  1. Enjoylife congrats on your huge success! What an inspiration you are! I agree that Dr. Singh is worth the drive, thankfully mine is only 45 minutes one way. I have never met a doctor who gave you their cell number and actually answered it! He's the best and I'm glad he's worked with me to get to the bottom of it. I know I'll be back on my way in no time!! Thanks for your response and good luck with the rest of your journey!!

  2. We did every test from May to December - barium swallow, upper GI, endoscopy....nothing picked up on it. He couldn't figure out what was wrong. He thought it was a slight hernia so he scheduled a surgery to correct it. He found the slippage when he opened me up and said that he couldn't diagnose it when the band was deflated. Scary. I too was on steroids for esophagitis and reflux medicine, but the pb'ing and throwing up continued. It was the craziest thing. I hope you figure out what is wrong soon and you get back to feeling better!

  3. I have been completely unfilled for 3 months and still having problems with PB'ing especially with "good" Proteins...any thoughts would be appreciated...stress?

This happened to me and I would not wait at all. My band had slipped and scar tissue formed another band around my stomach. It could be something as simple as a hernia, but continuing to do this is not healthy for your body. Definitely tell your doctor and have him run some tests. You'll be happy you did, if for just peace of mind.

  4. Irene-

I have that same issue - too tight/not tight enough! It's a never ending battle. I am hoping that with this revision things will be smooth sailing and I can lose that last 50. I hate feeling like a failure. I know I"m not, but it's hard not to compare yourself to those who have lost 90+ in 1 year! I'm getting ready to begin my 3rd year!!

I'm so happy that you are doing well and it makes it that much sweeter when it's almost effortless!! Best of luck and drop me a line if you'd like to stay in touch!

  5. I have a friend who lost 90+ pounds with only one fill. I think it can be done. I can't tolerate large amounts in my band at all - I think it's all based on your invididual body. I am short (so was she) and I think we are just more compressed internally. LOL My surgeon jokes with me about that all of the time. I wouldn't rule anything out.

  6. Im thinking that most of my uncomfortableness is coming from having to sleep on my back, which I hate. I can fall asleep but staying asleep ummm not so much. Im a wreck right now. Im even going so far as to question my decision to have the lap-band®. Minor set back Im sure but what do yall recommend?:cursing:

Hang in there! I'm a stomach sleeper and when I was first banded I thought I was going to lose it! I slept on the couch for 2 weeks and only got 4 hours a sleep at a time. It was awful on top of the food withdrawal my mind was experiencing. It's a whole host of emotions you go through when you have this surgery, at least for me. I can tell you by the second week I was feeling better and by the 3rd I was sleeping better. Once the swelling goes down and the pain subsides you'll start to sleep normally.

I think what you are experiencing is normal. If you can talk to your Mom or a friend (or counselor) to get you through the tough times, you'll be much better - or find a lapband buddy!! :crying:

You can do this! Look how far you've come!

  7. I have had a port flip and a prolapse(Not a slip as first thought). According to my PA he has yet to see a slip with realize(the band I have) so I think slips are a little less common than what we think. The prolapse and from what I hear slip is something that could not wait because of discomfort. Hope its nothing serious.

Thank you! That makes me feel better! My slip as described by the doctor sounded bad - so I don't want to go through that again. I was upset about everything at first, but then I decided to be optimistic and glad I have a second chance to get this right!!

  8. I have been doing good although my loss has slowed down. but until I get back to my sweet spot that is expected. It is like starting all over again. Not a big deal just a small bump in the road. It will be ok. I really like how all the fuss is made about don't eat or drink before surgery. What crap that is. The day my Slip was discovered at 10am or so I was in surgery at 12pm that day I had Breakfast and drank and did the whole shabang. also drank the barrium junk at 10am. Funny they did the surgery no problems. Rock on or it was a bad deal and had to be done NOW. Good thing is I am here to tell about it and I really like my Doc. saw the problem and fixed that day. no putting it off. That is full service. Scotty d

I'm glad it is all working out for you! I've been dealing with this for almost a year because they couldn't find out what was wrong. I'm hoping this will put me back on track. I'm worried I'll slip again. I think the no eating thing is just a precaution - I've gone under and ate right up to the time with no problems. Best of luck to you and thanks for sharing!

  9. I had my band slip what you have discribed is nothing like what I went through. Sorry can't help in this. Hope all is well. One thing I will say I never felt the band slip. Scotty D

ScottyD my band slipped as well. My surgeon thout it was a hiatal hernia, but when he went in to repair that, nope my band slipped....can I ask how you've been doing since? Mine was repaired this weekend and I"m scared it's going to happen again. Any input you can give would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Carol

  10. Puddin-

I'd rather be safe then sorry...it wouldn't hurt at all to get an endoscopy done. It's an outpatient procedure and only took 2 hours from start to finish and that was waiting on the doctor because he was late. I only had to wait a few days for the biopsy but he was able to let me know my band was ok and if I had reflux. I think from all of my pbing, it aggravated my hernia again. It took me almost a year to get to this point and I think that's why my reflux was so bad and my weight loss stalled. I'd go for it if you are able.

  11. Puddin - I've been having that problem off and on for over a year. A recent endoscopy determined I had Eosinophilic Esophagitis. My surgeon treated it with Prevacid and a steroid but I still threw up and had reflux. He determined that my hiatal hernia needed repaired (again). My surgery is scheduled in 2 weeks and finally it is calming down a bit. I can eat and not suffer from reflux, but I'm completely unfilled. He seems to think that I can go back to being filled after the surgery. I"m hoping that is true because I have been at a stand still for almost a year. It's frustrating. I hope your doctor figures it out soon - just don't give up! :-)

  12. I had my 3rd fill almost 3 weeks ago. At the beginning I would throw up every meal and for a day here and there I seemed to be better, eat smaller amounts more frequently and keeping everything down but since Saturday I have been throwing up a few times at every meal. Do you think I should just try eating soft things for a while to see if that helps? Not really sure if I am eating too fast, not chewing enough or if I am just too tight? Any suggestions? Thanks!

This has happened to me twice now! The first time I allowed it to go on for months and my weight loss installed. I was so swollen from not allowing my stomach to heal, that I had to get a lot unfilled. I couldn't stand the reflux that came with that. I'd be fine for a day or two, but then right back to throwing up. After I was unfilled the problem went away. I just recently got another fill and it was too much and the problem began again...fine for a few days, then throwing up constantly at every meal and even liquids were hard to get down. He took .5 cc out of my band today and instantly I felt better. I suggest not letting it go on for too long because it can cause a whole host of issues, including band slippage.

    Good Luck!!

  13. I wanted to thank everyone for their responses and give you an update. I went to my PCP today for my reflux issue and he said he definitely believes it is band related. He said it is not something that just began, but something that has been ongoing and it builds up to get to that level. He said anytime you mess with your anatomy things happen. He wasn't sure if it was because I was too tight, but definitely thought it might have started because of that and then just escalated due to the irritation and that's why I can't get it to go away. He put me on some acid reflux medicine and I will follow up with him in 3 weeks. I also have an appointment with my surgeon in 3 weeks so we will see what happens. Thanks again for your input!! I hope this helps someone else - don't wait to get that heartburn/reflux issue checked out, it can do a lot of damage!!
