  1. I gained 5 after surgery, lost that then a few more pounds. I hit a stall at week 2 & 3 post op. The scale would go back & forth 2 to 3 pounds. I got really discouraged but decided to keep track of inches lost. Even though the scale wasn't moving, the inches were still disappearing. When I had my month follow up & weighed in this past Wednesday the scale dropped lower than I thought it would. I lost 10 on the pre op diet & 22 post op. My surgeon told me the typical weight loss expectation in a month is 10 pounds.

I have always been the type of person who constantly checked the scales, but now I check it once every 2 weeks & I check the measurements once a week & sometimes only when I weigh in. Keep a journal & track your progress it is encouraging to see that progress laid out in front of you.

You will do great!! Hang in there!! You've got this!!

  3. Hello April!

Good luck next week and you will have to keep us posted as to how you are doing. I'm excited as I'm half way thru my 6 month ordeal required by insurance so it looks like February will be my surgery. I just had my scope, EKG and chest x-ray done so that is out of the way. Dr. Oldham is really great!

    Thank you!

Aw, I am so excited for you! Once your insurance is approved you'll be schedule for surgery in a matter of weeks. :) I had to go through 7 months of seeing a nutritionists for my insurance. It will be here before you know it. Keep us posted on how you're doing. I think Dr. Oldam is pretty amazing! He seems to sincerely care about his patients.

  4. Hi everyone,

I am a week away from the gastric sleeve surgery with Dr. Oldham @ Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, KY.

Just curious to see who all else has went with Dr. Oldham & how they are doing on this journey.

Dr. Oldham has been amazing, I couldn't imagine anyone better!

I am excited to take the next step with surgery. Would love to hear about everyone's journey.

    ???? April

  5. So, I spend the majority of my day yesterday in the ER with Kidney Stones. From what the ER doc said they can be pretty common with WLS. Has anyone else on here had them?

I honestly thought I was going to die or that my appendix was bursting. I was in the ER screaming, moaning and crying my eyes out. Worst pain I have ever felt in my whole life and I had a natural childbirth with my daughter. That was a breeze compared to this stupid kidney stone!!

So sorry you are going through that! I am 2 weeks pre-op & my surgeon has everyone start a medincine he prescribes to prevent gallstones. We take it 2 weeks before & 6 months after surgery. Maybe be something to check into with your surgeon/dr.

I hope you feel better soon!!!

  6. Congratulations to you both with regards to your surgery!

I was exhausted for weeks after the surgery but was lucky that my youngest son walked the dog every day until I was four weeks out.

How to get through the liver cleanse when you are tempted to cheat!!

    Clean your teeth

Drink more water/tea/ etc. (whatever is allowed)

Look at a photo you hate of yourself at your biggest and visualise being healthy and slimmer and remember why you are doing this.

Get a buddy and ask for/give support

    Remember this too will pass!

sleep more/Keep busy/Clean the house from top to bottom/Do all the laundry/prepare for surgery

Research post op eating plans, educate yourself why each stage is important including the cleanse

Treat yourself to a haircut/nails done

Cross each day off the calendar, countdown to surgery day

Get some fresh air, walk, visit family and friends.

Ask for support and help, we have all been there. You CAN do it :D

Let us all know how you are getting on :)

    Thank you so much!! ????

  7. Congratulations and best of luck with your surgery.

I was sleeved April 20 with Dr. Weiss at Georgetown and couldn't be happier with my surgery, my recovery, and my progress so far.

I recommend you do your best to follow all of your instructions both in and out of the hospital. Be willing to try anything even if you think you can't. Getting up and walking as soon as you can is critical.

Make sure you get in all of your Protein and fluids as soon as possible, follow your program, and walk. You will feel much better faster.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

    Thank you!

I am so glad you are happy with everything. That is encouraging.

I fully intend on doing everything they say. My surgeon said not to expect much sleep the night of surgery, because a nurse will come & get me walking every hour or two. He also recommended once home to walk everytime a commercial comes on for the full length of that, because it will add up quickly. I am more excited than anything, just want to do everything right.

    Wishing you continued success!!

Keep me posted on how it's going.

  8. Hey April. I'm Lisa. Also having surgery Nov 9th - in NYC. Started my 2-week liquid diet today. For Breakfast, I had 1c almond milk, 15 ice cubes, 2TBSP PB2 powder, 1/2 banana and 1 packet of unjury chocolate Protein powder -- blended into a smoothie. I've actually been having these daily for about 5 weeks now. My pre-surgery diet is full liquids - I know some others get to have a light meal on theirs. I made a worksheet last night with my day's dietary plan (2 Unjury shakes, 1 Premier Protein shake, a yogurt and sugar free Jello for snacks). A written plan works best for me so it's all ironed out before my day starts. Just need to remind myself to drink Water. Never been a big Water drinker, but I'll learn.

    Good luck!!

    Thank you!

My surgeon is having me drink 5 high protien Meal Replacements a day & if needed 1/2 cup of low carb veggies like green Beans. I started today with mine also.

I wish you all of the best!!

Let me know how it goes!

  9. Hi Everyone!

I am April. I'm 28 years old & 2 weeks out from surgery for the gastric sleeve. My surgery date is November 9th, with Dr. Oldham in Louisville, KY. His office has been amazing through this journey so far. Today is day #1 of the pre-op liquid diet. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions going into surgery or post-op? Also recommendations for protien supplement? I have been considering the whey liquid Protien Shots...

    Thank you in advance! ????
