  1. I stalled for about 3 weeks between 2-3 months out. I'm only at 10 weeks right now, but just broke that 3 week stall! Finally! I made sure to get my Protein in first and foremost, which I think really made the difference. I even went back to drinking at least 1-2 protein shakes a day to be sure I got it in! Just embrace the stall. They are upsetting and depressing even, but you will get through it. I felt the same way as you did. I know it isn't the last stall I'll experience either. You just have to take it with the rest.

How Do You Stay Cool Without Ice Cream?

No sugar added Klondike bars! They are the perfect size, and just enough to satisfy! Also SF Popsicles. Some fresh fruit such as watermelon, honeydew. strawberries, blueberries...all when they are in season do wonders as well. Wonderfully sweet, juicy, and satisfying.
  3. Actually VSGAnnie, I'm a late bloomer!!! But, I'm also a hard-head by nature. I'm learning...
  4. Good for you for having that kind of willpower KristenLe!!! I know my willpower can be weak, and I thought a handful of Cheez-its won't hurt right? WRONG! A handful turned into another and another...I killed the whole box over a long weekend! That's not acceptable. My husband doesn't really keep junk food in the house, and if he does it is usually chips and I'm not a big chip eater, so pretty safe there. Crackers of any kind can be a downfall for me, so I have to just stay away from them. I've indulged in a little bit of Pasta a couple of times, but nothing severe since surgery. I now just use zucchini for the noodles. I like them enough and they are a great substitute. You will do very well after surgery with how you are setting yourself up now. Funny thing is I wasn't eating the crackers and pasta prior to surgery. I don't know why I thought I could indulge now. Sometimes you just need that swift kick in the pants to make you realize what you are doing wrong.
  5. I'm really glad that I read through this whole thread. Time to be honest; I've already sabotaged my RNY by eating Cheez-It's and Crackers. I was surprised how many i could eat without feeling sick or getting sick. I've already resolved to the fact that I just cannot even bring that stuff in the house. So, reading through all this proves that you cannot change those bad habits out of your brain with surgery; that has to come from yourself. The surgery limits what you can put in your stomach, but it doesn't stop the type of food you can put in there. Tomorrow I resolve to change my mindset. I didn't do this for nothing. The main reason was my health due to my diabetes. That has gotten so much better, but that doesn't mean I can become non-compliant now. I don't want the horrible high blood sugars to come back, and they certainly will if I continue to eat carbs like crackers and such. Thanks for opening my eyes everyone who has posted on this thread. I think I needed a good swift kick in the a$$ and you all have given it to me.
  6. I feel the same way!!!!! I should have lost at least 100 lbs by now...oh, btw, I'm 9 weeks out!

Weight Loss Surgery for the WIN!

I agree with VSGAnn2014. That was one of the things I prayed would change after surgery. I'm 9 weeks out, and I remember the first night home from surgery I woke up in the middle of the night literally freezing...had to get an extra blanket and everything! Since then I'm not THAT cold anymore, but find that I'm more comfortable in the warmer weather than I was prior to surgery. I used to only keep the heat on in our house in the winter at 62-63 degrees. Anything higher than that and I was sweating profusely (I live in Northeast Ohio, so it does get pretty cold here in the winter). Summertime usually a/c on at 71 degrees whenever we went into the 80's. Yesterday I had the windows open and just the ceiling fans on. Was very comfortable, and I slept with my blanket on!

    Things that make me fart.

But I do eat clean...doesn't mean those natural "veggies" don't cause gas. Some of us are just blessed with insides that are musical!

Weight Loss Surgery for the WIN!

I have found myself to be more comfortable when the weather is in the 80's with mild-moderate humidity. If the humidity level is moderate-high, I still sweat, but not like I did before. My head has always been the worst part that perspires on me; even as a kid. So I wear my hair up in a ponytail, or just pulled back somehow on those days. Right now I have a sleeveless top on at work, and I'm freezing! I think I need to get my sweater. It is supposed to be in the mid-high 80's here in Northeast Ohio today, but we also have rain coming which means humidity. So, we'll see how the house fares with it later today and this evening. I do find myself not setting it as low as I used to. I get chilly now! My husband sits with sweats on and a microfleece jacket because he is always freezing! He lost 85-90 lbs over the past 5 years and has no insulation anymore. He used to be quite the heater! Not anymore. I guess I look forward to being like that once I lose that much weight!

    Days spent in hospital

    I am 53 and diabetic. I stayed 2 nights.

    Feel like this is failing?

I completely get where you are coming from. I am 9 weeks out from surgery and have been in a stall for the past 3 weeks. I've gone back to doing more Protein shakes rather than food because I think I am not getting enough protein. We'll see how it works. Can you get some unflavored Protein powder that you can add to a drink or food to up your protein? At 1 month out I doubt you are getting enough protein from the food you are eating since the amount you can eat is so small. That would be my first thought.

    Things that make me fart.

