  1. Last night was heavy upper body supersets and they KILLED. I went to bed last night and my arms were already getting sore. It's good to get that once in awhile.

This morning, up and in the fitness ctr at work for cardio again. Ran 2.15 miles @ 1% incline in 19:47. Followed that with 10 minute cooldown and 20 minutes on elliptical. Gonna try for another 35 minutes elliptical today. Tonight will be leg supersets.

  2. working from home this AM....got "Busy" time here while it's actually up & running for a change & to keep me entertained while on a con call....

    got snow?

Unfortunately, yes. Got 8" of snow last Thursday. Supposed to be in the 40's by Wed. Gotta love MN weather.

I'm supposed to be working on the day shift schedule. Had a headache from the time I entered the dept this morning.:hurray:

  3. Haven't seen this yet for March, so here goes. Same rules as always, not so much a challenge as a way to keep us all motivated.

I took this weekend off. Needed it badly apparently.

This morning I ran 2 miles @ .5% incline in 16:47. Ran another 1/2 mile @.5% incline in 4:47. Followed that with 10 minute cooldown and 20 minutes on elliptical.

Tonight will be heavy upper body supersets. Maybe some more cardio, hopefully.

  4. Last night was upper body supersets. 8 exercises/12 supersets/10 reps each/13 pushups btwn each superset.

No cardio last night as we got 7" of snow btwn noon and 7 pm yesterday. Took me too long to get to the gym and then had to go home and snowblow the drive.

This morning I went for distance on the treadmill instead of time. Just did a nice jog of 40 minutes and 4.0 miles. Followed that with 10 minute cooldown.

Tonight, hopefully, will be leg supersets. If not tonight, tomorrow during the day.

  5. i go at a time when there are 2 types of SAMS, say right after they drop the kids off at school.

there is the hardcore women who have their ipod on - go about their business. then the others who have a full face of makeup on / perfume on & their hair perfectly coiffed & socialize. i'm not a girly girl to begin with & the smell of perfume while working out makes me gag....so i steer clear of that group on the machines w/my ball cap & ipod on going about my business.

lot of cops around this time as well:wink: you get to be friendly seeing the same faces each day:)

spudmama - each of us started in the gym not feeling so hot about how we look. i found putting my ipod on kept me in my own world not worrying about what others thought. good luck to you!

To me, the ones that are enveloped in a haze of perfume are just as bad as the smoker that gets one last one in and then steps up on the treadmill/elliptical next to me. Can't breath.

Personally, I prefer the ball cap and ponytail on women in the gym. Not that I stare, don't like to be that guy, but I notice.:)

And, it's always good to make nicey nice with the cops. Start the flirting early. Then, when you inevitably get pulled over, you stand a better chance of getting a "warning".

  6. OMG!! I am going in two hours to go for my first "Therapist supervised" gym session. And I was scared before of the 'skinny' people, now I have to be worried about the unsympathetic, once-over-weight people being SNOBS. JUST GREAT!!! Good thing I have to do my supervised thing at the cardio rehab where it's mostly old people. I'm thinkin' you people wont see me in the gym for a LONG time! Thanks for the encouragement!! LOL:wink2:

(Hey, atleast you can admit your a snob, that's half the battle!)

I'm off to reluctantly go the the gym!

Well, I did say to go ahead and flame me. So, I guess you followed that to a T.

However, as long as you don't just sit on a machine and not let others work in with you, you don't have to worry. Or, sit and socialize, or talk on your cell phone the entire time, or basically don't do anything except take up space needlessly, don't concern yourself with it.

Also, I never said one thing about people who are out of shape/fat. I don't care if you are a bodybuilder. Don't monopolize the machines and ruin other peoples momentum.

I go at 5am the people in there are hard core and they motivate me..but I'm with yall don't sit on a machine for 10 mins it bugs me to no end.

Yeah, I'm at the gym or fitness ctr at work every morning @ 0500 for cardio. Back in after work for lifting. It makes a difference. You get to know the people that are dedicated and there every day. It helps.

  7. i can see what your saying & how ya feel. i've had no problem tapping someone on the shoulder who was just standing on the treadmill talking on their cell phone, to either use the machine or excuse themself to chatt....

