    Nausea & Vomiting

I'm 3-1/2 months out now and the last few days am having trouble with eating food and my pouch hurting immediately. I can only take a few bites and then I get a horrible pain in my pouch. I can eat some things (such as popsicles, liquids, oatmeal, no sugar added ice cream). But regular food, any food really (whether it is hard or soft, spicy or bland) bothers my stomach. I'm not vomiting and it's not nausea, but at times feel like I could get sick. It settles down, but only after some severe hiccup/burps, or what passes as a belch after surgery. I'm not sure what is going on. Any ideas? Could this be stricture?

    DENIED!

Wooohooo! It's so close too! Good for you. You will be so happy you did this!
  3. Thanks Steph~L~16. I know 46 lbs is nothing to sneeze at, and I'm proud of the weight that I've lost, but I guess I just feel like I'm on the sidelines. My weight loss is creeping now and I hate that. Makes me feel guilty for everything I put in my mouth now. Another friend from BP and I text each other all the time. She had surgery 3/26 (2 weeks before me). She has lost an amazing 70 lbs already! Of course she is younger than me, and I'm still on insulin for my diabetes (much less than I was though), so that makes a big difference right there. And I know I should not compare myself to others; that is always a bad idea. But I just want to be as successful as others. I held off on this surgery for so long because I felt that I would fail. Perhaps I'm just setting myself up in my mind; perhaps something I should talk to the psychologist about at my next visit! Cat.jackson89, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. You are doing wonderful and I'm so very happy (and jealous) of you!!!
  4. I'm reading all the people who have had surgery around when I did (4/11), and all the weight they've lost to date. I've lost 46 lbs to date, and I'm jealous of all those who have lost so much more than me! I feel like, "what are they doing different?" When I see things that say they are drinking Zero Vitamin Water, or Powerade Zero, and nonfat Greek Yogurt as all they are eating/drinking, why does that not seem normal to me? Is that really sustainable? I guess I do my Protein Shakes, nonfat Greek Yogurts, some Proteins such as fish, seafood, chicken, cheese, eggs. But I also have veggies, oatmeal with Protein Powder added in, some fruit (not much at all), and some nuts. I've eaten some healthy Snacks, but because I can eat way too much of them at one time, I am choosing not to keep them in the house anymore. I do need to step my game up where the exercise comes into play. I also had a stall that lasted 3-1/2 weeks, and still the weight is going very slowly down. Anyone else have these problems after 3 months out? I feel so alone. I feel slightly depressed because I feel like I'm failing. I don't want to fail, and I know I have some issues with controlling my eating (nighttime is the worst), but I'm trying to make positive changes. Did I mess this all up, and will things get better? I'm so scared now. I feel deflated.

    Enjoying what I have

Shrimp is the one seafood that sits very well with my pouch and system. I began eating it probably 4 weeks out. I continue to eat that and crab and I'm sure I could do scallops as well. I have a harder time with steak, pork, and sometimes even chicken!
  6. They are located in the Pharmacy section of the store. Not located in the refrigerated section or around the milk. Look by the other protein supplements by Pharmacy.
  7. @doppleganger, it could be that you became lactose intolerant after surgery. This happens to a lot of people after WLS, but it is usually short-lived. Hopefully you can get through that phase and be able to return to the Protein shakes. Try finding ones without the lactose; that may work better for you. Also, if your NUT had no reason as to why the Premier Protein Shakes are graded a "D", ask for the research and reports behind that statement. Could be your NUT just doesn't care for them. To each his own where taste is a matter. I love the Premier Protein drinks. I just got the banana one at Walmart to try, and I love it! I didn't get the caramel because I'm not a big fan of caramel anyway and find it to be too sweet. Good Luck.
  8. No sorry, I've been living with diarrhea every day for the last 6 yrs due to having my gallbladder removed, so if it did I never noticed. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using the BariatricPal App Do you take bile salts? It may help because without the gallbladder, you are not processing fat in your diet. The fat could be causing the diarrhea. Maybe research it and try it? Just a thought.
  9. What tip about what coupons? I could use coupons! Please?
  10. I began taking my SSRI at bedtime because after the usual side-effects subsided, the only one that remained was the pill made me tired for at least 1-1/2 hours and unproductive. So I began taking it at bedtime, and now I just fall asleep faster. Perhaps try it. If you would like to go the non-prescription way, try using GABA or St. John's Wart, or even SAMe. I'd research those and see if it would be an option for you.

    Struggling

No, it is not too soon. Try the yogurt first since it is very soft and easy to swallow and digest. Just take a very little spoonful at a time. You might be able to eat half the container. But, you might also only be able to do a couple spoonfuls. That's okay. Things are not going to taste good so soon after surgery. Just do your best to get the fluids in and your Protein. Just get as close as you can. Don't force yourself to eat or drink if you just can't. But, make sure you do whatever you can. I'm a little curious as to why some surgeons don't have people follow a pre-op diet. Makes no sense not too. Good Luck.
  12. This is by far not the "easy" way out! Wow. People who don't realize what we put ourselves through to be healthier have no clue.

