  1. Baby, it's going to be ok, I promise. Your body is going though tremendous stress right now and it most definitely affects how you feel emotionally. I am four months out from a band to sleeve conversion and about four to six weeks post op I felt like I descended into a dark pit. I wasn't prepared for that and didn't know what was going on. Looking back I realize how much stress my body, and consequently my soul and spirit, was under. I freaked out one day at work and even tried to quit my job, which is something I DEFINITELY can't do, and that sort of thing is way out of character for me. Fortunately my manager had a cool head and recognized what was going on. I was not well, and you aren't either right now, but you will be, and soon. After about two to two and a half months I turned a corner and felt like myself again. Also, I lost 10 pounds my first week but since then have only lost 16 more, so I'm going at a snail's pace. But I'm going in the right direction. Not everybody is going to drop half their body weight in a few months and that's ok. Let yourself heal and be gentle with yourself. You've been through a lot. This is major surgery and it's not easy. Get up off the bathroom floor, dry your tears, stop weighing yourself and ride it out. You are precious and you are worthy, just like you are.

  2. I have found that I no longer seem to care anything about my morning coffee. I've never been a coffee addict but my two daily cups was my favorite part of my mornings. But now...eh, I can take it or leave it. Just doesn't seem to taste the same. I hope the same holds true for the one true addiction that I DO have--Lifesavers gummies. Omg, those things are of the devil! I go back to work Monday and those things are always around, as we are all addicted to them at my workplace. Haven't had any in weeks(I'm 2 weeks post op today). Gotta stay strong. I swear they put crack in them, too!

  3. Anything valuable to you should be left at home but other than that I really don't know of anything specific. I just would bring the minimum of what you think you will need to be comfy for a night in the hospital. Bring some house shoes with a grippy sole because you'll want to be up walking as soon as you're able so you can get rid of the left over CO2 gas that will be floating around in your innards[emoji1]

  4. We get your health history for the team of doctors and anesthetists who will be putting you to sleep for surgery. When you come in for surgery you actually undergo two procedures: surgery AND anesthesia so we need to make sure there are no hidden factors involved that might make anesthesia unsafe for you. When you come in, a nurse or technician will get your vital signs and then a nurse will get a detailed history (including some questions that make you go...huh?). You will sign your consents and we will do some lab work and testing, including a urine nicotine level, so don't pee before you get called back! You will see the actual anesthetists or anesthesia MD on the day of surgery after we have a chance to review your lab and testing results to make sure all is well, and the vast majority of times it will be. We bariatric patients will already have been through the medical mill before we ever get to surgical assessment. Every facility is a little different but that's how we do it at Flowers.

  5. Maybe I will get to meet you Monday. I'm an RN in the Surgical Assessment Clinic at Flowers. I probably will get to meet everybody on this thread. I had hoped to have my procedure on the 1st as well but I don't know if I can work it out with my job. We are already short handed. I plan to vigorously plead my case! Nurses aren't supposed to be sick or need surgery![emoji6]

  6. I'm a Lap bander trying to get insurance approval for a conversion to the gastric sleeve. I had a slip back in February and have been in a tussle with BCBS ever since. They have until July 24 to say yes or no to my latest appeal, so I hope to be joining y'all in August or early September. **fingers crossed **
