  1. Last night was upper body. I switched from circuit training to supersets. Last night was "light" weights with 15 reps per exercise per superset. In all, I did 12 supersets. I added in something new last night. After each SS, I did 10 pushups touching my chest to the ground each time. At least, after the first 10 SS. The last two, I could only get 7 & 8 pushups respectively.

Followed that with 25 minutes on elliptical.

This morning was 2 miles @ 1% incline in 20 minutes. 10 minute cooldown followed by 23 minutes on elliptical.

Later, I'll try to get in some more cardio. Tonight will be legs and maybe a little more cardio.

  2. No legs/cardio last night, lazy:frown:.

This morning, 3.1 miles @ 1% incline in 30 minutes. Followed with 10 minutes of walking and 15 minutes on elliptical.

Tonight, I will try again to get legs in. We'll see.:cursing:

As you can see in my auto sig, I am 1 wk ahead of my goal of 10 miles/wk. Knees are holding up GREAT!

  3. Last night, leg workout. No cardio as I had to get home to type up my final paper for the class that ended last night.

This morning, 2 miles on treadmill in 16:36 with incline ranging btwn 0-1% about every .15-.25 miles. 5 minute cooldown and then on to the elliptical for 25 minutes including another 5 min. cooldown.

Back at it later today for about another 35 minutes.

  4. Yesterday, nice slow 6 mph for 1/2 hr. 3 miles.

This morning, 2 mile run in 17:10 with incline ranging from .5% to 2 %. Thought that was pretty good until I saw Jachut's. I know I said to never compare yourself to others, but DAMN woman.:w00t: Followed that with another .25 miles in 2:30 and 10 minute cooldown. Then, 20 minutes on elliptical.

Tonight will be upper body super sets and a little more cardio.

  5. Hi all,

have you all thought about those of us who have not or could not excerise due to our obestiy and health issues. those of us who knees, feet and legs can't handle the excerise that most of you do. I know it will get better once the weight starts to come off; but how much and how long before you can run 10k or bike 20miles w/o incident. So what besides walking and some lite areobics do us beginners do? we too need support.

Good luck to all that are doing well with their excerise program

    Kim

Not to offend too much, but are you kidding me? Everyone here had weight issues prior to our surgeries. Thus, we had the surgeries. We didn't start off at the pace we are at now, we worked our way up to it.

I have been diagnosed with arthritis in both knees and have been told I will need replacement surgery. This was 3 yrs ago at the age of 35. The surgeon wanted me to get another 20 yrs out of the original parts before he really wanted to consider doing that though.

So, after the lap band surgery, I started off walking on the treadmill slowly and for only about 20 minutes or so. My knees would KILL me. Now, I can run for an hour and cover 6 miles on the treadmill w/o my knees hurting that much.

We are not on here trying to brag about how "great" we are. The question was asked how often do we exercise. We answered.

    Sorry if I offended.

  6. Thanks for the kind words everyone. TQUAD, I wouldn't be too rough on your son. When I was a teen, I wouldn't haven't been too keen on the idea of hanging around my mom if she had done this then. I'm 38 now and can appreciate the fact she was there for all my injuries/surgeries.

Plus, the fact that I have been through so many injuries, I was able to tell let her know what she was going through for pain and how to deal with it was normal. Seemed to make a difference.

Of course, I'm paying for it now trying to get caught up at work.

Off to the gym again for some self torture.

  7. Been off the board for a week now. My mom broke her leg down in IA and I went down from Saturday until Wed to help her out as she has never broken a bone in her body and I have.

    So, to update:

Friday: Hit the chiropractor before I found out about my mom. Not able to work out.

Saturday and Sunday: In IA helping out mom. Forgot running shoes so had to buy some new ones on Sunday.

Monday: Hit the Golds Gym in W. Des Moines in the am for upper body and cardio. Ran 2 miles/18:17 minutes after the workout and 35 minutes on elliptical. Went back in the pm to do another 2 miles/20 minutes and 35 minutes on elliptical.

Tuesday: Went in the pm for leg workout and cardio. 2.5 mile/25 minute run followed by 35 minutes on elliptical.

    Wed: nothing, drove back home.

Thurs: am-legs really sore due to not lifting w/legs for about 2 wks. Managed 35 minutes on ellilptical and 1.25 mile/12 minute run on treadmill. Then, SWAT training during the day, no lifting.

Today: 4.25 mile/41:30 minute run followed by 15 minutes on elliptical. Into the gym tonight for upper body.

  8. I know that reading other posts should inspire me, but sadly it seems to have the reverse effect. I read a Ceredad or Jachut post and (figuratively) just throw up my hands and say 'WTH, why bother, you gotta go full out like those two to make a difference, and you KNOW that's just not YOU". Pity party for one right here.

