of this morning I'm down 8lbs from surgery. I weighed in at 196 this morning. I'm in nashville tennessee. I don't go back to work until monday. I'm enjoying the time off. :) im being cross trained for a different department when I go back. And honestly I don't want to work in that department so I'm dreading going back. :/

  8. I got out and walked. Another thing that helps is when you start to feel the pain come on, take the deepest breath you can and hold it. Eventually the pain start to recede.

I'm 2 weeks out...? Still gas pain. Yes .I am on a PPI in am and take Pepcid complete in pm for that reason. I evidently had a pretty significant hernia and am wondering if that is my source of discomfort.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

Mine was quite large too so I've been wondering the same

  9. Hello

We have united health care but weightless surgery is NOT covered. I have a hiatal hernia that will be fixed during my sleeve surgery. I was hoping that a bulk of the cost of surgery would be covered by my insurance now due to the hernia, ie-hostpial stay and anesthesiologist (2 huge expenses). I went today for another dr appt and they informed me that i have to pay $26,000 which is the cost of the sleeve and that includes the hospital stay and anesthesiologist. AND it has to be paid in full prior to surgery (set for april). I guess i just don't understand why the things my insurance WILL cover can't be deducted from the $26K, the office couldn't give me a answer which was really frustrating. My insurance company HAS paid for all my tests (minus my deductible). I hope this makes sense. SO, one of my questions is, how much was everyones surgery for self pay? This just seems like an awful lot.

I went the "hiatal hernia route" with doctor Roshek from the Nicholson clinic out of Dallas texas. I traveled from nashville.

My insurance covers both the hernia and bariatric surgery. BUT I'm lower bmi so I couldn't qualify under conventional means.

The Nicholson clinic billed my insurance for the cost of the hernia repair and I paid out of pocket for the sleeve itself. It ended up costing about $5k not including flight and hotel. You should look into it.

I started the process at the beginning of January and was sleeved this past tuesday, so about 2 months or so from start to finish. If you'd like you can message me :)
