  1. Hello all,
I am curious, I am diabetic and will have my Sleeve surgery on April 25th. I am wondering how the surgery effected those that are diabetic. Were you able to get off of medication/insulin? if so, how long did it take for you to not need any meds?
Hi KC. I was type II diabetic. I was only on medication, no insulin. I left the hospital no longer needing medication. My husband was also diabetic, on insulin and a few different meds. He had the bypass. He was able to also leave the hospital no longer needing insulin or meds.

  2. Hello, I am currently going through the process to get gastric bypass surgery. I had an opportunity to do my psych appointment a month earlier because I put myself on the waiting list. I would have loved to but someone is on vacation and someone is leaving us for another job. So we are short staffed. It is all good though. I met with the nutritionist and shared the steps I am taking to get ready for the surgery and she is on board. I quit drinking soda 3 weeks ago. My surgery is with dr holman. What about you. Anyone from West Michigan
Southwest Michigan here. 22 miles north of Indiana.

  3. I had my surgery on September 23rd 2015. I lost 12 pounds before surgery and only 28 pounds between surgery and my one year surgerversary. So only 50 pounds total. I still have 50 pounds to go. My husband had his rny on October 17th. He has lost 50 pounds since his 2 week pre OP diet. I am finally getting back on the bandwagon. I'm getting at least 60 grams of Protein, keeping carbs under 100 grams, drinking 64 ounces Water and keeping calories between 1000 and 1200 calories. Just started a few weeks ago but already seeing 1-2.5 pounds lost per week. Any other sleevers from September 2015?

  4. OMG! I am from Baroda Michigan! I would love to know the name of your doctor. That is where I am at now - finding a doctor. Any other help and suggestions you may have will be appreciated also! And Gabby, sounds like you and I are in the same place! We can do this - together!

I am from.Stevensville. Dr. Schuhknecht did mine on 9-22-15 in Nile's.

  5. Don't be scared, the more research you do the more comfortable you'll become. Still, this is a personal decision only you can make. I'm also from Michigan (St. Joseph) which is in SW michigan. Where are you from, if you're in the area, I can suggest a doc which has done over 4000 bypass, and 700 lapbands. I was just banded by him.

Hi singledad, I don't know if you're still on this site but I am also from St. Joe. I had my sleeve surgery done by Dr. Schuhknecht on September 22nd, 2015.

  6. Hi, I am new to Bariatric Pals. I live in southwest lower MI, about 3 miles off the Lake Michigan coast.

Hi Mevere, I'm also in SW lower Michigan along Lake Michigan. Where did you have your surgery and who did it? Mine was at Lakeland in Nile's with Dr. Schuhknecht.