My activities pale (are almost opague) by comparison...yesterday was fill day so the only exercise was walking briskly the 35 min from the train station to the clinic.

Today - shoulder workout with weights, and then 30 min on the treadmill. Compared to Tuesdays time, I shaved 2 minutes off the time for the same distance.

Tap-never, EVER, compare yourself to someone else. Use them for inspiration, yes. But don't compare to them. You have to remember, I am a police officer on a SWAT team. My job demands I be in better shape than most. Plus, I am looking at a change in my life (can't go into it right now) that I am using as my inspiration.

Just keep at it. You'll get there.

  9. i'm jealous.

was at the gym today, and saw everyone pushing hard... i just walked REAL SLOW for 40mins. my dr doesn't even want that much, as on top of the hernia it was discovered i had a small infection by the port site. so i'm just creeping along hoping not to get out of the swing of being in the gym.

    i can easily be distracted:blushing:

You gotta take it slow and easy or you will make yourself worse. Make it worse and you definately will be backsliding.

Today a.m.-ran on treadmill for 16.5 minute/1.65 miles alternating incline btwn .5 and 2%. Followed with cooldown and then on to the elliptical for 35 minutes.

Tonight will be upper body. Thinking of switching it up and doing supersets for awhile.

  10. Back @ it again on the treadmill. Added 20 minute/2 mile run with 5 minute cooldown.

Did the same thing as Mondays second run. Before the run, I dropped and did 25 pushups. Then, paused the machine every 1/2 mile to do pushups. After half mile, did another 25. Every half mile after that was 20 pushups including at the end.

  11. Makes you wonder if the producers of the show "influence" the votes. Joelle is the one everyone loves to hate and she puts out a lot of drama whereas the engaged couple were nice and sweet, but not much drama. The show is about ratings after all.

Do you support those that need it or those that earned it? Keeping someone there because they need it and making someone who earned it leave doesn't seem very fair to me.

Was wondering the same thing last night. I can see where Jillians team would want to keep Joelle around to create chaos amongst Bob's team.

All I know is, so much for no drama this season. Bob's team is going to be out for blood. They are going to feel betrayed by Jillians team after they asked Bobs team who they wanted voted out.

  12. Yesterday-nothing. Guys weekend and 16 hours on Monday finally caught up to me.

AM today-2.25 mile run in 20 minutes. Tried pushing myself for a 2 mile run and made it in 17:43. Did 30 minutes on elliptical afterwards w/5 minute cooldown.

I'll try to get another 2-2.5 miles in later today.

  13. I'm sorry for the poorly thought out comments you are getting. I can honestly say I have heard very little from friends and coworkers (I told everyone I was having the surgery). Of course, they all know how much hard work I have put in at the gym, because I tell them about that as well.

The only poor comments I hear really are said about one of my officers that had the lapband about 2 1/2 yrs before me. He has lost nowhere near the amount of weight I have. I refuse to bad mouth him and his journey, we are all different. The only thing I ever say is that he does not appear to put in any time in the gym. Also, I hear about his poor eating habits. People seem to think it is a competition btwn us. I do not. I only deal with myself and how I am doing.

Sidenote: I will confess when he got his lapband, I was one that said he was taking the easy way out. I had never heard of the lapband and knew nothing about it. I made an assumption. That may be why I choose to educate everyone I know.

  14. Ok, I just added another 3.1 mile run in less than 30 minutes followed by minute cooldown. Difference this time was I paused the treadmill every 1/2 mile to drop to the floor and do 20 pushups. Nothing earth shattering, but it made it different. Thought I would have to drop the number of pushups each time I paused, but never happened. Next time I try this I'll try for 25 pushups.:scared2:

  15. Pattygreen is on the prostitution thread. She preaches up one side and down the other. I am a Christian. I am proud of it. Am I perfect? NO. Do I screw up? YES. Do I force my beliefs on others? NO> (I try not to any way.) Being a Christian means I am forgiven...not perfect. And here I go screwing up by talking and gossiping...But Pattygreen is over the top.

Same take as mine g4e. It annoys me when people go off "holier than thou" on the world. I am not perfect, and will not tell others how to live their lives. Except for DD.:)

  16. pattygreen is very sanctimonious. clearly you all never suffered through a political thread on here!!!

I learned a long time ago to try not getting sucked in on political threads. Not just here, on any message board. Too many think they are the only right one and noone else has a clue. I prefer to try to get along with everyone and not to preach to others about what I believe to be true too much.

As the old saying goes: you can get more with honey than you can with vinegar.:)