    Let's talk about Reactive Hypoglycemia

If you don't have a glucometer (a meter to measure your blood sugar), you can get one pretty cheap at Walmart called Relion. The test strips are only $9 for 50 of them.
  14. Just so you know, being dehydrated can cause dizziness. I found that out the hard way in the beginning when it was really difficult to get those fluids in. Hang in there. Things will get better. Sounds like you are doing everything right.
  15. I feel the same as you do. When I went for my one month post surgery appointment, the surgeon told me I had lost slightly more at that point than the norm. He felt that I would definitely hit my goal by one year. However, since then, my weight loss has really slowed down. I am almost 3 months out now, and I've lost 40 lbs. I went through a stall that lasted almost a month! But, I've been dribbling down a pound here and a pound there. I know I've eaten a few things I probably shouldn't have (like crackers), but not too much. Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing something right, but I don't know what it could be. I look for Protein in everything I put in my mouth, and I still use shakes/drinks. All the veterans say that you have to embrace the "stalls" and they will end. As long as I continue to lose, I will hang in there. I don't know what else to do. Are you exercising? Taking your supplements/vitamins? Get that 64 oz Water in a day (at least) and your protein. I think all of that is the most important.

    Blood Sugar too Low

First, a 70 in the morning isn't really "too low". When it drops into the 60's, then it is considered a hypo. Are you on medications or insulin for diabetes? If so, you may need to talk to your Endo regarding cutting back on meds. I am still on insulin, but I only use it for basal now, and I've lowered my amounts once already. I've woken up with some blood sugars in the 70's, but until it is consistent, I won't lower again yet. Surgery does help blood sugars to fall in place for diabetics. That is why the bypass surgery is highly recommended to Type 2 diabetics. I would just keep your eye on your blood sugars right now. If you see it going too low, make sure you have something to raise it quickly. Glucose tabs should not cause dumping. I'd also have some gel, or Fluid glucose on hand.

    Miss Real Food! [emoji23]

pureed stage, try mashed up avocado; you can use it mixed with tuna or chicken breast (canned), or mix with mashed up hard boiled eggs. Delicious!
  18. Thank you for this article. Since I had surgery to improve my health and give me a chance at a longer healthier life, I appreciate those words from someone who lost a huge amount of weight and was worried at that time only of the weight. Since surgery, the weight I've lost is gratifying to say the least, and of course now I want more. But, with that said, I must never lose sight of the real reason I had surgery; and that was to improve my health and hopefully get rid of the issues I have/had, and live a longer life.
  19. I've been taking supplements for so long, I just do it both morning before work, and evening, after dinner. I also take 2 meds right before bed. I do have an AM/PM pill container that I separate all my supplements and pills into. The PM side contains nothing but supplements. The 2 meds I take at bedtime I do in my upstairs bathroom right before getting into bed. Pill dividers work great. You can get little ones for travel that you only need to put one or two pills in, or medium sized, or large size, or X-large size. They also have containers where the individual day container can be popped out and taken with you in your purse, or if travelling in your carry on. I like the idea of a timer or alarm on your cell phone to remind you to take your pills. I don't need it because it's literally a habit now. Good Luck!!!

That is how my plan was too.

    No More CPAP?

I'm almost 3 months out, down 40 lbs, and still use my CPAP, however, I read in these posts that someone kept waking up with an extremely dry mouth. That has been happening to me as well. I guess I should talk to my doctor about another sleep study? I might not need the machine anymore. That would be great for when my husband and I travel I won't need to worry about bringing the CPAP!

    What are yall eating

I've eaten sashimi already, and I'm 11 weeks out. I think I had it probably around 4-5 weeks out. I love sashimi, and as long as I took small bites and really chewed it up, it was fine. I haven't done sushi because of the rice. I've been told rice really fills you up quickly and doesn't have Protein, so to stay away from it.
  23. I would never spend $129 on a scale! I don't need a scale that can tell me all those masses; I just want to know what I weigh.

    Crystal Light Post OP?

I'm drinking a crystal light iced tea with lemon right now! Easier to get fluids in this way rather than just Water. Never been a huge water drinker; unless it's really hot and I'm sweating, but even then it has to be really cold.
  25. curlysue86, I had headaches in the beginning after surgery as well. Your body is adjusting with hormones and everything else. They will get better. Do you live in a region where allergies are a problem? Could be that as well. Vitamins, in the beginning, should be chewable, but I was instructed not to use gummies because it can get stuck and block the new opening from the stomach. I don't know if this applies to sleeved peeps as well (I had RNY). I use a chewable multi-Vitamin, a sublingual B12 pill, and at the time chewable Calcium citrate. I did have a capsule for my Iron. I also take Biotin (small pearl like pill), B-Complex with Vit. C (small pill), Vitamins A, C, and D3 (all little gel like pill), and my blood pressure and anti-depressant. Of course I took these pills according to directions I received, so throughout the day and evening. I also take Metformin for diabetes. Those pills are kind of big so I was breaking them in half and over an hour time frame taking each piece. I now can swallow the full pill without feeling like it will come back up. Word of advice regarding any type of pain pills. With RNY we are not allowed to ever take Ibuprofen because it is harsh on the stomach. So Tylenol it is. I used some Children's liquid tylenol in the very beginning, and I learned my lesson. WAY too much sugar and it caused me to dump. I never made that mistake again! So be cautious with anything liquid. Check the sugar content. Glad you are feeling better.