Yeah, it isn't socializing time. If you want to, fine, just let someone else use the machine.

I hate it when I want to do something and someone else is on the machine. But they paid their membership to the gym too. So what are you going to do?

As long as they are using it, and willing to allow others to work in while they are resting, fine. It is the ones that do one set, sit on it for about 10 minutes, then do another set that bugs me the most.

  8. I confess, I am a gym snob. Those that know me on here know this about me. I get easily irritated by people in the gym.

I'm not saying that others do not deserve to workout and better themselves. By no means am I that big of an asshole......ok, maybe I am:wink:.

However, it is people that use the equipment improperly, or do one set every 10 minutes while they socialize. Or, worse yet, they take down the weights others have been using without checking to make sure someone is not just getting a drink or are doing a superset.

I have always lifted weights, that was never my problem. My problem was I thought that was enough. I hated cardio, HATED IT!!!!!!! So, it is not like I am new to these feelings or come to them just recently. I've always had them at the gym.

I will admit alot of the problem comes from within myself. When I am lifting, my blood gets pumping, and if someone hops on a machine I am about to use, I get irate. I'll never get over it, just something that will always happen I guess. I will just have to keep telling myself I am not Arnold or anything and I have no right to judge others in the gym.

Ok, rant over. Feel free to flame me for being arrogant. I deserve it.:w00t:

  9. Last night was upper body superset using medium weights for 10 reps each and 3 sets each. Totaled 12 supersets. Did 12 pushups btwn each superset as well. Ended up not having the energy for cardio afterwards.

This morning was 1.5 miles/1% incline/12:57. Followed that with 10 minute cooldown and 25 minutes on elliptical. Going to try to get in another 30 minutes on elliptical today. Tonight will be leg supersets.

  10. Just saying...don't forget the US Coast Guard...they are military too and are also serving overseas!

From a proud Coastie wife :)

Can't forget those brave men and women. They do a great job of protecting our waterways and coastlines. Gotta love all the military.:w00t:

It is happening all over again, what you see in the "civilian" media is the tip of the iceberg, anyone who cares please look into The Army Times or Navy Times, etc. online or by subscription. These stories are the norm but nobody seems to hear about it.

  11. Me thinks a mist of oleoresin capsicum would clear the treadmill.... :hurray:

    Brad

That would definately do the job.:hurray:

Sat-had a class, so took the day off. Meant the first week of not getting to 10 miles of running in a week.:hurray: Oh well, I'm still above the average per week.

Sun-Ran 5k in just under 30 minutes on the treadmill. Not pushing it too hard, just a light jog. Followed up with 5 min. cooldown and 15 minutes on elliptical.

Mon. a.m.-2.5 miles in 22:15 @ .5-1% incline. 10 minute cooldown and 15 minutes on elliptical. Tonight will be medium weight supersets for upper body and a little more cardio.

Can't do too much as it is DD's parent/teacher conferences tonight.

  12. The nerve of that woman. I say take her out at the knee caps next time you see at the gym.

Trust me, I wanted to.:tt2: Beat her to the good treadmill today.

Last night was upper body supersets with 11 pushups btwn each superset. Really noticing the difference these give me.

This morning was 3 miles/0 incline/29:05. Followed that with 10 min. cooldown and 15 minutes on elliptical.

  13. Mornin' Warriors!

Question for y'all that work out on the regular - went for my second fill yesterday and the PA / nurse who took my vitals asked me how I was doing exercise-wise (because I gained two pounds ) and I told her I was walking daily, trying to up the intensity by going faster over the same distance, and started rowing.

She responded with the "old" wisdom that the first 20 minutes of aerobics is burning sugar and only after that do you burn fat. She then recommended that I increase my time to at least 40 minutes and longer if I can handle it.

I simply don't have the time for that - I walk in the mornings with the dog and don't have an extra half-hour to do a longer walk. I walk at lunchtime and don't have an additional half-hour to do it. I had to give up my gym membership for economic reasons, but when I was there I did do a minimum of 30 min on the elliptical or the treadmill.