I've heard that about DS. Why oh why would you choose that option, because I don't think that gets any better. Yikes.
  13. I was told that raw spinach was easier on the system than regular lettuces. I have eaten fresh spinach wilted in food already, and it seemed to do fine. (I don't like canned spinach at all). I am going to try the raw red bell peppers this weekend with hummus. I tried baby carrots and that didn't work too well. I think they sat like a rock in my stomach. All you can do is try and see how you feel. If it doesn't feel good, put it off again for a month or two.

    Things that make me fart.

If I eat anything that is sugar free by means of sucralose, sorbitol, maltitol, or any other sugar alcohol...Watch out! I could power myself to the moon and back! Even the dogs look at me like REALLY? Beans, especially refried, and pretty much any bean doesn't act well on the insides. They cause great pain, but let it loose and makes me feel oh so much better!!! I've always been somewhat of a tooting machine. Sometimes I even amaze myself!
  15. So, I've been stuck in this stall for quite a few weeks now. I keep going up and down with the same 3 lbs. It is really beginning to bother me that I'm not losing right now. The main reason for having WLS was to help me gain control of my blood sugar. Well, that is happening (fortunately), and I am having blood work done this week to check everything since surgery. But, the weight seems to have stopped coming off. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, or if I'm doing anything wrong. How long does a stall necessarily last and what should I do to help get over it? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I feel like a loser; just not the good kind here.
  16. I do concentrate on getting in Protein with every meal. I just think that perhaps I'm not eating the amount of protein that I need. I'm doing as much liquid as I can, but I don't know that I'm hitting at least 64 ounces a day. I know I get my supplements in; I'm very good at taking my Vitamins and supplements, as well as my medication. I guess I will put at least one shake back into the mix and see what happens. I am walking/exercising at least 30 minutes a day, and I plan to start some strength training this week. Thanks for your help. I appreciate all suggestions and comments.
  17. I doubt your system can handle salad yet. I'm 9 weeks out and asked the same question around a couple weeks ago. I tried some raw carrots with hummus. Pouch didn't like the raw veggie too much. I know the hummus was okay because I've eaten it before and it was fine. I'm quite anxious to eat salad again too, but I can wait until I know I can handle it.
  18. I use Align. I actually use the Walmart brand, Equate, that is the same exact product as Align. I suffer from IBS, so it has been a life saver for me. Unfortunately anytime you take an antibiotic, it clears out all bacteria; not just the bad but the good gut flora bacteria. An antibiotic will also clear out your probiotic, so during the time of antibiotic use, I found that a product called Florastor does not get cleared out with the antibiotic. So, if I have an infection and need antibiotic to clear, I use Florastor and it works like a champ.
  19. I'd definitely make an appointment with the doctor and have your stomach checked out. I would stick to using Tylenol rather than Ibuprofen. That is dangerous with a pouch. James is correct too about the probiotic. I take a probiotic daily due to IBS, and trust me it helps immensely.

What Are You Most Proud of?

I am most proud of myself for making healthy decisions to change unhealthy aspects of my life to help live a longer, healthier, happier life. Two years ago I quit smoking, after an almost 40 year habit, last September I made the decision to begin my journey to WLS, and did everything I was told to do. I'm proud that I've lost 38 lbs so far, and hope to reach my goal by the time one year rolls around. I'm proud of all the people who have answered questions and given support here on BP because it truly makes me feel so less alone in this journey. I'm really proud of my whole family for supporting and loving me the way they do. I want to be around to become a grandma one day, and to be able to enjoy those grandkids.

    Food

Premier Protein shakes are low carb as well. 30 Grams of protein per shake, 5 grams carb, 160 calories and 1gram sugar. They are very tasty as well. Stick to low carb. No breads, potatoes, rice, or pastas for the next 3 months. Eat veggies, no fruit (a few berries are okay), and eat moderate to higher protein. This should help to lower your numbers.

    Foods

All foods that are considered low carb can help to lower your A1C. I am a diabetic and had surgery 9 weeks ago tomorrow. For the first two weeks after surgery my numbers were high. They have since gone way down to practically normal (I am still using insulin though, but much much less than I was). Have you had surgery yet? What are your A1C numbers?

    Headaches?

Funny you bring this up; I am 8 weeks post op from RNY and last couple of days getting headaches. Of course the cottonwood is flying where I live, and I know I'm allergic. Eyes are watering and itchy, nose is drippy, a little bit of a cough, and sneezing. So the headache could just be from my allergies, but I have also had some Water rentention as well this past week. I guess I better up the Fluid intake. I was a bit concerned that I might not be meeting my 64 oz minimum lately.

I'm just going to leave this right here.

This has become a very informative thread. OKCPirate, if I wasn't married right now I'd definitely want to meet you!! You sound like my kind of guy *wink wink* I also wanted to add to my story. I'm not into reality TV (not a lot; some I watch here and there). I do love Supernatural (mmm Dean and Sammy Winchester...yum), Once Upon A Time, Dancing with the Stars, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD. I love to read. I'm a HUGE Stephen King Constant Reader, own every single book he has written, and have read each at least twice. I love Horror, books on Real Life Stories, anything to do with The Mob/Mafia. I love classic rock, smooth jazz, some classical. I listen to country against my will (both daughters and husband all like country. It's ok but I prefer rock).