So what are your thoughts on duration vs intensity? I can definately make the 30 min threshold on a regular basis, but any more than that (with my commute back and forth taking major time out of my day as well) I just can't seem to manage.

    Thoughts?

I'm by no means an expert, but I would have to say anything is better than nothing. If you can only manage 30 minutes at a time max, then do it. Everyone is an expert in their minds. Do what works best for you.

    My $.02 worth.

  14. Not really surprised by that blog. I've always assumed that alot of the contestants do not keep off the weight. It's just unrealistic to do what they do on the show and have it keep up.

However, I also assumed the show at least showed them at least initially how to prepare the food right. That is just wrong. Also, by allowing the "cheating" they allow pre weigh ins, that is very dangerous.

I do watch the show most of the time, but it is more to get pumped the right way. I don't try to compare myself to their weight loss, just the opposite. I make sure I am doing things the proper way.

  15. still trying to multitask & fit exercise in between school and now work (pt)....i see many 4am wake up calls in my future:frown:

Welcome to my world. I get up at 0400 every day just to get my cardio in before work.

Yesterday, I had a touch of the flu. Took day off from work and from working out. Managed to get in 250 pushups throughout the day, but even that was tough.

This morning, got up and into the fitness center here at work. Got in 45 minutes on the elliptical. Then, ran 1 mile @ .5% incline in 7:57, followed by 3 minute cooldown.

Rant warning-we have 3 treadmills in the fitness ctr here at work, 2 good ones that people can run on and 1 bad one that only very small people can run on but everyone can walk on. So, this morning, my fellow sgt. hops on one of the good treadmills and starts running. Other one is being used by an old lady that had been running when we got there. So, I hopped on the elliptical as she looked like she was almost done. Just as I was about to hop off the elliptical when she got off the treadmill, another lady hops on the good treadmill and proceeds to walk at a very slow pace for 30 minutes.

Now, I will give her credit for getting out of bed and making it in. However, these people know that we go in there and run every morning. If you are only going to walk, get on the old treadmill and let someone run on the good one. She saw I was getting off the elliptical and knows I was about to hop on. Just annoys the shit out of me.

    Ok, rant over.

  16. Back from a long weekend off. No exercise from Friday through Sunday for my "guys" weekend.

Yesterday, got back in the flow of it with 45 minutes of upper body supersets with pushups in btwn. Followed that up with 25 minutes on elliptical/25 minutes on treadmill/25 minutes on elliptical.

This morning, I did 2.25 miles on the treadmill followed by 10 min. cooldown. Then, 20 minutes on elliptical.

Later will be more cardio and leg workout.

Needed the time off, but it's good to be back in the flow.

  17. No treadmill today, my lower back has been letting me know that 2-3 wks straight of running is not what it wants. So, did 45 minutes on elliptical, pausing every 10 minutes to pump out 25 pushups. Btwn that and some before and after, I'm to 225 pushups already today.

Tonight will be upper body and a little more cardio.

Nothing this weekend as it is my 2nd "guys" weekend. Gotta take some time off:tt2:

  18. froggy, don't worry about running the whole way. The important thing is that you are doing it. I signed up for my first one last April just because my brother in law was doing it. I made it almost the whole way running.

As for th C25k program, I never did that. I simply hopped on the treadmill and tried to push myself just a little further each time I was on it. For me, that works best.

  19. Just wrapped up another session of cardio. Did what I believe are called "ladders" on the treadmill. Not sure if I had it right or that is what I did is actually called, but here is what I did:

    Min. 1: 6 mph/1% incl

    Min. 2: 7 mph/1% incl

    Min. 3: 6 mph/1 % incl

    Min. 4: 8 mph/1%

    Min. 5: 6 mph/1%

    Min. 6: 9 mph/1%

    Min. 7: 6 mph/1%

Min. 8: 10 mph/1%-this one KILLED me. I barely made the 1 minute sprint.

    Min. 9: 6 mph/0 incl

    Min. 10: 7 mph/1% incl

Jogged at 6 mph for :49 to get to 1.25 miles. Then, 10 minute cooldown. Followed that with 20 minutes on elliptical.

    Still got legs tonight.
